What is the one piece of advice you would give from your own relationship
Original post by gfield101
I highly recommend everyone on here, picking up the book, 'Lies at the ALter' by Dr. Robin L. Smith.
It has 200 questions to ask each other, and my FH agreed to doing the questions with me over the summer and our relationship has improved soooo much since.
You learn so much about each other and how to communicate (esp for the guys).
To this day I am in shock how my FH answered some of these questions, I never would have guessed..
That is my one piece of advice, what would you say from your own experiences?

I skipped straight to the SEX questions and then to the finances... but read the entire book, its really really good!
It also makes for a great bridal shower gift for the wishing well.

Choose your battles wisely. Do not fight just for the sake of fighting... sometimes just give in...it is not always worth the fight!!!

Dont let anyone get in the way of your relationship. Dont let anyone in his or your family tell you what you HAVE to do for the wedding, your marriage or your life.

I'm fairly young and it took me a long time to realize this.....but i think my advice is to have a life for yourself too....meaning, if you absolutely love to paint...don't just give that up and feel like you have to spend every moment with fh/dh, make sure you do things you enjoy....don't forget who you are. i've learned that it's good to have a bit of space for yourself, and there's nothing wrong with that......learning this has helped mine and fh's relationship a lot.
Agreed!
Last night in pre cana, we touched on this - and someone made a great point by saying it is important to stay true to ourselves - after all, that's why HE/SHE fell in love in the first place

dont go to sleep mad - what i love about us is that even though we might get into a little disgreement , we just look at each other, laugh and know its not worth it :)
See, I have the exact opposite advice! I think sometimes you absolutely need to go to bed upset...there have been cases where we've been fighting at night and we could stay up and keep the thing going till the point of exhaustion but instead we know sometimes it's jut time to hit the hay, and we wake up, realizing how silly we were the night before! Goes to show that it all depends.

My piece of advice after you get married, don't stop treating your spouse like a boyfriend or girlfriend sometimes.
When you're dating... you take extra special care to get dressed up, go out, do something extra special to surprise, send a little random note to say you're thinking of the person, etc. .... don't let go of that. Don't get 'comfortable' because you've GOT the person. If that makes sense.
As time goes on it's easy to forget to keep up with little things like that.
