Where were you when the lights went out & what did you do all night?

Original post by jennbaby

I was getting my nails done, left without polish on, had candle light (not by choice) dinner with John, and then my neighbors & I had a 'candle' party outside out homes. We must have had the best smelling block in Queens with all my Yankee Candles lit!

Sad news is 3 of my fish died I am so sad

I walked to my brother's office and stayed there all night. DH is in Ireland and he was just going to bed when the blackout happened...he stayed up and was giving us updates from the Irish news! I caught about 2 hours sleep on one of the couches in the lobby and then got up for someone else to sleep. My brother slept in a windowsill for about an hour. They got power back at 7:30 am so I walked back to my office to try to go to work, but we had no power. I waited awhile and finally went back to my brother's office, had coffee, read the paper (was so surprised to see a morning paper LOL) and we got a cab to LI around 1:00pm. Got home at 3:00 and had lights

I was sitting at my desk on the phone with one of my clients making plans for the evening. I was supposed to 'entertain' them after work.

By the time I got home it was around 9:00. FI met me outside and we walked across to the beach and had a little picnic. Sat there for about 2 hours, went home and the lights were back on. All in all it wasn't so bad. Didn't work Friday either! Woo Hoo!!

I was at work. Everyone thought it was just our block because they are doing major construction across the street. Wound up walking over the 59th Street Bridge to Queens Blvd and caught the Q11 to the Q21. The worst part was I had no way to get in touch with hubby. I got home at 9:30pm and he wasnt there. Turns out he was at our cousins apartment in Manhattan, so I spent the night at my parents house.

I had the day off, so I had my brother's two oldest daughters (I NEVER get to babysit them, let alone have a sleepover with them) so it was a big day for us. Got up early that morning, drove in to Merrick from Patchogue to pick them up, took them to breakfast, then headed up to Castle Golf for a mean round of 18 holes and go-carts. Thankfully we put the Adventureland plans on hold until the evening when Bob could go with us. Could you imagine us getting stuck on a ride in mid air?? After Castle Golf, we headed up to Smith Point and had a wonderful afternoon. Driving home, the lights on William Floyd were out. So was the railroad crossing. I was like '***?' because we sat there for 20 minutes. A cop finally came along and rigged the crossing gates up. We went through a couple more dead intersections and I was like 'Let's get back to Patchogue, something is up'. When I got home and saw that my garage light was out, I was worried so I turned on the radio. Nothing... No local stations, no 1010 wins. I really started to freak. Finally I came across a faint signal on Z100 that said the whole area was out and that they had lost Tornoto! I FREAKED!! I totally thought it was nuclear because atom bombs **** the energy out of the air. I called their Mom who told me to NOT try to get them home because the roads were a disaster. I got another station in that said the airports were out and I couldn't reach Bob on his cell. I totally thought it was terrorist related. We hurried up to Pathmark and the place was on lockdown for ice and frozen stuff. Nothing. We got bottled water and whatever the kids wanted (chips, cookies, stuff like that) and BBQ'd whatever I had in the fridge. We pigged out the rest of the evening. It took Bob almost 3 hours to get home and we had a water fight before bed to cool ourselves off. What an evening.....To compensate, I took them to Splish Splash the following day since Merrick still had no power as of 1:00 p.m.

I got to spend the night in my office in the heart of Times Square and then walk down 45 flights of stairs the next morining with a co-worker who had broken foot, (I couldn't leave her by herself).

We managed to get a yellow cab to take us to her house in East Meadow and then I had Steve come to pick me up.

What a night!!
