your honeymoon pics are absolutely amazing!! how long in advance did you book your trip and who did you use for your TA? if you don't mind my asking, how much can i expect to spend on something like this? i'm thinking of just doing moorea and bora bora for 10-11 days..

hi girls

i have not posted about this yet because I was waiting for my doctor to receive confirmation, which was just received today. I am not posting this to scare anyone, but im hoping this will help you all.

please make sure you use bug spray while vacationing in tahiti. my dh and i did not use any bug spray and i paid for it when we arrived home. the mosquitos were not that bad...a few bites here and there, so we never thought of using any bug spray.

well it turns out during our trip (not sure where in Tahiti) i got a mosquito bite, that gave me the Dengue Fever Virus. The Virus did not affect me until I arrived home, thank god! We arrived home on Friday afternoon and Saturday night is when I started getting sick. At first we all thought it was just a stomach virus and after 5 days, the doctor took some blood because i was not getting any better. By the time my blood work came back, I had been throwing up for 9 days. I was unable to eat or drink anything, because it would come right back up. Once my blood work came back, I was put in the hospital for 2 reasons: 1-my blood work was very bad...all my blood cell counts were down and my liver was not doing well and 2-I was extremely dehydrated (it was 9 days since i had drank anything without throwing it up)

I was in the hospital for 2 days with an IV hooked up to me. Thankfully, after 2 days I was able to go home because I was keeping fluids down. Its amazing how fast the IV kicked in, because after 24 hours I was feeling like myself again!!!

Again, i do not want to scare anyone. This is someting that is so rare, but I wanted to let you all know that it is very important to use bug spray!!!!

This did not ruin my honeymoon at all...I would still go back to Tahiti because it was absolutely beautiful!!! :)

I'm so sorry that you had gotten so sick! Glad to hear you are feeling better.

I brought two bottles of bug repellent with us, when we went in December. We sprayed each other every Night when we were going out to dinner.

Oh and please, do not forget your sunscreen...and Remember to re-apply it also.

My Husband complained....i Hate that stuff...well Let me tell you we saw so many sunburned newlywed.....He finally admitted, that he was glad that I made him put it on.

Its not a fun honeymoon when your partner says....don't touch me..I'm sunburned.

WOW that is scary and I'm so sorry you got so sick! Glad to hear you are doing better though!

We had bug spray but honestly didn't need it that much - only on Tahaa did we have a bad experience with bugs but after hearing this - I'd say to definitely everyone bring it and just use it! You can never be too careful!

Agree with you on the sunscreen - we saw so many burnt people looking like lobsters...definitely reapply often!

We priced out alot of package scenarios but ended up with the Sheraton in Moorea and the Intercontinental Thalasso in Bora Bora and our package is around $9,600. There were alot less expensive places to stay and some even had meals, free nights, etc. So I think it depends on how much your budget is. Our package is from LAX and we got free breakfast at the Thalasso. Good luck!

For those of you needing snorkel gear.....

FH and I just went to Island Recreation in Massapequa today and fold snorkel masks (with the little tube thingee) for 12.99 each!!

They are not top of the line but i think they will do the job!
