Speaking of excursions....I want to do one of those motu picnics but they seem crazy expensive. Anyone know if they are maybe cheaper on one island? I imagine they are more $ on Bora Bora - maybe I should try and do that on Moorea.
Thalasso girls - so you know how we get free breakfast and dinner with our stay....I am there 5 nights and am definitely going to want to go out to dinner sometimes....like we definitely want to check out Bloody Mary's. Are any of you planning to go out to eat too or just take full advantage of the free dinner? I guess we'll try the free dinner our first night to see how it is....then decide from there.
I think we will take full advantage of the dinners with the exception of Bloody Marys.. But i have a question, is Bloody Mary's on BB or is it on Moorea? Why do i think it is on Moorea? If it is on BB, then we will definitely test it out. however, the other nights, i think we will stick to the resort. I hear dinners Cost and absolute FORTUNE!

We *might* do the private motu picnic. I think there are 2 companies that do them and they are about $600-800! Crazy... that's why we're going to wait till we get to bora bora and decide (depending on how much $$ we have left

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!
Bloody Mary's is on BB.I read from other forums that excursions and things on Moorea cost much less so, I would suggest that you look into outrigger canoe excursion with motu picnic/lunch/dinner on Moorea.

We just got our 'stuff' today!
1 night Tahiti - Intercontinental
4 days Bora Bora - Le Meridien
7 days Moorea - Pearl
FH and I are getting matching tattoos while there - anyone else???
Where are you going for tatoos?????
On Moorea - hang on I have to find the guy - my FH e-mailed him to make an appointment already... I will FM you when I find it on FH's computer... He uses US Dept of health standards etc...
can you FM the infor also.. and if you know nay in Bora Bora.. I s wan tto get a tatoo when I get there. Do you know if they are expensive?
I have no idea what they cost to be honest, but the guy (James) replied to my e-mail right away so you could ask him. I didn't do the research on Bora Bora tattooing because you can't really have a new tattoo in the sun so I wanted to have it done right before we left because I am getting half my forearm done.

WOW - that is expensive! I always say we will do this excursion and that excursion before a trip...and then when we get there we never want to leave our hotel! I have a feeling it will end up being this way in FP too!
Bloody Mary's is in Bora Bora.
Angnick...you'll have to let me know how the food at Thalasso is! Oh and I had emailed the resort and asked if I could exchange the free dinner for a free lunch if we wanted to go out to dinner one night...they said that was no problem and also you could use the free dinner at their other hotel on Bora Bora if you wanted. They provide free transfers there. Actually I think if you want to go to Bloody Mary's - you have to get the free transfer to the other IC hotel as it is much closer in location to Bloody Mary's - then Bloody Mary's will come pick you up from there for free. Dinners are much earlier in FP than we are used to here in NY...I read that somewhere that the restaurants close fairly early. I'm used to eating dinner no earlier than 8pm on vacation...but I think it's more like 5-6pm here!

I will definitely let you know as soon as i get back all the good and bad. I'm hoping there won't be any bad, but i'm sure there will be some food i dont like. I'm quite a picky eater! As for the picnics and stuff like that, we are going to do a few things, but not go overboard. We want to relax as much as possible. I think if we do two things on Moorea and two things on bora bora we will be fully satisfied.
At Thalasso, I can't wait to get the couples massage, I know it is super expensive, but it is something FH and i are looking forward to!
I also hear, that no matter which island you are on, the breakfast by canoe thing is absolutely fabulous. I might do that as well.
So, wait, how do i get to teh other IC hotel again? I love the free transfer idea.. Oh, and one last question, is anyone renting a car on either island??

I was wondering this too! I think we might on Moorea, as it is bigger than BB. Or maybe just bicycles.

I love that the FP board is getting to much activity these days!
Angnick....just check with Thalasso how to get to their other IC hotel on Bora Bora...I believe it is on the main island of Bora Bora and not on a motu. They provide free shuttles between their 2 hotels. And from what I've read on tripadvisor forums...the Thalasso is far away from the main town near where Bloody Marys is...so we will probably need to take the free shuttle to the other IC hotel...then get picked up there to go to Bloody Marys. Most restaurants will pick you up at your resort for free...but since ours is a little removed from the main town....I think they will only pick us up at the other IC.

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!
Thank you all
We really had the most amazing time. None of you will regret your decision to go there! As far as the sunsets, even the locals said they have never seen anythign like it!Now for advice:
As far as restaurants - on Tahiti we got in really late so we only had breakfast at the Sheraton. You might have all heard this already but the food is SOOOO expensive! The continental breakfast was something like $20 per person
My advice would be to bring some bagels or something from home!In Moorea, we ate at the hotel twice. Also very pricy but fun too. Since it was raining we really didn't venture out too much. We did go to Chez Capo one noght. It was fantastic. Very traditional. The man in those pictures is Mr. Capo himself! He is a really cute little man
The next 10 nights were were on a cruise so we were not able to experience any of the other restaurants. Bloody Mary's was closed when we were there (they are closed the month of December) but still, I have heard it is a tourist trap but a lot of fun!
Oh, and if you stay at an overwater bungalow, go for the breakfast they bring to you by boat. Even if only for the pictures, it is so much fun.
Excursions (we did all of them through the cruise but you can find local people to go through - no advice of who to use):
We did a jeep tour in Moorea - tha was kind of cool since we actually got to see much of the island
There is nothing to do on the Marquesas Islands (if you are staying there try to get to where Survivor was, we didn't have enough time) except lay out
Rangiroa - also not much to do but lay out. Keep in mind that the French Polynesian Islands are not known for their beaches. Don't be dissapointed! They are mostly motus, not islands! Basically a motu is an inside out island (the water is on the inside). FP was mostly formed by inactive volcanos.
Raiatea - we went snorkling and to a Pearl Farm on Ta' haa (the sister island). That is all there really is to do there
At least once, if not more, try to get to a Polynesian Feast. It is a lot of fun
you HAVE to do the helmet dive in Bora Bora. that was unbelieveable. If you can, try not to be hung over though, that is not fun
Best advice - bring water shoes! Dh bought his there at a supermarket if you forget. Get to know the locals. They are all really nice
