what questions offend you?

Original post by TommysWife08

i feel like as women, we are REALLY sensitive about different types of aspects in our lives... so that leads me to this question:

what question do you find offensive coming from a stranger/someone you dont know well?

for example, i know A LOT of women get offended if you ask them their age

discuss!

I have been asked by several strangers before why DH and I got married so young. They look at us and are like 'Oh really this is your wife, you guys look so young! Why did you get married now?'

It's like excuse me first off I am probably not as young as you think I am since I def look like I am 17. And plus is it any of your business that I am married? NOOOO. You don't know me so I am not telling you our reasons. I just say because I love him

This is a big one for me

other hot topics that I will speak out for are my brother and that he is MR and anything with the military

I know people are just nosy and some really cant help it- but i hate anything related to money- and lately, dh's friends keep asking about kids- I tried giving nice answers like we're not ready and got responses back like, you are not getting any younger, our kids will be so much older than yours and blah blah blah.

so now I just say I hate children and stare at one of their kids. usually it makes them laugh because they know how much I adore their kids

I dont want to say anything really offends me but I think people are really rude when they ask me certain things

How come you havent bought a house yet, how much do you have saved for it? - How rude

How much did you make for your wedding? I HATE THIS ONE. We didnt MAKE anything we recieved gifts. Someone actually asked me what we 'made' on our engagement party

I get this all the time too! People just don't get it. I look really young too. People think I'm 18. When DH and I were first engaged a few years ago, his family (extended) thought I was pregnant. Everyone was asking 'Why all of a sudden, whats the rush, you guys are to young' No rush and we aren't to young, we just wanted to get married. I hate that. Even when I introduce DH to people, they look at me like we are crazy. I've gotten 'Oh my god, how old are you guys' about 40 times since our wedding. People just need learn to mind their own business. Honestly, if it was someone I knew and they asked me, I really wouldn't care as much, but people who don't know me should really shut up. I guess they just don't think of it as offending.

I think that's the thing...people don't see it as they are offending us when asking that. But I HATE IT. Seriously we are happy and loved each other and wanted this...yes I mean we are young but we aren't 17 yrs old. Some people have asked as well if we got married at 23 because we have kids or if i was pregnant... Now that is just rude. If I don't know you how dare you ask me that question

whoa this is really common. ppl kept asking DH why the hell are you getting married. your so young. why would you do that to yourself. or saying your crazy for getting married. at my bachelorette party some drunk ditz was like omg ur getting married are you guys having a baby? also one of the strippers at his bparty asked him if i was preggo too. it makes me so mad. it is like um ppl can get married without being knocked up.

Re: what questions offend you?

1. How much was that __(bag, shoes, ring, etcc)__

2. Are you preggers, yet?

3. Why aren't you having children?

4. What do you weigh now? (after losing weight)

5. What did you used to weight, because you were sobig

Re: what questions offend you?

cant think of one thing in particular but i just dont like when ppl i don't know well ask real personal questions or things i just feel like is none of their business and i dont answer either. Good examples are what most of you brought up which is asking 'how much do you make' if i am close to you then fine but if not i just feel like its none of your business, i dont know its weird to me bc i never asked anyone this question. I agree with the other ladies who brought up asking how much things cost, BUT depends on the reason they ask. If somebody lets say is planning a wedding and is looking for a photographer, RH, DJ or whatever the case might be and is looking for recommendations but wants to know the price first then that is perfectly fine, but if not and lets say the person is single, already married or not engaged then i think its rude to ask. Not just with a wedding but anything in particular, unless you need the info for yourself then its rude

My favorite is how much did you pay for your house? Or how much is your mortgage?

I've snapped once and asked if they were asking cause they wanted to pay for it that month?

I also HATE being bombarded with questions, especially if I just meet somebody. I feel they are so invasive and pushy. WHy do you need to know my whole life story within the first 10 mins of meeting me, where i live, where i grew up, how did dh and i meet, what do i do, what am I, what religion and just a million questions. Slow down and take it one at a time.

Oh I have another one...

Why dont you become a teacher? Its a much better job to have when you have kids.. Business women can't really have kids and career..

ok maybe its a statement, but I hate hearing that!
I love what I do and dont plan on changing my career.

good one- I've gotten that too- a little sexist to assume the only careers for women are teaching and nursing

I dont really get offended too easily per say but some that I can think of:

Dont you regret spending so much money on one day? Ummmm NO.

I cant even begin to tell you how much I dislike this statement!

Some people are closed minded... I love my job and what I do, so Im not changing it.

Re: what questions offend you?

This may sound weird, but I HATE personal questions about me and DH. Like, I get really upset when strangers ask 'How did you two meet?' Arrggg. You don't even know me, why do you care? Usually either he or I will just make up something stupid that can be summed up in just a couple of words. (Our REAL history is very complicated and only my family knows the whole story).
