Re: Jewish Brides
I JUST PICKED UP MY KETUBAH!!! I am going to my mom's tomorrow, so I left it at work. I am a little nervous leaving it at work, but nothing has ever happened there. Its really getting real!

Groom sees Bride before ceremony?
In Jewish weddings, is the groom not supposed to see the bride before the ceremony, or is this only in Christian weddings?

Actually-- every jewish wedding I have been too- this takes place before the ceremony.. Especially since the bedeken ritual is basically when the groom checks to make sure he is marrying the right girl-- hence the before the ceremony-- would suck if it was after!
Also, the rabbi usually presents to ketubah to the 'congregation' during the ceremony.
Then following the ceremony is another ritual- I forget what it's called-- but the bride and groom go and spend 20 mins alone together- while someone 'guards' the door.. this ensures time alone right after they have officially become husband and wife..

It's called 'Yichud'. For us, it was the only time we got to eat!!
The bride and groom definitely see each other before the ceremony for the Bedeken and ketubah signing.

Re: Jewish Brides
The Auf-ruf (or as DH says 'ruf-ruf'
) takes place the shabbos before the wedding, or sometimes a couple of weeks before. It is when the groom is called to the torah for an aliyah (makes the blessing over the torah). It's his last time called to the torah as a single man. Sometimes the bride has a role too, depending on the synagogue. I did an English reading, and the rabbi spoke about us and gave us a blessing.

I am not necessarily taking his name-- so, I am not sure that is appropriate for me-- but I am guessing first names should be ok..

. . . part II of the question:
So if they see each other anyway, is it then OK for a Jewish couple to do pictures before the ceremony?
PS i would do:
WEDDING
Bride and Groom (first names)
Last Name
DATE

Re: Jewish Brides
i just found this thread!! YEAH!!we are having an interfaith wedding, i am jewish, FH is catholic....
you know...reading this just reminded me about hte whole shoulder thing. When i bought my dress, the store told me that the veil is usually ok, and until about a month ago we didnt have officiants...well i better get on it and ask my rabbi about both me AND my girls, beacuse the girls are wearing strapless!!! oh no! now i am freaking, but i guess since we are having a fairly liberal wedding...i hope it is ok!!
All of you OJC brides...you are in GREAT hands with Rob and Scott. I worked there all through HS. I love them! my little bro was bar mitzvahed there last year as well....FM me for tips fo things you absolutely want to ask about if you want!
