Would you be put off?

Original post by BKtoLI

We got the wedding invitation for FH's friend in the mail yesterday and it was only addressed to him instead of both of us. Then on the inside envelope, they only wrote our first names, but then spelled my name wrong!! And both of the people getting married are teachers!!

Now normally I don't give a crap about this kind of stuff, and maybe I was put off because I'm hormonal. BUT his friend and FW know I live with him, they've met me already, and you would think they would want to get the names right! I didn't even address their invite yet because I didn't have her last name.

FH doesn't understand why I was a little perturbed about this. Would you be?

it would annoy me briefly, but things like that happen with my name all the time, so I try not to take it to heart anymore. people are rushed...it's not that they don't care.

Nah, I wouldn't make too much of it.

Just misspell their name when you send their invitation.

I would misspell their name on the check!

I'm not really stressing it much, and my name is misspelled constantly, so I'm used to it. I guess I just thought that she would have been as anal as I about addressing protocol!!

Then again, I have to remind myself, they ARE getting married in Vegas!!

I wouldn't be annoyed if my name was on the inner envelope. I might be annoyed about the name being spelled wrong though.

To be honest, I think if your guest isnt married you dont put both couples name on the outside envelope. I'm not on my invites.

I would let it go... I can't imgaine who I offended when I sent out my invites! FH was very very bad at getting me his friends names and addresses, much less who their significant other was. I am sure I broke ettiquette rules, but not everyone knows exactly how to address people, and sometimes even that is debatable depending who you talk to.

I am sorry though ...I know it's nice to be always recognized as a couple.

Re: Would you be put off?

That would annoy me. Especially that you are living together and also engaged.

My FH's sister did that to me. I don't think she did it on purpose AT ALL, but it still bothered me. She addressed her wedding invitation to FH and guest, and then proceeded to put on the table cards, FH and Guest. I was so upset by this because first of all I was/am very friendly with her, and second of all I was dating FH at that point for 4 years so I was a little bit more than just his guest! I assumed that it was because all the other brother's (4 of them) were just bringing any guest (2 of them responded with a guest and did not know until about 2 days before the wedding day who they were actually going to bring), so she probably just put her brother's name with guest for all of them. So that is why I did not make such a big deal about it. I kept my feelings to myself, but yes it did bother me!

that is true. that is actually proper 'protocol'. hey, people break off engagements...you never know.

It wouldn't bother me. Maybe your FH's friend spelled your name wrong and FW didn't know it was wrong.

We didn't invite anyone to the wedding that lives together and is not married, but if we had, I would only have put one name on the outer and then both names on the inner.

Re: Would you be put off?

I would absolutely be put off. We made the effort to know exactly every 'guest' name so we could put them into the list and have them correct for the invites. It wasn't even that much work since we did it early on. It's just careless of him to send an invite like that, especially when he knows you and you are a fiance, and not a new girlfriend.

i wouldnt worry about it so much, they may have been rushing or just didnt realize...dont let it get to ya!

Re: Would you be put off?

as far as it only being addressed to your FH... i can see that. I'm only saying this because i too have thought about how to address things (like my save the dates). And if you weren't married... than we only addressed it to the one person. (ex: my FH's friend has been with his gf for 6 years. I only addressed it to him. They just broke up last week). Now i'm not sure if you are really good friends with this couple or not. But the way i look at it is... we love my FH's friend's girlfriend... but he is the main person we were inviting. If we addressed it to both of them and they broke up, would the girlfriend still think that she was invited? Do you know what i mean?

As for the spelling... i'd let that slide. Not important IMO. There's all types of ways to spell people's names today. I'd let that one go if i were you.

Sorry, I'm one of those who would be annoyed. At least write 'and guest' on the envelope. Is that asking too much?

Re: Would you be put off?

I would be miffed for like a second, it's a little rude. If I was hormonal, I would probably cry about it.

Seriously- I got the invitation for my cousins wedding in August, and it was addressed to me only, sent to my parents house, and the inside envelope was to me and GUEST!
FH was pi55ed. If men can be pi55ed, then you can be.
