Re: Engaged Where???????????????????

At L'Espalier in Boston. It is an amazing french restaurant in a townhouse. We sat right in front of the fireplace, surrounded by candles, and he waited for the last table to leave so we could be all alone. It was also nine years to the day we met. When we got back to the hotel, there was champagne and chocolate covered strawberries waiting there for us. It was so amazing, I want to relive it!

In a hot air balloon over the Catskills way, way early in the morning! I'm sooooo not a morning person -- I think I woke up at 5 a.m. that day --Being so high up was so peaceful and really exciting at the same time!

Re: Engaged Where???????????????????

...At the wedding reception of his relatives right after the point where the bride through her bouquet. He was down on one knee, microphone in hand and with everyone crowded around. The song 'Let's Get Married' was playing in the background. His whole family was in on the entire plan and his cousins whose wedding it was not only (super unselfishly) insisted on him doing it there, but even helped orchestrate the whole thing. It was AMAZING to say the least and because it was a wedding, I've got his whole proposal speech all on videotape.

We are getting married March 1st 2003 and he proposed March 2nd 2002. BUT as a way to say thank you to the cousins and congratulations on your one year anniversery, we will be making an announcement when the clock strikes 12am and giving them a nice bottle of champagne.

After lunch we went to Dolphin Beach in the Hamptons where he proposed to me. We had met on the beach and also shared our first kiss on the beach.

Two years ago under the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center after a horse and carriage ride and a tour of St. Patrick's Cathedral. It was so cold that night. After we got home that night - I didn't sleep at all!!

Re: Engaged Where???????????????????

We were engaged May 26, 2001, on a beautiful, clear, starry night at the top of Libe Slope on the Cornell University campus, a place near and dear to both our hearts (after both attending college there). We were there for my brother's graduation and my fiance's cousin's graduation with her PhD, so all our families were there, as well! We had just returned from a nice dinner with one family and, instead of going back to the motel, we drove onto campus and walked to the top of the hill by the library where the view is incredible. It was there that Matt got down on his knee and asked me to spend the rest of her life with him! I actually don't remember all the words he used, though, because I think I said 'yes!' before he finished asking! The next morning, we got to share our wonderful news with all the people closest to us at once. It turned into a huge party, with so many things to celebrate, and our families even got to meet each other (for the first time...scary!).

Re: Engaged Where???????????????????

He actually asked me twice but the first time he didn't have a ring yet.

The first time we were in one of the Ceasars Resorts in the Poconos and we had gone for a dip in the big heart shaped swimming pool in our room & as we held each other he asked me if I would be his wife.

The second time we had dinner reservations for Valentines Day but he wound up getting very sick with a stomach virus & had passed out at work and was driven back to my house from Manhatten in a company vehicle since he had taken the train to work (they also took him to get his car & followed him to my house to be sure he got here ok. Sooooooo he was very sick and weak & we didn't go out for dinner so we were in our pajamas on my couch. I didn't have any dinner. He had just enough energy to get off the couch & on his knee and ask me (which I had always told him I wanted) again if I would be his wife. OF COURSE I SAID YES for a second time.
Still not as romantic as I thought it would be considering he is VERY romantic but still very beautiful.

Sorry this is soo long!

mine was the day of greek easter - across the street from my house. it was way too stressful that day too. the first time that his parents met my parents and all.

he took me across the street by asking me to help him bring in some stuff that his mom decided to bring..... he tricked me.....

he bent over the trunk, reached in, and held out this box with this shiny sparkly , and asked me to be his best friend for life!

Re: Engaged Where???????????????????

It was at the LI MARRIOT. It was his birthday and we had just came back from a nice dinner. He had put the ring in a box on the bed, but when we got back to the room, I grabbed the blanket b/c I was freezing and wrapped myself up, covering the box! He got me to turn around to see what was on the bed and when I turned back around, he was on his knee!

Re: Engaged Where???????????????????

This thread is too cute!

I see there are some other Vegas engagements...ours was too! We were going to Vegas (from CA) just for a quick weekend trip to see DH's sister, who was going to be there for a conference. Since she lives in Atlanta, we rarely see her.

Anyway, I almost ruined my surprise! The night we were leaving, DH got home from work late (I later found out that he had to go pick up my ring!). So, he comes running in to finish packing, and I'm in the bathroom getting my toiletries. He says, 'You know I love you, right?' I say, 'Yea, you keep telling me that.' He says, 'What do I need to prove it to you?' I say, 'Somethin' sparkley!' He says, 'What, you want it NOW???' I ask, (jokingly!) 'Why, you've got IT on you???' Little did I KNOW!

Flash forward to the next morning...we are staying at the Lake Las Vegas Resort and Spa (beautiful, BTW, and where they filmed America's Sweethearts). I was dead tired and slept late. DH was up early and bouncing off the walls. We shower, have lunch (that's how late I slept!) and decide to rent a paddleboat and check out the lake.

Right in the middle of the lake is where he popped the question. We called his parents from the hotel to tell them. My FIL said DH proposed in the middle of the lake b/c he knew I couldn't swim, so I'd have to say yes! LOL!!

Here's a photo of the lake - the 'x' marks the exact spot where we stopped the boat and he asked!! Sorry so long!

Re: Engaged Where???????????????????

First time was w/o a ring on my b-day April 10th 2001, on the floor of his bedroom. The man was on his knees for close to an hour He was so darn nervous I did not believe that he was serious. I asked if you are serious where is my ring, his answer, I was afraid to get something you did not like LOL

When we got the ring made he re-proposed at Sammy's on City Island 2 mos later. June 4th or 14th I don't remember *note to self check calendar*

Re: Engaged Where???????????????????

At home in the guest bedroom...LMAO I was on the computer looking up the tracking number for my ring because he bought it up there from his families jewler...so they had to ship it down to Darren...I was leaving two days later and he wanted me to have it before he left. As I was typing the number in he got down on his knee...I did not even notice. When I saw that the ring was delivered I turned to smile at him and BAM! the ring was right there in my face!

Re: Engaged Where???????????????????

My fiance told me to pack a bag for the weekend on my 30th birthday. He didn't tell me where we were going. When we arrived at a farm/bed and breakfast, he told me we were going in a hot air balloon. I thought maybe he would propose so I was really excited. We helped to set the balloon up and held it open as they filled it with air. The basket was so small that only my fiance, me, and the pilot could fit. I thought for sure he would not propose so close to this stranger. When we were up in the air I saw some people on the ground opening a huge banner (I thought it was an American Flag). When they opened it, it said, 'Will you marry me?' I was so surprised...and really happy. It's a wonderful memory!

Re: Engaged Where???????????????????

I love these stories! One thing is for sure - we all have great guys!

We went away for a long weekend in the Adirondacks. It's one of my favorite places and I had been looking forward to going there together. We rented a log cabin with a fireplace, took our dog with us, and had a really great, relaxing weekend. On our last morning there it snowed, and I sat outside with our dog, drinking coffee, looking at the snow on the trees, listening to the silence. All of a sudden I feel FH at my side, kneeling next to my Adirondack chair. He has this real serious look in his eyes, serious and sensitive at the same time, and he's says 'Will you marry me?' and I think I said 'What?' And then I composed myself and said YES!!!
