And if Kerry gets in - everyone's taxes will surely be raised...and the stock market will probably tank for awhile.
as far as I am concerned- the stock market/job market hasn't sufficiently come up to 'tank'
Don- you're fine with a draft? Maybe that's because you're too old to be drafter?
i don't think there will be a draft, i'm fine with the whole ss thing because in anticipation, i'm not going to have to rely on it when i retire --and i'm fine with roe v. wade

sure, why should women have reproductive rights? Lets all be born again christians or wear burkas.. I mean that's fine if that is your personal belief, but to impose your religion on someone else, well- that's wrong, and unconstitutional...
edited to say- no different from the Taliban making women wear burkas or stay home b/c of their religion... in their opion that is morally right.
I think it's a dangerous thing to legislate behavior based on morals.
Lord knows it's not about having less abortions- as abortion rates are higher in those countries where it is banned..
so I wonder what the REAL reason behind it is.

First of all, I dont look at it from a religious prospective, its comes down to morals. You have a living, breathing thing growing inside you and you kill it. Im sorry but I could never live with that guilt, maybe you can.

That is a religious perspective- other religions do not believe that it's life until it is born.. I haven't had an abortion- I know how to use birth control. But I don't appreciate some man having control over what I do with my body and imposing on me his born again Christian morals- which is what they are. Next they'll outlaw condoms and BCP b/c it's impeding the ability to procreate and then they'll call sperm life..
You should be able to make your own decisions and live with them. If you can't live with having an abortion- don't have one- I know I won't as I couldn't live with it either. That's what you said above. NO one is forcing YOU to have an abortion- but why do you impose your morals on others.
Until Bush tells me what he plans to do with all the children born into this world with out fathers and strong families b/c of his plan on banned abortion then I'm against his decision. He's against big government.. but he wants all these children born into the world with no services to provide for them. He is agaist abortion, but he doesn't want to teach anything about birth control besides abstinence. It's like the freaken dark ages.
Next they'll tell me it wasn't their problem- these poor children born into the world-the fetus is a living breathing thing, but to feed that living thing once it's born, that isn't their responsibility.. where's the parents, right? So no social security and no social services for those less fortunate, but lets make sure they keep popping babies...

Ok mabye I should clarify, this is how I feel. Your right its not my place to force my morals on other people. Everyone has to make decisions and live with them I would never
have an abortion either and yes I too know who to use birth control. If I were to get pregnant and didnt want the baby, I would probably give it up for adoption because I hear so many stories of woman who have problems getting pregnant or are not able to have babies. If my baby can make someone else happy then why not.
I also feel that if this law does get passed, woman will still be able to get abortions, it will just be hardier, but that JMO.

Re: A nice debate for a Monday morning
Of course I know there is more to life than money but I work hard and I would like to keep some of it. IMO - lower taxes spurs the economy and isnt that what we all want - to have a good life? I want to spend my hard- earned $ the way I want to instead of the govt spending it the way they want to....And, I highly doubt that the draft will go into effect if Bush stays in office - he said there would absolutely not be one- and I know politicians lie, but I just dont see it happening.... of course I wouldnt want to see anyone's brother get drafted to a war they dont want to be in.
I am definitely undecided on the Roe V Wade -I completely understand a woman's right to choose. But, the pro-life argument is compelling too. Look at how many people there are in the 30s and 40s who can't have children and would love to adopt a healthy child - I think that saving those unwanted pregnancies for adoption are good alternatives to abortion. It is definitely a divisive issue but for me its not the most important issue on hand.... not getting attacked here again is - and with Kerry who knows what will happen. I am scared to change administrations during a war because I just dont think Kerry will be tough on terror.

I think we agree too- I couldn't ever have one either.. I just think if you are going to ban abortions, then at least have the programs to support these children, as I think the majority of women who have abortions are poor and probably can't afford their kids...

Just like Bush Sr. Said, 'read my lips- no new taxes'.. telling the truth certainly doesn't run in THAT family.
We've had lower taxes for 4 years- and they haven't spurred the economy...

Re: A nice debate for a Monday morning
Yeh, yeh bring that into the debate :) And Clinton was oh so honest - 'I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky!! ' You gotta wonder when a president lies about that what else he was lying about......C'mon you know all politicians lie to a certain extent.BUT -- Bush has lowered taxes for every American in the last 4 yrs. Don't know about you but I got a nice decrease in taxes, plus with the elimination of marriage penalty and home interest rates being at the lowest ever, some things are ok.
My friend who is an accountant said she is voting for Bush because she is sure that Kerry is going to raise taxes esp. since he looked directly into the camera and said he wouldnt - nice foreshadowing there.

You would decide to make less money at your job and spend four fold more, would you? Does that make sense?

Re: A nice debate for a Monday morning
I don't really think thelower taxes have helped the economy at all. The $300 you or I could get back can add up to billions to help us get out of the defecit and solve some of our social problems, keep us better protected, or help the soldiers in Iraq, whatever you choose And the main tax cut Kerry is looking to roll back is on the VERY wealthy. I don't think he';s looking to take food out of our babies' mouths. Maybe it's just b/c I'm so 'liberal' but I don't mind paying higher taxs if it means more children can have healthcare or get a better education, or the fire house down the street doesn't have to close, etc etc. The tax cuts only helpd the very wealthy. Goverment programs help the very poor and help to close the gap that is getting wider and wider and will continue to widen under more republican rule. I'd rather someone take the a few dollars out of my pocket and many out of the pcets of the very wealthy and give it to people who don't need it.And I think wit the abortion issue, no matter what side you're on, the conservatives are going about it thw wrong way. You want fewer abortions? Then teach people about birth control and make it available to them, you can't hold people up to your moral 'abstinence only' standards. With Bush in office don't be surprised if your BC isn't covered by your insurance compnay anymore. Don't be surprised if Roe v Wade is overturned, but you know what, I'd would LOVE to see that day come, because you bet your white male republican asses, it would start a REVOLUTION and women would stand up for our rights, and men's heads would SPIN. They really would. All of these Wasps would NOT know what hit them.

Right he's lowered taxes and increased spending and put us in the future position to have MAJOR problems b/c of the defecit. It is not fiscallly responsible. WE're going to have to pay for this somehow.. and I'd rather do it now, a little at a time, before we are in a major crisis. This is not a game, you lower taxes b/c you can, not to be popular. We can't afford this right now.
You would decide to make less money at your job and spend four fold more, would you? Does that make sense?
Good analogy. No, I wouldnt.
But I would also like to keep some of what I earn and CHOOSE where I want to spend my $ instead of being treated like a child.
Anyway, Kerry is going to spend 10 fold more with all of his proposals, there is no way he can keep all of his promises unless he raises taxes significanty and then our standard of living will go down the toilet and our deficit will still be huge.
Someone said our taxes only went down just 300....that isnt true. The Economic Growth & Relief Act of 2003 made my taxes go down signifcantly more than 300 a yr. I went from a 27% tax bracket to 25%, which equates to a few thousand dollars plus the marriage deduction (the married filing jointly deduction) was leveled to the same as 2 singles filing jointly....The first yr I was married I owed $$ because the standard deductions were less.

You must have a really great accountant- b/c with his tax break and the marriage deduction we STILL owed and we don't make a lot of $$ ($85k combined) and we both have our taxes witheld at 0 at higher single rate....
