It really varies depending on what islands you want to do and what hotels. You can spend as little as $7k or as much as $12k. Give us some ideas on what islands you have in mind.

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

I am just getting started on booking our honeymoon. We decided to go to Tahiti/Bora Bora.

Could you ladies please share HOW you booked your honeymoons?

Did you use a travel agent? Did you book flights/hotels separately by yourself?

Please share resources. I would greatly appreciate it. TIA.

I saw your post on BHB and just sent you FM on my TA. For this type of trip I suggest using a TA...they set up all your inter-island transfers and it's just much easier. I did research first so I knew what islands I wanted to go to and what hotels I wanted to stay at - then I contacted several TA's to price out the itineraries I was interested in and I went with the lowest price. Make sure you get trip insurance for such a big expensive trip! Good luck!

We shopped around and got advice from friends that had done this trip. Ended up using True Tahiti as our TA. Good luck.

It's FP...they're all going to look somewhat similar in that they all have OWB's. You just have to know what you want. For me it was easy...on Moorea I wanted the Pearl b/c it was in a good location within walking distance to things. Bora Bora was no question - I wanted ultimate luxury so I went with the new IC Thalasso. You have to do your homework first to know what you want. Sounds like you're just starting out - any questions ask them here. We are all pro's

I love luxury. I want a bungalow overlooking the water but also don't want to get too bored.

At first glance, I'm thinking Intercontinental Resort in Tahiti, St. Regis Bora Bora, and La Tahaa Private Island.

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

the st regis has beautiful big bungalows - but those are like 15k a night.

the ic thalasso in bb, was about 1k a night and it was amazing, the rooms were bigger than most of the rooms at the st regis.

La Tahaa is gorgeous, however VERY secluded, there is absolutely nothing going on, but still gorgeous!

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

For those girls who went to the newer resorts (St. Regis Bora Bora or Bora Bora InterContinental & Thalasso Spa), were there still a lot of fish around?

I didn't realize there was so much legwork in picking honeymoon resorts!

I've spent the entire day looking at hotels.

I like Bora Bora Intercontinental Thalasso and Bora Bora Nui.

Why the heck are these hotels soooooooooooo expensive!??!?! Sheesh!

I didn't stay at any of those, but we went on a 1/2 day shark and ray feeding that stopped on the motu that the Four Seasons and the St. Regis are located on. In the middle of the motu, there are private houses. As of right now, the Four Seasons is still under construction, which kind of disrupts the view and the peace. Plus the snorkeling isn't so great at the moment, also because of the construction. They are too close together, IMO.

Have you been to the tahiti-explorer.com forums? Great resource!

Good points here that's why I'm only doing 2 nights at Le Taha'a Private Island and Spa. Very secluded there but it's supposed to be an amazing resort. They have nice OWBs there but the better rooms are the beach villas! They are HUGE and have an outdoor shower and plunge pool. They are around $1k a night.

I'm doing 5 nights at Bora Bora IC Thalasso...getting my fill of OWB there! Not sure exactly what the cost is but I think it's bet. $900 - $1k a night. Breakfast and dinner is included there so that is a help....but if you're going next year the meals won't be included. It was just a deal for bookings this year.

On Moorea I'm in a garden bung. with pool at Moorea Pearl....again not really sure how much a night but it's MUCH less than my other 2 hotels. Maybe around $500? Not sure.

I'm saving the best island for last....so my order of islands is Moorea, Bora Bora, then Tahaa. That is the way to go - save the best for last. I'm doing 2 nts Moorea, 5 Bora Bora and 2 Tahaa. First night at the IC Papeete.

St. Regis looks amazing but it's SO expensive. They have rooms around $1k a night I think but they are just garden rooms and at that price I would def. want an OWB! If you are dead set on staying at St. Regis...maybe do more nights on Moorea at say the Pearl to save a little money...then just do 2 or 3 nights at St. Regis. I personally wanted more time in Bora Bora b/c it just looks so gorgeous but there is so much to do on Moorea....I'm now wishing I had more time there. Did you read (Jess) CaMacho's HM review? It's a great review with lots of pics and details...you should check it out.

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

Would you recommend booking early (8 months in advance) vs waiting until ~4 months before the wedding?

Is it cheaper now?

I'm wondering if there will be better deals once St. Regis, Four Seasons, and Thalasso are up and running at full capacity in Bora Bora.

I'm concerned about low fish quantity due to disruption caused by the construction.

Do these hotels ALWAYS stay at a $1000 per night pricepoint for OWB?

Do you mean those hotels specifically...St. Regis and Thalasso? Those I do think will always be at $1k per night and up. I don't think they will ever go down in price or have a special. Any special they might have may be to offer free breakfast or something...but I doubt the rates will go down. But I think there are other hotels out there that offer OWB's for less than $1k per night. The Pearls on Moorea and Bora Bora are really nice and are more reasonably priced.

I'd talk to a travel agent and ask their opinion about whether you should book 8 months in advance or if you should wait. I booked mine about 9 months in advance. I think the earlier the better with a trip like that. Some of the hotels do book up.
