Re: Your first house...

my parents might help us get a condo within the next yrs cuz my mother refuses to let me rent an apt and let my $$ go nowhere. then we're planning on buying a house in va and rent it out then maybe just maybe after a few yrs move there. his cousin got a beautiful huuuge home for $180,000.

we couldnt afford a real home so we bought a co-op for 168. after we're married we would have made enough on it to put a nice downpayment on a real home and we'd probably expect to pay something like 600 or 700K at that time?

At this rate, I don't think we will ever be able to afford a house.

I don't even want to think about it! The house prices on LI scare the crap out of me!

Re: Your first house...

I swear, we are never getting a house. We rent in NJ and even if you live in the middle of nowhere out here, it's about $300K with a 1 hour commute to our jobs.

We have lots of debt, my fh would kill me for admitting this in public forum. It just doesn't look like we'll ever be able to get a house or townhouse. I'd be so content with a 2 BR, 1.5 bath townhouse w/a pool. We have lots of those out here. I don't see us doing the lawn or shoveling snow, which is why a condo would work for us.

My mom has lived in the same house on LI from when I was in 2nd grade. I hate the idea of her moving, but her 'hood is going down big time and she thinks at some point she will sell the house and maybe get some sort of 2 family house w/us and help with payments, I'd LOVE that. Plus she would spend most of the year in Florida so we'd get plenty of alone time - though I'm close with my mom and would never have a problem w/her living so close by.

Right now our first home is where we will stay for a while, I love my area, and i love my block. We bought and knocked it down, and are putting almost as much as we bought it for into it, we are not 'flipping' it and plan to live there.

It will have every amenity you could imagine, you name it we thought it of it, we worked with an architect and also an interior designer so everything is perfect.

I would love to buy a house that we could stay in for a while.

When my parents first got married, they lived in an apartment in the Bronx. Then they moved to LI in 1977 and bought a house. We lived there until Fall 2003. So my parents stayed in their first house for over 25 years. I would love if FH and I could do that.

That's what we did too-- we didnt make it any bigger- since we're not plannig to stay forever. But I am going to have to be DRAGGED away from my kitchen!! It is absolutely perfect! I just know that unless I have my next house built that I will not like the kitchen or the master bathroom- we did them SO beautifully! We vaulted the ceilings up to 14 feet in the bathroom...swoon! We even thought to have a laundry shoot in the bathroom that drops right down next to the washing machine... it's great! I know the feeling of thinking of everything. We lived with FIs for 6 months... the novelty will wear off!!! Trust me on that!! Good luck to you!

i would love to only live in one house

my parents have lived in my house since they came to America in 1967

FH STILL gets upset when he passes his old house - i could never imagine moving and letting someone else live in my home!!

its very hard when we moved from Staten Island to Long Island my parents built our house on land that was attached to my grandfathers house. We moved about 7 years ago and its still hard. My parents helped design it and we were the only ones living there.. now I see it when i visit my grandma and the people destroyed it. I think they forclosed and its vacant. vines are growing up it and the windows are borded up its just gross. even the lawn is nasty and that and the garden were my moms pride and joy

I just took a pic of it the other day.. this is it.. it looks terrible!! and you should see the backyard

Where is this... Town wise? The house looks SOOOO familiar!

FH and I bought our very small house with a huge yard, 2 years ago, for just under $400k. I was set on doing a remodeling next year, until FH proposed. Now all that money is going towards the wedding. I guess we'll be here for awhile.

We don't have a house but a co-op. It's not my dream house but I wouldn't expect that now. All I really want is a townhouse and in Queens even that is a stretch because there aren't many and they cost the same as a house...some even a million.

Re: Your first house...

I don't expect to be able to afford our dream home at this point. I hope to just find a condo to afford....it is sad, I never thought my financial situation would be like this at this point. All of the houses here are so expensive. I would love to be able to afford a nice house, that doesn't need any work...but now when I make cruddy money...but I have to put in my time to get where I want. So for now, I am broke, and my FH isn't doing too much better than I am. I just don't want to have to rent....ahhh...soo stressful!

Thanks for the words of encouragement about the Inlaws lol I know the novelty will wear off soon, its so funny you say that!

That sounds amazing, its really a great feeling and i totally know what your talking about, if you get another house, it will never compare so you will have to do construction all over again. We are doing a smarthome, so everything will be automated and the house will talk and have a brain, the doors will open automatically, and we put in central vacuum unit, and have 4 Compressors for the A/C we did radiant heat and we also put the laundry room on the 2nd floor right off all the bedrooms, We put a gas fireplace in our bedroom, and i have a huge walk in closet, and so does FH, and we are putting a huge jacuzzi tub, and a huge shower that plumbers have called a Car wash, cause it has all these jets that spray out at you. so i wont ever have to lug the laundry from the basement to the 2nd floor. This was my FMIL's idea too!
We made the house bigger, adding new foundation and a whole new basement section.

Re: Your first house...

Come to PA, b1tches.

We're looking at 3-4 bedrooms, at least 1.5 bathrooms and we will spend 250-300.

It won't be the house we stay in forever. Hopefully in 7-10 years, we'll get something a little bigger.

This is amazing. It looks like it is going to be gorgeous. Please keep us updated with pics. Mind me asking where about you -- don't have to be specific if you don't want.
