wait a month or so and be sure you want to part with it. then sell it and buy something amazing with the money.
Edit: not to be a Debbie downer but if there are any outstanding wedding expenses sell it and put the money toward that. Especially if he's not covering it all.
True!!! outstanding wedding expenses that I paid for. My, myself and I. He did not put one penny in.
then H*LL TO THE NO!!!!
you paid for all the wedding expenses and he put no money in, and then he gets the ring back. Not fair at all. Youre going to lose out on deposits and other stuff, let him be out for what he did spend money on.

i agree with those who siad SELL THAT B1TCH! lol you don't want anymore of his negativity laying around in that ring or made into another piece of jewelry... you'll get a nice chunk of change for it and you can buy yourself a 'starting fresh' piece of jewelry!!

Legally he is entitled to it back. AN engagement ring is a gift in contemplation of marriage and no matter who breaks it off if the wedding is cancelled he is legally entitled to the ring.
On a personal note, I would definitely give it back. I wouldn't want something that everytime I looked at it it reminded me of him.
Isn't that only if she breaks off the wedding? If he breaks it off, he's not entitled to it since it was a gift.
I say you should sell it.

as long as you legally dont have to give it back to him than i would either keep or it sell it (most likely i would sell it)
do you think he is going to try and get the ring back from you? if so, i wouldnt do anything with it yet just to be on the safe side......i have heard of guys suing to get an engagement ring back......i dont know the legal side of it though.....depending on the situatuon sometimes you have to give it back.......which i think stinks!!!!
Tiki-do you think he'll take you to the court. Alot of ppl dont end up doing this bc it would cost him money to hire a lawyer and the whole process of it, sometimes it costs just as much for all these fees, as you would win in a settlement so they dont do it...i know a guy who is in this situation and they were actually married already and she is the one who one day just left but still kept the ring. And if he even tries, which i dont think he even will, then tell him you will take him to court for all the wedding expenses

I don't know what would be appropriate etiquette in your situation, you're the only one who would know best...BUT...if you do keep it, my advice would be to sell it and invest! This way you don't really have anything to remind you of him, and you make some extra $$ off it!

I would sell it.... pay things off, or just take the $$ and invest it or something..... down the line you will look at how much money you gained by investing it and laugh when you think about the shumck that made you rich!!!!!

Nope doesn't matter if he broke it off he is still entitled to it back. Do you think he would try to get it back? If so I wouldn't do anything with it for now because if you sell it and he sues you for it you will have to pay him.
Also, whose names were the contracts in. If they were just in yours (like the RH, band, etc) then unfortunately he isn't liable for any of the lost money. THis is why I made FH sign EVERY contract also

THEN KEEP IT! Wait a while and figure out if you want to sell it to cover your expenses, make it into something else or just sell it and treat yourself. It was a GIFT to you and he decided to break it off, so he isn't entitled to it back.

Well is he asking for it back?? If not, I would keep it. If you don't want to hold on to it and he doesn't want it back, then sell it and you can recuperate some of the money you've spent.
