I guess it is just the fact of whether or not you believe what he stands for is right.
Thats exactly why Slick-Willy Clinton got re-elected for a 2nd term. Whether you agreed with Clinton or not... you knew where he stood. I see Kerry in a very similar position where Gore was eight years ago. I think people are just going to be too uncertain of what the future would bring... and the undecided voters will end up picking the incumbent.
Unfortunately you are probably right!

Actually I got my names mixed up but I am sure you knew what I meant.
When I say Kerry will be in a similar situation as it was 8 years ago... i meant to say that he is in a very similar position that DOLE was in eight years ago.

All I know is, I haven't had a raise since Clinton was in office- so I'm ready for a damn change.

I just watched the whole thing. I can't beleive that Kerry beleives the way to stop these terrorists is to be nice, talk , and wait to give them another chance. Clinton did the same and 911 happend in the result of that. Before we invaded Iraq we gave Sadaam many chances. We have to be tough not try to appease like Kerry is doing. I really do beleive Bush is keeping us safe. After 911 the victims family members said to Bush, 'please help us' 'do somthing' Bush carries a badge of one of the police officers who passed away in 911 and won't ever forget all the people who died, so he feels it is in his duty to fight back and be tough and never let anything like 911 happen all over again

Yeah but remember... the market was starting go downhill while Clinton was finishing his term in late 2000 early 2001.
Even if Clinton was eligable for a 3rd term (and he probably would have beaten Dubya if that was the case)... your raise situation would be no different.

I don't think Bush went about the Iraq thing in the right way. We always say to kids 'Don't Bully' but isn't that what Bush is doing to alot of countries? How can we win a war on terror with a president that pisses the world off?

The reason why he says this is the exception to the rule is... we would be much better off fighting the enemy in Iraq... rather than fighting them here on our soil.
I definitely look forward to the next debate. This one I think definitely lived up to expectations.

I have to think if Clinton had a 3rd term that while the dot com bubble would have burst, the recovery would have been faster. We are still not recovering, and I do blame the economy on Bush. I think with the proper incentives to spark innovation and R&D we could have another boom like the internet. The job situation is why the economy isn't recovering. People aren't stupid- most people I know STILL aren't at their 2000 levels and are wary to spend extra cash- we still know people who have recently laid off- I save every extra cent I have b/c you 'never know' and you cannot count of corporations to be there for you- I think if Bush REALLY went after the Enrons, MCIs and Qwests of the world people would also have more confidence in their job situation.
I just think Bush's presidency is an epic disaster. I don't feel any safer in the world, my pocket book doesn't feel any fuller, and I certainly don't feel like the government is representing the needs and interests of all of the people.

What I don't understand is how people who support Bush think that being in Iraq makes us any safer. How going after Saddam had anything to do with Osama Bin Laden and 9/11. I believe that Kerry is right- that the Iraq situation could have been put on the back burner and controlled with continual international talks and sanctions with the backing of the UN. However, if we were talking about Bush committing resources and troops to go after Bin Laden- I would be ALL for it- but as far as I have seen- and I read both the Washington Post and the NY Times every day- Bush hasn't really been making a concerted effort to go after Osama. Additionally, I think that looking at the governments reports- Bush's OWN administration- Iraq is become a dismal failure and another reason for the Muslim Extremists to hate us. We are certainly giving them a nice long list of reasons to recruit their next generation of suicide bombers.
I don't think Clinton caused 9/11- I don't think anyone did- I think it was the culmination of 50+ years of feeling untouched. I don't think anyone's administration was to fault.
However, I do fault Bush for pulling resources away from Afghanistan to fight Saddam. And the fact that Bush says that there is a victory in Iraq is a lie and is foolish- and it scares me that he can read his own intelligence reports and believe that.
If Bush really feels that it is his duty to protect us- then go after who crashed the planes into the twin towers... not saddam, not the Baathist party, but Al Qaida.
Then, regardless of his awful economic policy, I might CONSIDER voting for him. Otherwise, I think he is making the world a MORE dangerous place.

Re: Who is watching the debates?
Bush did not come across well. He was slow at delivering his message, and seemed to really waste his time, while Kerry made fully use of his time, wasting very little of it.
Just based on their ability to deliver a speech, Kerry is much, much stronger. Bush fails to deliver that 'Commander' aurora.
And it is VERY key that North Korea and Iran are building up their nuclear arsenal. If this world is a safer place, as this administration would have you believe, how are this countries able to get away with building up nukes???
One other hot issue that has really ticked me off this week, was hearing how the Bush administration has the nerve to even be considering doing away with the Mortgage Interest deduction on tax returns.
So, okay .. I got a tax cut .. but now you're going to take away my mortgage interest deduction???!!! I'd rather have the tax cut rolled back than lose my mortgage interest deduction!!!!
'MORE OF THE SAME' ... I say .. NO THANKS!!
And by the way .. let's not forget .. 9/11 happened on President Bush's watch .. and we're supposed to trust him to protect us??!!

AMEN!!!!
While I am happy that we got Saddam. I am not happy that we didn't get Osama first. Thats where we should be. The only Reason Bush went after Saddam was cause his father couldn't get him.

Re: Who is watching the debates?
Well maybe I can't look at it the way some others on here can because I have gotten nice steady raises every year from my job.
Whether somebody gets a raise at the job every year... or doesn't get a raise since 2000.... I don't think you can fault the president for that. How bout faulting your company's management instead? I am doing very well at my job. Why is that? Because my job is profitable! They wouldn't be any more profitable if say Gore was in office now. They are profitable because the management here knows what they are doing.
Why did companies like Enron and Worldcomm fail? It wasn't because of the president. It was because of corrupt executives!
Well I guess we will see in the end who wins it in the end. Before this debate Bush was up 8 points in the polls. See see how this moves forward in the coming weeks.

There's a lot I could say. but they DID show Kerry's reactions as well as Bush's, you jst noticed Bush's more because he was making his smirking monkey face as I like to call it the whole time and kerry was poised and professional. Hey, Bushy say 'proliferation three times fast!'
Ok, but really I don't think either candidate did as well as he could or should have at tonight's debate and they really didn't draw clear distinctions or clear plans for the futrue of our foreign policy.

Battle of Tora Bora, anyone?
Oh wait, the so-called 'liberal' media didn't cover it, so you probably have no idea what it is.
We had Osama, Cornered, in the Mountains. We knew where he was. Did we capture him? No. We told the Afghans to do it. And what happened?
He got away. Yes folks, He Got Away. The Man Responsible For 9/11 Was Not Captured because the Commander in Chief wouldn't order US troops to get him.
Let's not even get INTO the fact that Osama is over 6 feet tall and is lugging around a DIALYSIS MACHINE through the desert!
And we can't find him? The man would die without dialysis! It shouldn't be THAT hard!!!!!
You know why we don't have him?
Because we're not looking - That's Why.
Why aren't we looking for the man responsible for 9/11?
Beats me.

Totally agree. I feel Bush is trying to put fear in the American public. Vote for me or disaster will strike. I call that bullying people for their vote.

THANK YOU RACHEL!!! The problem is Bush insists on blurring the line between Sadam and Bin Laden -- and so many people are just willing to accept that. It's like a bad case of racial profiling - they're both middle eastern so they HAVE to be connected. NO - one of them killed thousands of his own people, the other one killed thousands of OUR people. Who are we supposed to be protecting here?? Iraqis or Americans? I think Kerry did a good job of making that distinction last night.

Agreed! There was no clear 'winner' because neither of them did very well. They each used the same four lines over and over again.
However, I thought this was the best line of the night:
BUSH: My opponent looked at the same intelligence I looked at and declared in 2002 that Saddam Hussein was a grave threat.
He also said in December of 2003 that anyone who doubts that the world is safer without Saddam Hussein does not have the judgment to be president.
I agree with him.

The bottom line here is that if you are a Kerry supporter, you'll find a way to say that he won
If you are a Bush supporter, yoiu'll find a way to say he won.

John Kerry believes in diplomacy and exhausting every possible option before having to use force.
