Gee, I had my thought all lined up on this one, and then I read Shamma's post. She couldn't have said it better. To quote her on my thoughts...

I do not look at my job as all monetary rewards, I work with wonderful people and I am in an environment that I love.

However, as good as my salary may be, I feel very stressed with the constant work load I have. Is it worth it? In the end, I don't think so. One day my kids will be my one and only job, for which I won't get paid monetarily, but the happiness and joy I get from that will be worth so much more to me.

See, I feel as though I am OVER paid some days. I just feel like for the amount that they pay me, I don't have enough experience. I am a music teacher, and I am making more than a classroom teacher, and I only teach half of the week. On the other hand, I've been working on my skills since I was 7, if I wanted to figure in that, maybe I AM underpaid, hmm....

I am underpaid- mainly because I was making 25k more in base before I got laid off- but this is a horrible job market and I had to take what I could... stinks but it is true. If I count in the commissions I used to make, I make 50k less per year.. It really stinks- and it's hard not to be bitter to go from affording anything & everything to practically nothing.

But- with that said- everything is a learning experience and I am live on the salary I live now so I know God is telling me that I will always be OK! I am actually happy with what I do and content with the fact that I am learning a great industry and when I get my MBA will be poised to make a great career change!

as a teacher...and believe me I know that the vacations are needed to recover and not suffer a mental breakdown...but someone once told me that we get 72 vacation days as teachers...compared to other peoples 10-20 (2-4 weeks)

just something to keep in mind...to keep the teachers going at the end of the year!!

Thanks Erica. I need that reminder every now and then, especially with all this rain, a room full of 26 5 year olds, and the last day close enough that they can taste it.

Graduation is Wednesday and then I am done, DONE, DONE! Don't know what I would do without the summer off!

Isn't everyone in NY underpaid!!! The cost of living is too high in NY, and that makes us all underpaid.

I'm way underpaid... i work in IT and im getting paid less than a receptionist i know!!!! but i was laid off before so i couldn't be picky.

shamma and trish...what a great thing to know about your job...i loved a job...and thought that if I changed for more money that I would still love it...nope...hated it...people make all the difference...If I only knew then, what I know now!!

Currently I am somewhat under paid, but when I get promoted this year, I think I'll be happy with my salary for the work that I do. Don't get me wrong, of course I would like more money, but the position I'm in will only pay me so much.

I am not sure if I am underpaid but I don't like my work environment. I don't agree with the salary increase system implemented. Bozo to the right of me may make just about as much money as me and doesn't do squat! That is what irritates me. The salary increases were done across the board at a certain percentage. I don't think that is fair at all. I bust my behind for 4 months straight, take 15 minute lunches, work till 6 everyday, get in at 8:30, and I get the same increase as Bozo?? That is flat out unfair.
So what I have learned and although it has been told to me working overtime is noted (NO its not), I get in by 9, leave at 5 on the dot and take my long one hour lunch away from my desk.
I think if we were appreciated more in the office for all the hard work we put in, that would make up for the salary issue. But I am thankful I at least have a job. I hate the place, but I am grateful.

Does anyone feel as if they get more money they will be happier in the job. I do not agree with this statement. You are just being paid more to still be miserable.

I left for more money...thinking I would remain happy...and even when I got raises ($10K over 2 1/2 years)...I became more miserable and more miserable

Those of you who are on LIW all day, don't feel underpaid! When I am at work I need to SNEAK on, if they don't see me WORKING EVERY second, I could get in trouble

Seriously if you can do little things like come & here alot during the day and breathe, consider yourself lucky. Yes you still may feel underpaid & may BE underpaid but think of little perks you have!

I am NOT saying you don't work, or work your butts off for that matter but honestly, some jobs are like prisons.

In my job I am so busy & full of work, literally some days I can't even take a phonecall for 2 minutes or even go pee! LITERALLY!

Since I have been home cause of my back & on here in the day, I am in awe of how some ladies do work! LOL!
Consider yourself lucky.
Shamma told me she does time management, others, I dunno!

Money definately can NOT equate happiness!! I do ok & I am not happy!!

Just a point of reference. When I started my job 3 1/2 years ago, my salary was $22K (for an editorial asst job with a major publishing house that required a college degree). When my best friend started her first teaching job the same year, she started with $38K.

Both of us went to college and got degrees
$22K for me
$38K for her

There is no way anyone can say my industry doesn't underpay. The proof is there.

Jen, time mgmt does work, and we have hi and lows in my job. I guess satisfaction is different things for different people.

True, in my job, time mngmt is an IMPOSSIBILTY, the workload is so great, you'd wanna cry! My new position is what really did me in there!
