Let's start a thread- The stupidest comments you have gotten from people about your wedding....

It seems like since I got enagaed people have said the stupidest things to me ....
1.Why a 2 year engagment?
2. Why can't we have beer in the bottles ?
3.That does not look like calligraphy, it looks like computer art!
4.You send out your invites on the early side... March is so far away! (Hello- we are half way thru January!)

Feel free to add on, this may be fun! And a good way to vent!

“Why don’t you get married at the Water Mill? It’s so much nicer than Fox Hollow.” Said to me by people I had just met, mind you, and months after I booked my hall…

why waste so much money on one day, my response - hello did I ask you to fund it

Oh your ring is white gold what you think we cannot afford platinum

Don't spend too much on flowers, etc, no one remembers those things - my response- when you plan your wedding you can do what you want, since this is my day and my money, I will spend it however I see fit.

I guess you guys are rich throwing a wedding like this at such and such a place. Hello why are you so concerned about our finances??? Did we ask you or anyone to fund it.

here's another one!
said by a patient in my office today , I was starving and had not eaten since 6 :30 this am, 'why are you having a snack- you know you have to fit into a wedding dress!!' A bride is supposed to starve themselves!!! '(If I could have just said something back I would have, but I am too lady like to do so!)

In response to the color of my BM dresses: Black? Well...you didn't pick them out yet, right?

In response to the color of my flowers: Red? R_E_D_?_?_?

Comment from a 'friend' after looking at the hall we booked, while on a search for his hall: Yeah, we checked out your place. It was 'OK'. Nothing really special.

Um, yeah, whatthefvckever! (That's *my* comment.)

We get the money questions alot and lately I've been getting variations of this -

'I'm invited right?'

'I checked my mailbox and didn't find an invite'.

I just smile and say we're still finalizing the guest list

1. Getting married in January? That's horrible! It's going to be a blizzard! ---- Gee thanks for the wishes ...

2. What do you mean your parents aren't paying for your wedding? (from a 50-something year old co-worker I'm not even remotely close to) ----- ummm, yea it's not 1950 anymore hon, and weddings don't cost $3,000!

3. Africa for a honeymoon - don't you know that's where the highest concentration of AIDS is? ------ I couldn't even respond to that, besides well, I hope that I'll only be sleeping with my husband on my honeymoon? I mean do people even have any clue what comes out of their mouth?????

Oh, I could go on, but those are the ones that take the cake for me. Especially the Africa thing. It's a beautiful continent and I'll be lucky if I am able to go there for my honeymoon! UGH

You cant walk down the aisle w/ out a blusher.
Why is there so much time between reception and church?
Why arent you having a limo for just the parents?

Why are you having it in New York?
It is so much cheaper to have it here. (said by many people in St. Louis)
Hello? that is because I am FROM NEW YORK.

Oh I have some good ones!!

1. 'I want to wear something poofy and lime green' (MOB)

2. 'Oh, it looks like a white castle's! ' (referring to my reception site)

3. 'Ugh. Hawaii is so overdone!'

4. 'OH!! Why so far away! What are you waiting for? It's not like you're that young anyway!' (Regarding my 2005 wedding date set in 2003)

5. 'Only 6 Bridesmaids? Well, it's nice to have 8.' (at the time, I only had 6 but was planning on asking 2 more anyway)

6. 'EIGHT bridesmaids?!?!? You are crazy. Your Bridal party is out of control!' (MOH, after I asked the other two.)

Give me some time -- I'm SURE I'll have TONS more!!

why such a long engagement? I don't see you volunteering to pay for it...

why can't I bring my kids? I'm going to cover their plates it's not about the money, jacka$$, its about your obnoxious, hyperactive, misbehaving children!

You just reminded me about that one. My boss asked me that question when I first got engaged, after she commented about my boots and that I could use new ones! And I replied by saying that I needed to save for the wedding, and she was like 'you mean your parents aren't paying for it?' and when I said no, she said 'Nothing at all? Why is that?' I really can't believe the nerve of people sometimes. This woman also once told me that 'young people get married for the sake of getting married, they don't think about the mistake they could be making'...

The following are all from my future step MIL. She's an absolute doll....NOT!

Re: Our engagement party:

'You aren't expecting a gift, are you?'

As we sat in her recently purchased million + dollar home after discussing her plans to build a pool for about $70G. Uh, hello? I am marrying your stepson...a $40 blender wouldn't be out of line....or for that matter a card!!!

Re: Our wedding

'Well, it's a good thing that we are off the hook since the bride's family has to pay for it.'

Meanwhile, she knows my parents are in no position to pay for it since my dad is a retired teacher and I come from a large family. FH says that he would not be surprised if they do not even cover their plates! And they are Loaded!!!
Re: Our rehearsal dinner which FH dad/stepmom and mom/stepdad are chipping in for:

'Do all your siblings have to go to the rehearsal dinner? And by the way, we don't want to spend over $15 pp at the rehearsal dinner. '

WTF!

2. My brother's fiance checking out my e-ring for the first time 'ohhh, now I want a silver one!' It's not silver sweetheart it's platinum!

Re: Let's start a thread- The stupidest comments you have gotten from people about your wedding....

I'm from Westchester so I get a lot of 'why Long Island?' Well for starters, I didn't really want to have my wedding at the same places that I've been to for many other functions. Secondly, The Crescent is only a 45 minute ride from where I live. And third, no one seems to mind driving to Jones Beach or Robert Moses to lay in the sun, so I don't really care to hear people's B/S about the ride to my wedding.

Oh, I have an even better one... We just attended our friends wedding in Jamaica (it cost me and FH about $3000). We were thinking of getting married Labor Day weekend and when my FH told his friend, he said that they may not be able to make it. They're going to Italy for 2 weeks, I think they could plan to be home on time for our wedding considering that we flew to Jamaica for theirs. I couldn't believe the nerve!

Her: What kind of hats will the bridesmaids be wearing?

Me: They aren't wearing hats.

Her: What do you mean no hats, it's customary for bridesmaids to wear hats in church.

Me: Maybe 40 years ago, but not anymore. Oh, and we aren't getting married in a church.

Her: Well, what will they wear?

Me: Nothing!

Her: Will they at least all have their hair in french twists?

Me: If they want to, but not necessarily.

Her: Don't you think it will look sloppy?

Me: If I did I would say 'where your hair in french twists'.

Her: Ok, well I hope it looks good.

Me: Bye!

The 'her' will remain nameless, but the idealology should tell you she's older.
