L.I. bride/NJ groom - where is fair to have reception?
Original post by LauraPete
My fiance and I live in Jersey now but all my family as well as the church I should get married in is in Oyster Bay (Nassau county). All of his friends live in Jersey and his parents, Pennsylvania. I have been looking in Nassau and Suffolk county so far but should I also be considering reception sites in Jersey? What is appropriate?

I currently live in Allendale and my FI is from Somerset which is probably were we will live after the wedding! For a LI girl (who also lived in Bklyn for 4 years), I found NJ life an adjustment!

WHY do you have to travel 2 miles PAST where you are going just to use one of those jug handles to make a LEFT - my FI says it eases traffic, I say, he's brainwashed and it's DUMB- just put a left turn lane for $#$%$^ sake!!

HAHAHHAA! I hear some Jersey stress coming out. I completely agree and the only 2 fights my FH and I have had have been when I was behind the wheel in this stupid state!

I can totally relate! It almost KILLED me when I had to get Jersey plates on my car!
Actually, I went to St. Dom's grammer school (graduated in 1985) and then left and went to Sacred Heart Academy for H.S.

Laura,
The Manor and also Berkely Plaza are both popular places, but I agree, they are wedding factories... The manor can have up to 4 weddings at a time (we were told that at the time of our visit).
Depending on your budget, you may want to look into these places:
The Tides (pinkish decore, 2 weddings) The Primavery Regency (one wedding, ivory/gold decor) Richfield Regency (black/white decor, 2 weddings)
The above were our top 3 picks.
We've also seen berkely plaza, the manor, the excelsior, the brownstone, birchwood manor and another place right next door to the Manor (i can't remember its name).
The berkely plaza, the manor and brownstone all had a feel of wedding factories. Excelsior was nice but really not our taste, but only does one wedding at a time.
We also were at a wedding at crystal plaza, and that was absolutely majestic, but not in our budget.
I also heard good news about Westmount and Rockleigh CC, we were short on the minimums for them.
For a saturday afternoon in July, the rates were b/w $70-100 per person.

MY FH always makes fun of Jersey and the jug handles. I thought it was just him. How funny! February 16th marked the 1 year anniversary of him moving to Jersey and when I called him a Jersey Boy we almost got into a fight. He was like, I will always be a Long Island guy and this is just temporary. I told him he was losing his accent and he got offended. Of course we were only kidding but it was so funny how he still makes fun of Jersey.

I live in Union County in Union, on the border of Millburn and Maplewood-ish. I refuse to get a NJ liscence yet! And I am dreading the day to put NJ plates on my car!
The mall thing is good here but I can agree about the driving. I drive on Route 22 frequently and it is the strangest road I have ever driven on! I tell my FI I will always be a LI'er. He thinks I'm nuts!

I wish I could convince my FI to move to LI ! He keeps saying how Jersey is so much better, so much cheaper, ect but I want my $300K little house on LI with no property!! Only a true LI'er can understand that!
