I was told Bloody Marys is only open for lunch on days that cruise ships are in port....but that may have just been only during low season which is when I was there. Ask your TA to call the restaurant for you and find out. Definitely go there though....we thought the food was great (had heard otherwise) and it was just a lot of fun!

Kaina Hut or Top Dive were our other 2 choices to dine at for dinner on Bora Bora - we just never made it there. Our concierge highly recommended both of them. Kaina Hut is a little more casual - Top Dive is a little more fancy.

And to answer someone else's question...no we didn't book any excursions in advance. Best to wait til you get there to do that. Prices should be the same or close to it.
The St. Regis may be offering their own picnic that they operate and they may charge $1300. I'd book the Keishi one for $600 instead if I were you...that you may have to do before since St. Regis would only offer their own I'm sure.

I'm half way thru my very detailed review! May have it up in a week or 2!

thanks very much! We are probably going to wing it except for the Villa Mahana. Who knows where we will want to eat on any particular day! But Bloody Mary's is definately on our list now!

best,

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

I'll definitely look into Keisho. There is no way we are going to pay $1300 for a picnic.

Did you guys rent cars in Tahiti, Moorea, or Bora Bora?

Has anyone gone to Tikki Village in Moorea? Worth checking out?

Yes, we rented a car in Moorea. This was the best day! We just did our own thing (the island is one road all the way around, no stop lights or anything) and we stopped where we wanted to take pics, drove up to the top of the mountain, ate lunch, etc. I highly recommend doing this one day.

It really depends on how long you stay, which islands you stay at, and the quality of hotel.

I'd say bare minimum is about $7k for flights and hotels. You'll need to tack on at least another $1k for excursions and food.

If you stay for more than a week and stay at the nicer hotels, you'll definitely go over $10k for flights, transfers, and hotels.

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

Tahiti is really expensive! We didn't realize how much we would be spending until we started getting quotes. I am still excited to see such a beautiful place and can't believe the water really looks so blue and warm! I checked with several different travel agencies and some were less than others. Our trip is about $10,000 but we are staying in really nice places! I can't wait to see the Thalasso in Bora Bora! We got breakfast included there. Anyway, I think you should get several quotes and try to use someone who has been there! It's been really helpful to have a travel agent that knows all about it. I think you can probably get away with about $8,000 for the air, hotel, package but the meals are expensive. Good luck!

best,
evon

I am too! First of all I am a smoker and 12 hours without a cigarette is going to be horrendous!! Secondly, EVERYONE I tell immediately asks ' How do they fly that far w/o re-fueling?' Seriously-how do they? Finally, I get antsy and uncomfortable flying 4 hours in a coach seat-how I am going to make it 12 is incomprehensable. But the rates to switch to business or first class are INSANE! I guess I will be so excited on the way there I will somehow survive-but the way back is going to be pure death!

I am not sure what we paid exactly since everything was packaged together, but if you look on Air Tahiti Nui's website its around $3,000 roundtrip for two ppl on the direct flight out of JFK.

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

you will be fine on the flight- as long as u fly direct, and i totally recommend air tahiti.

the flight was wonderful.

we left ny at 545 and by 10:30 we were asleep, so hopefully you will sleep a lot of the trip.

plus, we walked around the plane and met a few other honeymooners.. some of them actually stayed at our hotel! it was great.

also, there are so many movies, and games and tons of things to do, you'll be fine.

i'm saying all this- and i dont know if most of you know what happened to me on the flight going.

6 hours in to the flight i got air sick and threw up every 20 minutes until landing! the flight attendant gave me dramamine but i threw that up too!
and i still rave about the flight!

on the way home, i took the dramamine before we left tahiti and i slept 8 of the 12 hour flight!

in response to the rental car- we rented scooters on moorea and it was great.. we drove around the entire island and took pictures at our leisure. as camacho said, there are no traffic lights, which is great. just be careful- people like to pass you!

i cant wait to go back!!!!!

I was SO nervous... but I am terrified of flying in general no matter how long it is! Take off is the worst part for me. After take off I have to say on both flights they were SO smooth!!! It also helped having DH there b/c he is so calm.

I would love to ride a scooter! Sounds like so much fun.

Are they safe? Can you get lost?

Where do you rent them? From your hotel? From the airport?

If we rented a car, we would probably have picked it up from the airport.

The scooters are safe, they show you how to ride them. if u want, just rent one and have dh drive.

We rented it at the hotel. it was fine- and not expensive at all..
