What did you think of Bush's speech?

Original post by marymoon

I totally don't agree with him on a lot of issues and I think he spouted a lot of what in my eyes is BS, but I think he gave a really compelling speech and I think he won over a lot of swing voters. He seemed very decisive. When he said 'you know where I stand' that was such a powerful statement. It was the kind of speech I wish John Kerry would finally stand up and give. If he doens't, he's losing a lot of undecided voters to Bush.

i actually have to disagree here -- the city has put alot of money into making Times Square more family friendly. Yes, you can geta hooker in NYC, but most of them stay away from TS for fear of being arrested

first off..........bush has nothing to do with the crime rate over the past 10 years....thats the mayor.....

as for times square........um mayor and police chief

and yes problems can happen anywere ny, la, even up here in maine.but come on.......the us is not any safer then it ever was....if it was then the president could say it will never happen again..you say columbine or oaklohoma but thoses were done by our own people......i am taling about people from other places.....as for the orange level..the mayor does not have control over what TOM RICH says the level sould be......

i am not trying to be a a$$ or start a fight, but come on YOU really feel safe like nothing WILL EVER HAPPEN again......i dont think so.......as a new yoker who works in the city.........do you remember the SMELL, and SMOKE....i for one dont EVER EVER want to loose anymore , friends, family or people i dont even know, for something that i dont think we have any control over.....it's sad but i guess thats just life.......

First off... its Tom RIDGE. He is the Director of Homeland Security. He is in charge of the NATIONAL security and the NATIONAL level. He also gets all the intelligence reports... and if he gets something for a specific locale... that information gets forwarded to that locale's government. Its still up to the Mayor of the locale after getting Ridge's information to decide whether or not to change the LOCAL terror level. If you don't believe me... your welcome to look it up and show me a link to PROVE ME WRONG. The NYC terror level has been at orange since 9/11 while the national level has fluctuated from yellow and orange and occasionally red (when NYC also went red recently in regards to the citicorp building).

Frankly I couldn't give a **** if the terror attacks were done by al-qeida, saddam, or our own people. In the end its a tradegy no matter who starts it... and in the two examples I showed... it can happen anywhere.

Just because you couldn't take it anymore in NY and got out and moved... don't think all New Yorkers are the same. Yeah I never want to see something like that happen again.

But on the other hand, I have confident in our government that a tradegy like that is NEVER going to happen again. I refuse to live in fear every day thinking something *may* happen.

Well duh... who wouldn't?

But ask the hundreds of girls on this site why they aren't doing the same thing? Its called living in a place where you can actually DO stuff... go out... etc.

Not for nothing... maybe I am out of the loop... but what is there to do up in Maine besides taking turns on the......... well i'll shad up now.

Its just the style of living that you want. I'll take living in NYC... on my NYC salary every time.

Re: What did you think of Bush's speech?

The only reason I am staying in NY is because my parents are here. If I plan to start a family I wouldn't want my Children to be away from their grandparents and Vice Versa. And by the way On Long Island their aint that much to do. And it's expensive to goto the city. So its not all that great either. And even if u live in Iowa you can find something to do. I went to visit my brother in Colorado would move there tomorrow..... Also happen to love Maine. I have always wanted to live in the country.

Have you ever been to Maine?

Do you really think people just sit around and watch the Stars (which is what I do when I am in any other state beside California)

I have never been to Maine. Thats why I asked whats there to do.

But regardless... I really don't care if there is plenty there to do or not. I don't plan on going there anytime soon.

Its called different strokes for different folks... and if you are happy where you are (be it Maine, NYC, whatever)... thats all that matters in the end.

So if u have never been there then how can you say people live here cause you can do things? You can do the same things in maine that you can do here.
