What do you think????

Original post by StarryEyedBride

I found some invitations I LOVE!!

BUT- They are $2k (for 150 invites)

Am I crazy to even contemplate this...?? I haven't seen a single invitation that I thought totally fit me and our wedding 'theme' if you will... and then I saw these ...

Check 'em out!

What do you think!? I have no idea what's average price...

These are NOT in my budget- Fh and I didn't really have a budget on this.... we would really have to pull something together and its really just me that wants them... FH thinks Im crazy to spend this much!

They are beautiful....and I've seen similar products for much cheaper. You can probably add the crystal circle yourself. I would shop around to see if there are other vendors that have a similar style for much less....

I would never pay that much money for invitations. Whether I had the money for it or not. If you do have the money and will not settle for anything else - go for it. I am sure though you could use this money towards something people will actually remember at your wedding. JMO.

I'm in your boat! I was going to spend that much and I decided that I'm not going to go over 1000. It is a lot of money for something that goes in the garbage. People are not even going to remember your invitation. I also need 150. Try to shop around a little more-I know it is hard, but that is what I'm doing!
And-I don't think there is an average price for invites, people could spend anywhere from 300-5000. IT also depends on the amount of them you need. Good luck!

I found TONS i loved that were ridiculous. Then I thought..why the heck am I even willing to pay more than a couple hundred on something that ppl throw away. JMO!!! Thankfully for me, I waited til I found something both reasonable and cute. Of course I could have indulged on one of those amazing invites I came across but for what, really?

Those are beautiful invitations. I to could not find ANY invitations I liked for less than $1500 for 150 invites. In the meantime, I heard about Rebecca from Wedding Invitation Design through AMJA on this site and Rebecca is totally duplicated the invites for me for MUCH less.

Please contact her and see if it is possible for her to duplicate these for you. She does amazing and beautiful work.

Re: What do you think????

ok, so I'm not going to masquerade as a thrifty invitation shopper... I spent $700 on 50 invitations... Here are my questions:

how are they printed? are they lithography or letterpress, or only thermography? (thermography is a much less labor-intensive process, and shouldn't cost that much...)

how many invitations have you seen in person? are you certain these are the ones you love? I'd get a sample and then go to good letterpress / engraving shops in nyc before comitting to an invitation

Here are my thoughts:

I love stationary, and a wedding invitation is the most important one you'll ever select... so it should be exactly what I want... if you think similarly, the $$ are worth it.

I found out that it simply isn't true that 90% of people toss the invitation... Several friends have tucked my invitation away in a special spot simply becuase they thought it was very elegant... (and then family will do that for sentimental reasons) An artist friend of mine actually complimented me and said it was the most beutiful invite she ever received...

That said, a $12-15 invitation should require a lot of labor... high quality (even handmade) paper and hand pressing.... old school style... on a 19th century press... to me, anything else should cost less....

hope this helps your decision-making process
oh, you might also like to surf the website I got my invitations from.... custom letterpress work.. they'll even hand-mix ink to the exact colors you would like...

Re: What do you think????

I think $2K for invites is too much. Remember, most people wont really pay too much attention to it when they received it...the first thing they will do is to look at the date, place and time...then it will be folded and store in their drawers....i also guarantee you that only 10% will bring their invitation to the actual event...so in my opinion...keep searching I'm sure you can find an invite that is reasonable price.

While they are really nice, I agree that you can definitely get them cheaper somewhere else. I would never spend that kind of money on invites even if I had it. I would put that money toward something else without a doubt. Look around, they are nice but I dont think they are worth that much
