The WAR OF THE WORLDS star, 43, decided there was no better gift for his wife-to-be than a full history of his long and fruitful career.

A source tells British newspaper the Daily Express, 'Each was inscribed with a special handwritten love message to the future mother of his child.'

In a new cover story that delves deep 'inside their love' (eww), People reveals that during a recent shopping trip in the Dominican Republic, the rapidly swelling Angelina admired a gold band made with larimar, a local blue volcanic gemstone.

'[Pitt] said, 'It's very pretty -- do you want it?'' the shopkeeper recalls to the magazine. When Angelina, 30, answered in the affirmative, Brad, 42, coughed up a whopping $48 and she popped it on her finger.

OK, so it's not exactly a knuckle-buckling diamond engagement ring, but with a baby on the way (due date estimates range from the spring to the summer) and a judge's official thumbs-up to rechristen Maddox, 4, and Zahara, 1, with the surname Jolie-Pitt (Brad's adoption bid is still winding its way through court), an aisle-walk seems almost inevitable.

'He's the kind of guy who wants marriage,' a Pitt insider tells the mag. 'And it's a great match.'

Jolie, meanwhile, is said to be feeling the effects of her delicate condition. She was reportedly dealing with nausea and an all-around feeling of ickiness while shooting 'The Good Shepherd' in hot and humid Santo Domingo early last week.

YUCK!! My DH proposed while on vacation in DR and I picked a silver and larimar ring. I love that ring & consider it an e-ring (although I LOVE my 'official' one). This makes me want to throw it out.

LOS ANGELES -- Laurence Fishburne's former personal assistant is suing him for allegedly firing her because she was pregnant and single, her lawyer said Wednesday.

Kristal Crews filed the lawsuit against the actor in Superior Court on Tuesday, seeking unspecified damages.

'He told her that he didn't think single women should have children,' Crews' attorney, Nikki Tolt, said.

Fishburne's publicist, Alan Nierob, said Wednesday he couldn't comment on Crews' allegations because he hadn't seen the suit yet.

Several months after she became pregnant and requested special accommodation for a film shoot in New Orleans, Fishburne told Crews she would be fired, Tolt alleged.

'He told her he was going to fire her on her due date. What a sweetheart,' Tolt said.

Tolt said Crews worked for Fishburne on the day she gave birth, a month early, in November 2004, and that stress forced the woman to have an emergency Cesarean section.

Crews' termination date was then extended to Jan. 17, 2005, the day she was supposed to return from her pregnancy leave, Tolt said.

Man ... Chanel really effed up this year ... not only did they give Reese Witherspoon a 'vintage dress' that had been formerly worn by Kirsten Dunst but it appears they gave Natalie Portman a dress that had been formerly worn by Debra Messing:

Well that's really weird. Although it could all be the different angles and clothes she is wearing. BUt I wouldn't put it past them to be fake...they are probably waiting for the ship from his home planet to deliver the kid!
