Re: Everyone who WANTS or THINKS they have a 'TEACUP' dog

your Yorkie is then in the standard, she seems to be a Small one though within the standard... I ve seen HUGE yorkies as well!! They are simply horribly bred, and too big for the standard.... they could NEVER show... they tend to be much cheaper. you could show yours @ her weight. (given all the other technicalities of course)

my feeling is as long as you are adopting or buying a dog, you are saving a life, and making a happy new dog owner!

Ok. So the smaller are the standard. I don't know why I thought it was the other wya around. I could never show my little girl because she was born with a lot of problems thanks to puppy mills.

youre right, you are.... its just the whole puppymill thing.. i dont kow if youre familiar or not.... its really sad .... pet shops always have ADORABLE pups and its so hard NOT to buy from them... its just that when you do its supporting puppymills.. you know..... the most important thign in the end is that the dog is happy and healthy regaurdless.... its just good to know some facts before buying/adopting a pup

Re: Everyone who WANTS or THINKS they have a 'TEACUP' dog

My mom got her and my JRT at puppy city. She didn't know any better (I wold ahve told her, but she just cma ehome with them one day) and she felt guilty afterward, but now we're happy because we know she would ahve died if my mom hadn;t bought her. For the first few weeks she almsot diedseveral times. She had to be force fed, basiclaly, and we know at the pet shop they weren't doing that. With so many puppies in one cage they didn't know who was eating and who wasn/t. She also has big problems with her hind legs. They're all crunched over and she ahs bad kneecaps. We never sued puupy sity for the thousands in vet bills that it took to save her life. Thanks god she's very healthy now. My mom waon't make the same mistake again, but at least we feel like we saved her life. The other puppy also had severe kennel cough and now theyre both healthy and happy which is a blessng.

Re: Everyone who WANTS or THINKS they have a 'TEACUP' dog

I'm vegan, have led protests, held countless PETA, Fund for Animals, ADL, and other fundraisers and public awareness tables, have taught groups about animal rights, etc. for well over 15 years, and I have educated many people about puppy mills and how awful they are. But, I'll tell you what, there are many dogs that people will NOT buy because they are 'ugly' (like the chinese crested, lol!) and they sit in their own piss & crap for months upon months, sometimes years, in the pet store with children poking at them saying how ugly they are. So, at that point, you have to make a decision, 'Should I adopt a dog that's very adoptable from a shelter or save this animal, while it's only ONE animal, and it's supporting further horror, etc...'

There's a fine line there...
Not so black and white sometimes...
and this is coming from a hardcore animal rights activist that is VERY anti puppy mills.

Re: Everyone who WANTS or THINKS they have a 'TEACUP' dog

i understand. its so hard. i always want to protest Pets On LEx. theres alwasy SO many rich manhattan ppl in there buying dogs. EVERYTIME i go in someones purchasing one. I know Puppy Depot , Yuppy Puppy on LI, my minpins breeder said are the worst.. she said they always have garbage bags of dead pups. it drives me crazy. and youre right about those dogs that ppl just dont like in a shop. its a difficlt situation.

Re: Everyone who WANTS or THINKS they have a 'TEACUP' dog

Regardless on if there is such a thing called a t-cup or not...how can ANYONE abuse an animal? It is beyond my comprehension that someone could hurt, abuse or neglect and animal. I look forward to coming home everyday, feeding my kitty and playing with him. I love to pet him and hear him purr!!

It just makes me sad that there are so many unwanted and abused animals out there!!

Re: Everyone who WANTS or THINKS they have a 'TEACUP' dog

All pure breed dogs were bred for a purpose. They bred certain characteristics into the dog to serve man's need for that dog to do a particular job. People who buy pure bred dogs purchase that dog because when it grows up it will have the look or be able to do the job it was bred to do. A breed history will tell you exactly what that breed was evolved to do. I just know that there are wonderful dogs out there being euthanized because people don't know what they are buying or that they don't have the time to put into a wonderful animal. It breaks my heart to know that there are dogs out there tied to a doghouse their whole entire life deprived of human or other animal contact. Also, what most people pay for pet store puppies are also comparable to the price a breeder would charge for a pet quality animal.

I think it's because breeders are sort of dishonest when they say you have something 'special' like a teacup when in all reality you have a breed standard dog. Any Yorkie under 7 pounds is breed standard- the AKC doesn't recognize different classifications within that breed standard (i.e. Tea Cup, etc)

When you are breeding under breed standard- a full grown dog under 2 1/2 pounds- that's very bad for the dog- Their insides don't fully develop and they often times have health problems.

Basically- it's a marketing issue. Breeders and shops are marketing small dogs as being better and more expensive even if they are simply breed standard or under breed standards.

i understand....my breeder doesn't have puppers under 4lbs - because then they can develop liver shunts, collapsing trachea, etc...i thank god that my shea is as healthy as can be!

i do not have a problem with anyones dog at all. thats so obsurd and ridiculous. i am simply getting the info out there. you can educate yourself on this matter and learn for the future, or you can just be stubborn and belive everythign ppl tell you.
