I agree w/ luckybride... also in moorea if you want to try a different room category (and save a little $$) the beach bungalows at the IC moorea are supposed to be great!

Very true too! If you look at my pictures (On page 7 of this thread there is a link to them), you will see some of the beach bungalows at the IC in Moorea. We did the OWB there but only because we stayed 1 night at the Sheraton in Papeete (I think it was a standard room but not sure what they actually call it) then stayed 3 nights in Moorea, then took a 10 night cruise. We couldn't go to FP without staying in a OWB!

I totally agree!!!
I would just stay in a garden view room or something very standard at IC Tahiti for your first night.

I would also stay in a cheaper room in Moorea as they say the lagoon is much more beautiful in Bora Bora. Then I would add on a night in Bora Bora and take away that last night in Tahiti. That's what I would do. If you really want time in Tahiti I'd almost rather add it on in the beginning...so do 2 nights Tahiti rather than 1 in the beginning and 1 in the end....less moving around and packing/unpacking! But the IC Thalasso Bora Bora looks so amazing - if you can do it I'd do 5 nights there and only do 1 in Tahiti!!! Good luck!

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

ok, i have a question not sure if it was mentioned. but, what are you doing about phone calls when you are there? did you all buy some sort of international calling card? I dont think it is worth it to make my cell phone international ready for just 2 weeks? What do you girls think or what are you doing??

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

I bought a calling card when I got there for a newsstand. The only problem was that the hotel would charge if you call the toll-free number on the card from the hotel room, so I had to use pay phones in the hotel lobbies or on the street. It wasn't so bad. There were a lot more pay phones there because cell phones don't seem to be as common as they are here.

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

We found an internet cafe in Papeete that we e-mailed from when we were on land. On the cruise, we bought some wireless internet time and used our laptop. Some advice if you do this, draft your e-mail before you log on, you use half the time just looging on and the time really goes fast!
We never called. In an emergency, our families knew how to reach us. Hey, you are on your honeymoon, no one should really expect you to be calling!

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

Good point - maybe I won't call home either!

I will possibly email once to say we are there safely...or get a calling card like some of you mentioned. No big deal though - I wouldn't even think of using my cell...the rates would be insane!

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

Hi girls!! This may be a silly question, but have any of you thought about the type of bathing suits to bring. I typically wear pretty skimpy bikinis, but I was wondering if you heard that tankinis or one-pieces are better for the snorkeling, excursions, etc.

(can you tell I am scoping out the Victoria Secrets swimwear...hehe)

TIA!!

Either are really fine since you will wear a life vest thing when you snorkle/do excursions. I would bring a tankini just in case though!

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

We're not renting a car, we'll just do the circle island tours.

i thik Moorea would be a better place for car rental, though. It's bigger- i think 30-40 miles around? Bora Bora is 18 around, i think we can get by on rented bikes.

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

i spoke with a tatoo artist on moorea. He actually suggested that fh go in the water after getting his traditional tatoo. he said in the old days, that is what his ancestors did to relieve the pain. he said it would not ruin the bb trip, that he would be able to enjoy all the activities..
now i'm confused..

I don't think we'll rent a car either.
On Moorea we want to rent one of those cute little buggy things....my friend and her hubby did that and drove it all around the island and up to Belvedere Point and saw beautiful views from up there. I will attach a picture. Probably will def. rent bikes on Bora Bora.

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

For anyone going to Tahaa...found this person's blog (sounds like she's in the tourism business...she's an American living on Moorea with her hubby and kids...how nice!!!) - she just posted a review and pics of Le Taha'a Private Resort and Spa. She also has some other interesting posts on her blog - a Moorea restaurant review of Le Sud which she says is in walking distance from the Pearl Resort...good to know! I read all her posts - they're very interesting in case any of you want to take a peak. Also to the right of the page she lists some links to other Tahiti websites and she's got 2 links to Tatoo places she recommends....me and FH will not be getting tattoos...I personally am not a fan and he is Jewish so can't even if he wanted to. Good luck to those of you getting them...you're so brave!!!

Tahiti Blog

UPDATE.....I was chatting with the woman who writes the above blog - her story is so cute! She went to Tahiti 6 years ago for a 6 month scuba diving trip and she met her now Tahitian husband!!! Anyway - she said that if we planned to get tatoos to get them from James at the Moorea Intercontinental Resort...he has a tatoo shop there and she said he's the best! Just wanted to let you girls know that.
