Getting Nervous for '08 Wedding...Will I get there?

Original post by Madorie

We've seen 8 or 9 places so far and they've all been either too expensive, completely not our style or there were just one or two things wrong w/ the facility.

I'M SO FRUSTRATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is the wedding hall supposed to 'hit' me like the wedding dress is? I'll know it when I see it and I'll be wowed or are some people just taking what's good enough?

actually i did get a similiar feeling getting the hall and when i got my dress..i just knew..we walked on the dance floor and saw our first dance there..honestly the best way to decide is figure out where you see you and fh dancing your first dance, cutting your cake..etc.

...LOL we're not the greatest dancers so I'm petrified of the first dance! haha. The cake cutting on the other hand...now that's right up my alley!!

Ideal Wedding: around $100pp (180 guests or so), something classy not gaudy, not out dated, nice grounds - on the water, gardens, fountains - just something pretty for photos and ceremony, bright reception room - clean, simple, good food (OF COURSE lol), great service from staff.

I would love a late Sept/Oct/early Nov Saturday or Sun afternoon wedding, obviously Sat. night would be awesome!

Am I asking for too much!?!

Did you try Chateu La Mer?

how about....

Chateau la mer,

North ritz club,

venetian yacht club,

or wesbury manor

did you look at any of those??

CLM is nice but the food was so-so (great CH food though) Westbury Manor is really nice, my friend got married there. We haven't looked at it because I thought we should go somewhere different but I think we'll add it to the list.

Have you checked the Riviera? I think it's beautiful. It looks like a house and has a beautiful view of the water. I know for sure it's less than 100 per person!!! You should look at it.

ps...ive never been to Chateau BRiand but my bro originally booked there but changed for a less exp hall. but he LOVED it....

thanks..what i loved about it was the decor.. it was very art deco 30's or 40's feeling.. and thats pretty much the theme i envisioned that old Hollywood elegance! That's also kind of what drew me to FT though.. knowing it was an old movie theater totally made me love it!! i def. agree though.. if you fall in love with a place u can make it work!!!! Chateau was slightly more than we planned but they gave us so much and we knew we got that WOW feeling when we walked in so we had to have it..lol

yup! haha our theme is a hollywood wedding...like so many ideas!!! thats why me and FH being huge movie people...me workin in TV totally fell in love with FT.

we are very similar!!! =) old hollywood elegance. are you doin a hollywood theme? if so..we must chat to help get ideas!

yes. def!!! . from the start i wanted a 40s movie theme..i wanted it to feel like that whole era..when hollywood was truly glam.. like gene kelly and katharine hepburn... i just love the old stars. That's why i wanted to do like a photo booth and a candy bar(or concession stand type deal).. but yet still make it very elegant.. martini centerpieces.. and bold colors, very slim dresses for my BMS... I have so many ideas.. i just have to figure out how exactly to work everything in.. i think i dream bigger than i should..lmaoo

I'm getting married in October on a Sat night at the Miller place inn, and its costing just about 100 pp w/tax and all that.

I definitely got a feeling with our RH - like I just knew that that was our RH. Don't worry you'll find something - lots of luck to you!

Re: Getting Nervous for '08 Wedding...Will I get there?

There are TONS of places out there. There are a few magazines out there that have listings that give you the RH price range...maybe you could narrow it down with that and then look around. Have you checked out the Metropolitian or Tavern on the Green?

go to CVS or somewhere that sells magazines and pick up locations magazine they have like 1,000 halls in there!

Did you check out Thatched Cottage? I'm baised on it there too but its really reasonable pricewise and everything you mentioned above. MUCH less than $100/person

Also check out Flowerfields. Originally we were looking for November this year ad got a price closer to the $100 you are looking for a well.

Otherwise the other places mentioned were nice as well. Just remember, you can negotiate on prices to get exactly what you want in most cases.

Have you tried Watermill yet? It seems to fit exactly what you're looking for!

I went to a wedding in May to CLM and the dinner was great. FH still raves about it. He actually tried all three choices cause he first ordered the fish, then they asked us if we wanted seconds and he chose the Chateau Briand (beef option) then he finished my chicken lol. YYeeaaahh he can put it away.. But stays amazingly slim.. I hate that!! Well just jealous.

Look at Fox Hollow (gorgeous grounds, good food), Giorgios (ditto), Thatched Cottage and Harbor Club (on the water, loved the food at HC), and East Wind.

Good luck!!! You'll find it!

You will find the place that is right for you! But, I have to say that personally, I did not get that 'feeling' that some girls describe. I love my RH, and I know that it is the right choice for me but I'm not neccessarily in love with it. I had to make my choice based on price, location, etc. and I struggled between a few places before I signed my contract. But, I have a feeling once you decide on a place, you'll have a lot of weight lifted off your shoulders! Good luck!

Thanks everyone. I'll keep doing my research. I'll look at the places you all mentioned - Riviera, Watermill etc. Hopefully some of these places are in Nassau Country...Suffolk is soooooooooo far away from where I live!

Keep looking... When I left my RH my FH said to me 'I feel like we just got engaged all over again!' LOL . Really, when you see it (and meet with the right coordinator you feel comfortable with) you'll know it!
