How did FH propose?

Original post by KK Holiday

There's probably a 100 of these around but I thought what the heck let's post how we were proposed to!!!!

----Include what he said exactly! (ie: will you marry me, will you be my wife etc?)

I came home to FH cooking us lobster dinner! He set the table and had raw clams on the 1/2 shell for an apetizer! (yummm!!) After dinner he said he got dessert and pulled out a bakery box and told me to open it. I opened the box and my ring was inside!!!!!
He got down on one knee and said: 'Kathryn, will you marry me?'

And i screamed at him: ARE YOU SERIOUS!????

happiest.moment.EVER.

Re: How did FH propose?

Mike knew that I really wanted to be surprised when we got engaged and that I didn't want to go looking at rings or bug him endlessly about it. So, on Tuesday February 13 2007, he asked me in the morning at work if I would help him at a customer later that afternoon. I thought nothing of this, since we'd helped each other out before (we are both in sales). So, at around 4PM, he asked me if I was ready to go and I of course started to ask him 'Do you have a tape measure to check the space? Do you have the customer folder? Etc.' to prepare to see his customer. He did and we left the office and jumped on the 6 Train downtown. A stop before we got off the subway, Mike tells me he has this picture book that he made for me, but it wasn't finished yet. I asked him to finish it and give to me on Valentine's Day, the following day (I had no idea what was going on for Valentine's Day- he was planning whatever we were doing). So, we get off the subway at 23rd Street/ Madison Square Park and start to walk to his 'customer'. As the light was changing Red on 23rd Street, Mike runs across to catch the light and I follow. He then gets a little flustered and I asked him what the address was of the customer (the office buildings are a bit confusing around there). So, he walks over to a park bench (how convenient, right by where we were standing) and starts to dig in his bag, for the 'customer folder' or so I thought. He thens pulls out the picture book that he had told me about on the train. I started looking at it (all 100 pages!) and he says 'You have to look at the last page- there is such a great picture!' Well, I'm freezing (it was maybe 20 degrees out!) and then I said to him 'This is great and I really want to look at the whole thing, but we have to get to your customer before 5PM!' I was totally clueless. But Mike insisted I look at the last page- so I did... When I flipped to it, immediately my hand flew to my mouth & I started crying when I realized what was happening! There was a picture of him with my Grandparents holding my ring and then a picute of my ring in it's box. At that moment, he got down on one knee and told me it was 'maybe some day' as we often teased each other about this special day as well as how he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and if I would marry him. Of, couse I said yes, in between tears. He slid the beautiful the ring on my finger and I don't think at that moment I could have been happier to know that I will spend the rest of my life with this amazing man!!!

Re: How did FH propose?

Well everyone knew including me that it was going to happen just not sure when- it was 2 days after my b-day and I was away for the day running errands in the city when i came back on train he picked me up and surprised me with flowers (still thinking it was related to my b-day two days ago) we then went out to eat and came back home I was in my pj's watching bridezillas in the living room when all of a sudden he told me he was going to make this big dessert -i'm thinking to myself what is the big deal it is just freakin dessert when all of a sudden he made this cute little display of fruit and ice cream, cookies circling around the ring on a display tray and then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him (bridezillas was still on as he was proposing- honest truth) lol.

Re: How did FH propose?

well.

We were in Savannah, Ga for St. Patrick's Day 2007. There was an ice storm here that weekend and when we got to the airport, dropped off by his parents BTW, we found out there were no flights until the next day ... and we said, let's rent a car and drive. I kinda hoped it would happen there... so I was super excited to go, and we also had to pay for everything up front since it's such a popular weekend there, so we had that to think about. It took us 17 hours to drive (we rented a car so that we could fly home ... plus his parents had just left in my car so we couldn't get mine for a little while anyhow!) and it rained the wholllllle way. We hit hours of traffic and an oil spill and got there at like 2 AM (left at 6AM the day before).

The next day, St Pat's day, we spent the day walking around, going to the parade, drinking, etc ... and then at like 7 we went to this awesome park with a huge fountain in the middle. We had been walking around and he was just like, let's go to that big park. We didn't know how to get there so we were asking the cops, etc :) We get there and he just walks over to this bench and sits down .. and I am like, what the hell is he doing .... and then he is looking around, making small talk ... and I'm like, if we are going to the dualing piano place we should go soon ... and he says 'yeah, we should.' I say, 'so, do you want to go?' He says, 'yes,' but doesn't get up ... I'm like W T F ??? (but I pretty much knew ... ) And then he says, 'Do you know what 'An bpósfaidh tú mé?' means?' I say, 'No ... ' and he says, 'It means 'will you marry me' in Gaelic.'

I say ... while choking back tears ... 'Are you just telling me that or are you asking???' We had been together for 5.5 years and I had asked him about getting married for soooo long, I almost didn't believe him.

And then he brought out the ring, and I was so happy about him asking that I completely forgot about the ring! I think I even said, 'Oh! There's a ring!'

BEST trip ever, best day of my life.

I had a Disney World proposal too....but not at Cindy's Castle. Mine was actually at EPCOT, my favorite place in the WHOLE WORLD!!!! It was October 5th, 2006 (one year ago today!!!) and it was the last day of a 12-day trip that we took with our two best friends. FH knows that I get really depressed on the last day of vacation so I guess he chose that day to sort of counter-act my sillyness. Soooo we went to Epcot Center the last day of our trip (as is tradition in my family) and we rode rides and got drunk and just generally hung out and then we ate dinner at a now closed restaurant called Mitsokoushi Teppanyaki in the Japan Pavillion of Epcot Center (I myself am very into japanese culture for whatever reason, I am a buddhist and I really just LOVE being among all the gardens, bridges and the koi lakes in this area...it's the most peaceful to me and it has special meaning to me...even more so now then ever) So anyway, we ate and as were coming out of the restaurant and walked over to the bridge I jokingly said to FH 'You know, Disney will let you get married RIGHT HERE.' and when I turned around he was on his knee so STUPIDLY I go over to him and get down next to him and say 'Who are we hiding from?' (since our friends had walked out after us I thought he was trying to be funny and hide from them) but he sayd 'No dummy GET UP!!' and he pulled a box out of his pocket said his piece and asked me to be his wife. Honestly, I don't remember much after that I was really overwhelmed with emotion. It's so lame but that is the way I always dreamed it would happen, in that VERY spot, I've seriously had dreams about it and I just couldn't believe it was happening, I wasn't even expecting to get engaged any time soon!! I looked up and remember seeing Spaceship Earth across the lake all lit up and the Pagoda right behind us and everything was soooo perfect. I thought about how important Disney World was to my whole family and all the history we have there and how greatful I was to have someone who could literally make my dream come true......I feel so gay haha, I'm sitting here tearing up like an a$$ haha. Anyway, after that my friend came rushing over asking FH 'Did you just do what I think you did???', and she got all exited, snapping pictures like a mad woman before she was pulled away by her BF (now fiance!!) to give us a moment. Then when we met up again we all went to the Ireland pavillion (it was Food & Wine Festival time!!) and we drank copious amounts of Irish Cream to celebrate. And thats't it!! Everytime I think about it I feel so lucky.

Here's where he proposed (except it was night time)

And here's a photo that my friend took of us on the bridge...(excuse my fat stomach and the funny face....haha)

My engagement was unexpected too. I mean I knew it was coming just didnt know when. My mom threw a surprise party for me so I was already overwhlemed. Then I had to give a toast to thank everyone for coming. Then FH wanted to make a toast. I knew what was going to happen then because he's very quiet and doesn't talk much. I started crying before he even took the ring out.

He was soo nervous I could tell, he forgot to get down on his knee and forgot what to say. His mom had to coach him. I think he said 'will you marry me?' I was crying to much.

Please escuse the blotched face.

On my birthday, he made filet mignon and lobster and had it waiting for me when I got home. Then he led me to the room (where I thought a puppy was waiting) and there were red rose petals everywhere and he got on one knee and said the most beautiful words to me and then proposed!!! It was perfect.

He did it at one of our favorite restaurants that we go to all the time so it was very unexpected. He didn't get down on one knee though. It was nice because there wasn't anyone else in the back room but us.

It was FH's birthday and I made plans to take him to dinner. What I did not know was that right after I called and made reservations, he called back and told them of his plans to propose and asked for a certain table...etc...long story short, I was COMPLETELY surprised...the night was supposed to be all about him and we would up getting engaged...best night of my life!!!!

Re: How did FH propose?

I knew he had bought a ring and was patiently (ok, not so patiently) waiting for him to propose. I had thought he was going to do it on Christmas, but he didn’t. We ended up going to New Hampshire to visit his parents for New Years. I honestly didn’t think he would propose then because it’s his daughter’s birthday and she was with us for the weekend. He was in a crappy mood all weekend and I couldn’t figure out why. Turns out he had grand plans, but Mother Nature did not cooperate. He was hoping for a lot of snow because he wanted to take me to the top of Mt. Washington, but since there wasn’t much the snow cat wasn’t running. Finally after 2 days of him being grumpy and me wondering why, he asked me to take a quick ride to the store with him. I went to get the kids together and he insisted we leave them with his parents. I always feel funny about doing this particularly with my son, so I was not in a great mood. We go up there quite frequently and I am fairly familiar with the roads, so I noticed right away he was driving in a direction I had never been. I was completely nervous at this point because I suspected what was happening. He drove to this place called Cathedral Ledge, but there was just enough snow so that the road was closed. Now I know exactly what he is planning and I am upset because the road is closed and I think he’s going to not propose yet. Driving back, he stops at a little covered bridge and says we should get out and take a look. Honestly I don’t remember what he said. I was too nervous. All I remember is wondering why he was making so many remarks about the gaps in the boards over the river (He was afraid he was going to drop the ring into the river below). He waited just long enough for me to think I was over thinking everything and turned by back and started walking to the car. He grabbed my hand, spun me around and he was down on one knee with the ring in his hand and a big grin on his face. I think I said yes before he even finished asking me.

Re: How did FH propose?

mine is not half as romantic or elaborate as most of you girls! I had been waiting awhile for the proposal, so I think FH just wanted to get it over with! LOL....afterwards he said anything he thought of just never seemed to work out for so many reasons or just didn't seem like him.

So he wound up asking me on the front steps of my house, after a long walk talking about our future. He told me to leave time for all the phone calls I would have to make (b/c I was telling him all the errands I had to run the next day). I asked what phone calls? and he said to tell everyone the good news and before I could say what good news...he was down on one knee with the box open and asked 'will you marry me!?'

I was so excited and relieved it had finally happened! Of course I said yes, ran inside to tell my mom and the rest is history!

Re: How did FH propose?

It was our two year anniversary. WE were supposed to drive to Delaware that day to be there for my nieces 3rd birthday party on Saturday then leave from Delaware on Sunday to go to Atlantic City overnight to celebrate our anniversary.

I had fractured my rib the weekend before and was pretty much out of commission, so I stayed home from work that day (which put a dent in his plan). HE took that day off too to go pick up the ring...lol... So....he wakes up at 5:30 and leaves the house like he is going to work. He calls me throughout the morning to see how i am feeling making sure I am getting my stuff ready for our delaware trip....all the while, I think he is at work. He is telling me what a horrible day he is having, etc.

So...around 12:00 he calls to say he is leaving work early so we can get on the road and get to Delaware early. For like 45 minutes in the car he was telling me what a horrible morning he had at work, I was asking 8 million questions and he had an answer for all of them...didnt think anything out of the ordinary. Turns out he was at him mom's house from 5:30am-11am when the jeweler opened. LOL

So....fast forward...we arrive in Delaware to my three neices, sister and brother in law. I was icing my rib and we were just chatting up a storm with the kids, etc. My sister then said, 'oh, today is your anniversary, what did you get'. I said, 'Nothing, we decided not to exchange presents this year'. So my sister starts making fun of him..lol...about 20 minutes of making fun of him . . . . .

He goes in the living room with my nieces, my brother in law and sister are in the kitchen cooking dinner and I am still on the couch icing.

My nieces then walk into the room (ages 3 and 2 yr old twins) hand me a box....I open it and they said 'aunt kristen will you marry uncle steve'. I started crying, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him and my sister started crying, my brother in law happened to have champagne in the fridge and popped open the bottle to celebrate! It was perfect.

Sorry it was sooo long!
