how do you feel about sunday weddings?

how do you feel about sunday weddings?

I am curious to know how people feel about Sunday weddings.

I know a Saturday night is ideal, but it's starting to bother me that I'd have to pay a premium for essentially the same service.

If we had it on a Sunday, we'd start a bit earlier and maybe do a 5pm CH and end the party at 10, so people can still get home at a reasonable hour. (Current plan was 6-11 or 6:30-11:30 for Sat night) It would be easier to book our church, too, as the demand is lower. We'd also be able to start the ceremony at almost any time we want because we wouldn't have to be working around the Saturday 5pm mass... (Latest we could have the ceremony would be like 3 or 3:30 which leaves 3 hours before the CH starts...)

We'd also easily be able to afford our dream place, instead of paying more than we really want to... It's still in our budget to afford this place on a Sat night, but we're REALLY trying not to go broke over this wedding. We want to buy a home and still have a life and be able to go out, etc. between now and the wedding...

As far as OOT guests, the way I see it is that they take the same amount of time off of work (Instead of having to take Friday off, they'd have to take Monday)... Most of our parents friends (and our parents) are or will be retired by then.

Anyway, this was the latest suggestion, so I'd like to get an honest gage from people. I've never been to a Sunday wedding, so I'm curious to hear from those who have. Did people *really* not have as much fun b/c of work the next day?

Any thoughts would be appreciated - and please be honest. I won't be offended if you think it's a bad idea. I really want to weigh the pros and cons!

TIA!

we had a sunday wedding... i just didn't think it was worth it to pay an extra 20 bucks a head JUST to have it on a saturday night. it worked out great for us... we had a 1:30 ceremony... which wasn't too early for anyone. the girls didn't even have to start getting ready until 9am. then our cocktail hour was at 4, the reception 5-9... a reasonable hour for anyone who had to be at work monday morning. i see nothing wrong with having a sunday a wedding at all... but i may be partial

Oh, PS -- if it were still 6-11, but on a Sunday, do you think people would leave early?

Thanks! I figured it's probably better to start it a little earlier than I would if it were a Saturday... and that's my feeling regarding the price, too!

Sunday weddings aren't my favorite, but most of the time I would take the Monday off anyway and wouldn't complain. If it's someone I'm not as close to, I'd go but wouldn't drink and would probably leave early.

Most of the weddings I attend are OOT, and for Saturday weddings I've never taken Friday or Monday off. I just do the drive Saturday morning and leave early on Sunday.

But like I said, I'd still go, wouldn't complain, but if I had my pick it would be Saturday, then Friday, then Sunday. Just my preference

Personally, I would rather attend a Friday wedding opposed to a Sunday.

Not trying to insult anyone having a wedding on a Sunday, just my honest opinion...to each their own.

I thought really hard about this because we just could not afford a Saturday night at Land's End and did not have enough people anyway. I decided to go with Saturday afternoon. Obviously Saturday night is ideal, but I have heard that people leave early on Sundays so we figured we would have it early Saturday for about the same price and probably have an after party.

Thanks.

Saturday is my strong preference, too.

Now we're just thinking -- if it were not going to be Saturday, should it be Friday night or Sunday?

Hmmm... Maybe Friday is better.

I just worry about our OOT bridal party members having to take an extra day off from work for the Thursday RD...

Ugh, we may stick with Sat night after all... but we're weighing all the options!

Thanks!

Exactly what I'm looking to gage. If we opt not to have it on Saturday (which is honestly a small possibility at this point), which day would be better? I was thinking Friday, but then someone suggested Sunday...

I think it really depends on your crowd. Our group of friends and family are a big party crowd. There will probably be a decent amount of drinking, and even post-reception partying. I'd rather have it on a Saturday night, afternoon or Friday night. If you have a more low-key crowd a Sunday wedding will work just as well. And those closest to you will most likely take the Monday off so they don't have to worry about rushing out.

Depending on how OOT your bridal party is, they may not even have to take the entire day off on Thursday (if you decide to go with Friday). Maybe just a half day, and if any of them can't make it it's not too big of a deal. The last couple of weddings I was in several BP members didn't attend the rehearsal.

We had a Sunday night wedding and it was awesome.

We had originally planned a Sunday 'daytime' wedding but changed it to night when family complained. It was a $10 p/p change but it was WORTH it! We had a wonderful wedding, lots of friends and family who partied and I have no regrets!

The ceremony was at 4:30PM (at the reception hall). CH was at 5PM. Dinner was from 6PM to 10PM. We didn't leave until 11:30. The guests stayed around and talked to us, took pictures, chatted etc after the DJ finished. The reception didn't rush us out at all.

We are having a Saturday night wedding....absolutely a must for us. Most of our friends also have had and will be having Saturday weddings, that's just what our crowd prefers. It wasn't a Saturday then I would do a Friday night. A Sunday would be my last choice.

That was good advice and a good way to look at it. We're definitely more of a party crowd, so Sunday may not be the best option.

Saturday afternoon is not something we want - we want it to start later in the day.

I'm guessing we'll be sticking with the original Saturday night plan, but like I said, we just want to weigh all our options.

Re: how do you feel about sunday weddings?

I am having a sunday evening wedding but we end at 10pm which is plenty of recovery time for the next day. We figured people who are traveling are going to take off that monday anyway (st. pats day) and if they don't oh well less $$ i have to dish out on your plate .

I never wanted a sat. wedding because its insane to pay extra 20/30 if not more a head. But if you have it do it thats why its the most popular.

Fridays are harder (my opinion) for everyone because of traveling (so they still have to take a day off anyway), you have such a late wedding where it doesn't end till way after midnight and i have lots of old people who couldn't do that. So my time is perfect.

We were going to to it earlier but realized i would have to be awake at 5am to start getting ready.. No way that is happening.

Good Luck!

To book our hall we had no choice on the matter , it had to be a sunday because we wanted Summer and that is what was avialable. I wanted Saturday night also but not available , and Friday people rush to get to the hall they miss the church. My reception is 5-10, it gives people plenty of time to get home and first of all people drink and even on Saturday night people drive home so they dont get drunk. I do not want people drunk at my wedding and if you work the next day you have a little little to drink, that what I would normally do. I do not get drunk at weddings, I have a good time and no matter what day it is, if the party is happening people will have fun, the day does not make the party.

I don't think theres anything wrong with a Sunday wedding. Ultimately people are going to remember the wedding itself and the food..not the day you had it on!!! Unfortunately I couldn't do Sunday because i wanted a ceremony at the church, or else i would have considered it!

i've never been to a sunday or a friday wedding.

this is what i would think... friday night lets your guests have their weekends to themselves.
sunday, if the monday is a holiday would allow your guests to stay late without worrying about work.

in the end, those who love you will be there even if it's a wednesday at noon [PERIOD].

Re: how do you feel about sunday weddings?

I went to three Sunday weddings this year (all for friends), one in the evening and two in the afternoon. As long as it's over by midnight, guests don't care. Some guests may leave around 11/11:30pm, but it's still a great day for weddings!
