Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

I just got back from my honemoon.

We got last minute reservations to Villa Mahana bc someone had cancelled.

When I first got to Villa Mahana, I wasn't very impressed with the decor and ambiance of the restaurant. I saw 2 geckos on the wall and didn't care too much for the art style.

The food was AMAZING! I had the shrimp/lobster risotto and I can honestly say that it was the absolute best risotto I had ever had in my life. Villa Mahana was by far our favorite restaurant from our trip and also ranks in the top of my list for restaurants in my life.

I wholeheartedly recommend Villa Mahana.

Hmm, any other opinions? I'd like to email them today or tomorrow for the reservations (obviously if they're booked one of the nights, we'll ask for the other).

Since you are staying on the main land - the restaurant is not that far from Le Moana so I'd go on your last night if I were you! It's a really special place and such a nice dinner - it would be a great way to end your honeymoon. And you won't get back to your hotel too late so you can still hang out on your deck and have a few drinks there when you get back from dinner!
Make sure you get the choc lava cake for dessert!

Have a great time in Tahiti. You are going to love it. I have been depressed for 2 weeks since we got back.

My advice definitely bring a collapsable cooler (was good to put water and beer in), bring a raft to float around the lagoon in bora bora (that was my favorite thing to do there). If you want to go to Bloody Marys make a reservation early. We had wanted to go our last night there which was a Saturday and I tried to make one that morning and we couldn't go. That was the only thing I regretted about the trip. Told DH we have to go back now just to go to Bloody Mary.

You will love Tahiti. Have a great time.

Are there any collapsable coolers do you girl recommend? I'm not sure that I have ever seen this anywhere.

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

Last year I bought an Arctic Zone 12 can collapsible cooler at Target and brought it with me to Tahiti. It was the perfect size for sandwiches, water and snacks.

I just kept refilling it using the hotel ice machine.

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

For those who have already gone to Tahiti (ahh! I leave in a two weeks!) how much luggage did you bring? I'm having a hard time deciding what to pack!

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

We had 4 pieces of luggage. I had a 27 inch, FH had a 25 inch. Then we two carry ons. We had a little one probablly like 15 inch or something like that and then a rolling duffle bag. We had all our snacks in the rolling duffle bag and the little carry on we had our snorkel gear, water shoes, underwater cameras, rafts anything we basically needed for the water. We did not have to pay anything for over weight luggage. Hope that helps.

Have a great time. You will absolutely love it.

Girls that have gone to Tahiti -- did you have to exchange your money or did you just use your credit card?

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

We only exchanged some money. We got the capital one credit card that doesn't have the foreign transaction fee and used that 95% of the time. When we did exchange money we just did it at the hotels. Make sure you call your credit card company before you leave to tell them you will be using the card out of the country.
