Re: Jewish Brides

OK-- I am definitely doing my pictures ahead of time.. I posted this in another thread-- but, I want it all out of the way, then it's the ceremony then the party- I want to enjoy the pary that costs a sh*tload of money, and that I spend a year of my life planning.

Re: Jewish Brides

I totally agree...I didn't want to miss my cocktail hour taking pictures, and besides, the 1 hour is not nearly enough time!

I never thought of that-- I guess it depends if you WANT that picture.. Now that I think about it- if I want to see my rings, I can look down at my hand.. but, I guess you can always put your rings on for certain pics.. After all- a lot of brides get two rings- one for the ceremony and one as their real band.. We take certain liberties on the wedding day to be practical, ya know?

Re: Jewish Brides

My review includes a description of how we handled kosher -- we had a very positive experience with Peter Schneir of Regal:

Re: Jewish Brides

We are taking our pictures before the ceremony too. I remember hearing somewhere that in the Jewish religion bride and groom can see each other before the ceremony, I believe for the reasons that you all mentioned. ITA with the yarmulke inscription. We are getting it the same way: Wedding of
Brides first name and Grooms first name and last name, date.

Re: Jewish Brides

Is anyone using the Rabbi from their Temple? We are, and we are told there is no fee for the officiant but we can give a donation. I was wondering if anyone was in this same situation.

Re: Jewish Brides

We are in the process of figuring this all out. I think, we are signing the ketubah for the 20 minutes before the wedding (when the guests are arriving). We have 3 hours of pics before (including getting ready shots, and our rehersal).

Re: Jewish Brides

On this rabbi issue. FH hasn't been t temple since his bar mitzvah, and it's a conservative tempe, so they wouldn't officiate anyway. Is anyone else in an interfaith situation, and who is your rabbi? Please recommend! I'm looking or someone who can really be a spiriual leader and counselor, who is legitimate and not dial a rabbi. thanks

We are getting married in a Synagogue but we are getting married by my Rabbi. He said the same thing, no fee but a donation would be accepted.

We met with 2 rabbis and their fees were either $500 or $750.. So, I think if you are making a donation, it should be in that neighborhood.

Re: Jewish Brides

We are using FIL's rabbi from their congregation. There is no fee, but we can make a donation up to $500 to the Rabbi's Discretionary Fund.

Re: Jewish Brides

At the temple we're getting married at, there is a fee, whether or not you use their rabbi, cantor, etc. I guess it is a fee to use the sanctuary. That's great that you don't have a fee to pay.

'Hi everyone. A friend of mine from work is getting married. She is having a Modern Orthodox Jewish Ceremony and she wants to find a photographer who will be familiar with the customs, yet does photojournalistic work'

While I feel compelled, yet again, to wax rhapsodic about my incredible photographer and his extraordinary work at my modern ortho wedding -- he just flowed with us from part to part (and even hung out at my husband's Tish breifly :) -- we loved him and it was so natural to have him be around us all day. The reality is most photographers can go with the flow and work with almost any tradition, especially if they are experienced photojournalists. The other thing is to start meeting them and checking out their books and websites -- you will see if there were traditional jewsih weddings or not.
