I don't think I will be. All of my degrees are in my current name.
All of the women I have modeled my career after have not changed their names.
But a part of me wants to be known as Mrs. Reinhart.
I brought this up an lunch the other day and the men in the office flipped out on me. One going so far as to say they wouldn't marry someone who wasn't going to change their name.
Just wondering what your thoughts were.

Yes! I am going from Wilson to a very long Polish name! People are going to have so much fun trying to spell and pronounce it too!

I am having ISSUES w/ this but deep down I will take his name.... i have a serious connection to my name and have ALWAYS loved it, even though it's kinda strange and for some difficult to say.
I am happy that FH's last name is Italian sounding - b/c that is important to me to at least keep that theme going.

Absolutely. It's going to be nice to have people be able to pronounce my last name for a change.
Plus I got teased as a kid with my last name. So I'm kinda happy to lose it!

Not changing, I've never wanted to change my name. it's an archaic sexist tradition. However, there's no perfect soltuion, esp where kids are concerned.
I decided my kids will have FH's last name, and I will not go batshite on people calling me Mrs. FH socially, but professionally and legally I will keep my name.

I'm taking his last name, one Italian name to the next. I have some issues with some things, but I'll just have to iron them out, not a big deal. I know a few people that keep their last name for work and married last name for everything else.

Im very traditional and Im extremly excited to take his last name. I think that just signifies unity and especially when we have children. Even though im leaving my Italian last name behind.

I will be taking his last name. I just like the idea of our whole family (future kids included) having the same name. A coworker didn't take her husband's name and was very against it until they had their first child (she was well into her 30's by then).
I also love FH's last name and like how my name sounds with it.
When we talked about name changes, FH admitted it'd bother him if I didn't take his name but he couldn't make me do it of course.

I will defiantly be changing my name. My sister passed away after she was married, my bro changed his name to my moms maiden name, and my mom will be changing hers to her maiden name once I am married. Obv. I dont realllly see my dad so I def. want to. Plus I want to be Mrs. Hamerman-- though hart is cuter!

Oh yea- I love my dad but to finally have a name people can't bucher will be great. I have semi-short greek last name and people still f*k it up DENDRINOS

That is what my family wants me to do. Use my FH's name for social purposes and my current last name for my profession. I understand their reasons for it but I am afraid it will gt sooo confusing so I don't know what to do yet

I have to admit the feminist in me is screaming right now. Why should women have to give up their identity when entering into marriage and men don't.
Legally it will only be an issue when, if you have children, you try and take them out of the country. You will have to have their birth certificate with you. Other than that I don't really see any legal issues in keeping your maiden name.
Although I have heard that you can contact your old schools and have them reissue diplomas in your married name. Does anyone know if that is true?

I am too.. I am going to take his name. but I am considering keeping my maiden name while I am still at this job for ease of all the contacts here... and if I leave here, then leaving my maiden name there and continuing on with my career with his name.
BUT - I am having issues with leaving my italian heritage behind I do not look italian at all, but my last name you can TELL is italian, and I dont want to lose it. we joke - FH is less italian than I am (way less) and he has a german last name, but looks more italian than I do! lol
and I am having issues the more I look around that my new last name will begin with a Q lol silly, i know, but you try finding a Q in script for a cake topper that actually looks like a dam Q! lol
