IF YOU COULD DESIGN YOUR OWN E-RING.....

Original post by MrsS4

with no $$ issue at hand (but be a little realistic) what would your ring look like -- or describe it---- type of diamond (shape & size) as well as which type of band---

thiss could be interestinggg --- i need to think about this one a little too before I find a pic to add--

feel free to post pics!!!

lol, I feel like the only person on here that'll say I don't love the ring I have. Actually, we're buying a new ring as well (picking it up this weekend) and this time I got to pick it so I'm extremely excited.

You aren't the only one. My ring is beauitful, without question, and I love it b/c FH gave it to me, but it isn't what I had always imagined. FH said we should change the setting but I don't think i want to.

you have a pretty ring and I could understand why you would want to change the setting but your ring is very pretty just the way it is-- but I think ultimately you will make the choice to change it or not-- imho it wouldnt change the thought of the ring--

My ring is exactly what I wanted. 1.25 ct center stone with heart shaped prongs. It has tiny round shaped diamonds set in between the prongs. From afar it looks like a plain solitaire, but up close you see the detail. It's unique and I love it so much. I have a few pics in my profile.

I would want 2 or 2.5 carot diamond. i have a princess which I love but if money was no object I think I would go witha cushion cut with pave diamond eternity band.

Actually, this is exactly what I did! I worked with a fantastic jeweler who helped bring what the ideas I had in mind to reality, and got the exact ring I wanted! The diamond is from a ring of my Grandmother's. I don't want to spam pics, so there are more pics in my album if you want to see how it fits with my wedding ring (this type of ring is called a 'reverse cradle').

I never saw your ring before. That is a GORGEOUS design!!!!

I love it too, I was looking for rings like this when I was looking at designs. I ended up getting a ring designed by a Celtic jewelery designer.

The one I got. I actually had put this together when futzing around on the debeers website before we were even engaged, but my fh put it together without me even telling him about it.

This is it with my custom designed wedding band. Very simple: white gold, heart shaped diamond about .7 carats (give or take, I don't remember exactly), teardrop sapphire sidestones.

My FH and I sat down and discussed first what cut I wanted. We then spent about 1month and 1/2 studying how to purchase a quality diamond because he wanted to design it himself and didn't want to be taken advantage of for lack of knowledge. He knew it would be a long term investment. I told him I wanted a princess cut and he took it from there. I ended up w/ a beautiful 1.5 carat (center stone) princess diamond and my band has 5 rounds on each side for a total of .5 carats.
I was really happy we did our research because the carats and cut is just a small part of purchasing a diamond. You have to consider the color, clarity as well and have a great eye. The reason the radiant you've seen doesn't sparkle is because the color or the clarity may suck . That's what really stands out. Jewelers also have tricks to spice up lower quality diamonds by using what they call flouresants. Please look carefully and remember, a 5ct diamond could be worth alot less than a 1ct diamond if it's an I S2 and the 1ct an E VVS.
Don't get conned looking for a big rock that has too many flaws. Believe me time will tell. Having it appraised and insured will give the the value of it. A GIA certificate is a must!! If you need tips try www.bluenile.com

I'm in the process of trying to design mine now and getting a headache over the final decisions ( post is below..please help..LOL) BUt if money was no issue, I guess it would still be what I'm currently putting together because FH picked out the three stones for me, just maybe a bigger center stone and maybe radiant cut. It does look pretty in the pics. I never compared it to the princess cut though. That's what I got and I was happy with it. I just didn't love the very plain band it was in...which is why we're changing itnow. Anyway, the center stone. It's 1.3 carats now. I have tiny hands so wouldn't want much bigger than maybe 2.5-3 but not really sure. would have to try it on!

i LOVE the ring you're considering though. OMG, but you may fall over wearing it from the weight of it :)

veryy cool--- i think I may have to do a spin-off thread if we hated the rings our fh's picked for us
then whatt??
