What do you call your FMIL?

My FMIL, is one of the greaatest ladies you'd ever meet. Her and I get a long...we're like two peas in a pod.

All of her other DIL's and SIL's, call her mom. I feel weird calling her mom even though when she signs cards to me she's singed them 'Love, Mom K' and when the FH and I give her cards we address them as 'Dear mom'.

That being said I feel weird calling her and saying 'Hi Lil, how are you?' But I also feel weird calling her mom. I'm 32, my mom is alive and I've only ever called her mom.

Am I being weird? What do I call her?

j/k, no - i call her by her name-- no mom and dad stuff, but we sign stuff like cards from fh and i 'mom

My parents always referred to each other's parents as mom and dad.

Fh's parents always referred to each other's parents by their first names.

My SIL calls my parents mom and dad, which I love.

FH's mom asked me to call her Diane and his dad to call him George. I previously called them Mr. or Mrs., but more often than not, I just spoke directly to them without using a name. It was a nice gesture, but it actually makes me kind of sad to know that I'll never get to call them mom and dad.

I would love for FH to call my parents mom and dad, but I don't think he will. He refers to them as Mama Chris and Papa John (which is how most of my friends refer to the them). That was a recent transition from calling them Mr. and Mrs.

It all depends on what you are comfortable with and what they are comfortable with.

I've been calling FMIL mom since FH and I have been dating. She insisted that I call her mom. But everyone calls her mom, including our friends.

I'd been calling FMIL Mrs. (last name) up until this weekend when I pulled out Ma. My soon to be last name has too many S's so when you put the Mrs. infront it becomes a tongue twister lol.

I used to feel weird but I usually call my mom by her first name (strange I know) or Mumsy lol so it wasn't so bad

I call FMIL 'Mom' to her face, but when I refer to her in conversation I call her by her first name. If both my mom and her are together, I call her nothing to avoid the confusion.

I call his parents Mr. and Mrs.... (last name). They are always yelling at me for it but I just don't feel comfortable calling them by their first name. I know they would be happy if I called them mom and dad. Obviously after the wedding, I will stop calling them Mr and Mrs but I just dont know if I can call them mom and dad- only because my dad is deceased and it would be weird for me to call someone else dad. But I know that if he was here- I wouldnt feel so strongly about that. I know my mom wouldnt mind if I called her mom and she would prefer if FH called her mom. But I'd have a hard time if FH called my step dad -dad, considering the situation.

so for now i call her by her first name ...i am going to try and change after the wedding

I call her by her first name. But I call (and have for years) FFIL 'pop'. Both FH and I are not close with FMIL

I call FFIL Pop too! Only because I call my dad, Dad. So I dont feel weird about it. Pop is almost like a name. haha. I cant bring myself to call FMIL mom though. I feel too uncomfortable. Plus I dont get along with her all the time. She told me to call her mom once, while my mom was over there for the first time. So weird.

Thank you ladies for making me feel like I'm not a spaz for not calling my FMIL 'mom.' I really do feel like I have my mother and she is the only one I feel comfortable calling her 'mom.' I guess in the FH's family I'll be the only DIL not to call her mom which is ok
