Need serious advice....thinking of calling off wedding

Original post by TroubledB2B

I've often read your advice to other B2B's in turmoil and since I feel like I can't discuss this with my friends or family, I figured what the heck?

FH cheated on me when we were dating for 5 months, I found out when we were dating for 9. It took some time to hash things out, we never broke up but I never fully trusted him again until we got engaged. I made going out for him really tough by questioning where he was going, who is was going to be with and having him call to check in often. He understood why I did this and obliged without complaint. I truly felt that when we got engaged it was a turning point in our relationship, that there were no more trust issues, we were about to plan the rest of our lives together.

Lately I've been feeling uneasy like something wasn't quite right. I didn't think he was out there cheating (since we live together it would be more difficult than the first time) but still I felt a pit in my stomach. Two nights ago I found out that he had posted a personal ad on a, let's say non-reputable, web-site. He used all his actual attributes, height, eye color, hair color and even created an e-mail address for interested parties to contact him. I was completely and utterly devastated and in such shock I couldn't even shed a tear. I had to wait another 45 minutes for him to come home to confront him. I left what I had found on the computer screen for him to see and just crawled into bed. He saw it and came into the bedroom and I could not even look at him, it hurt too much. He tried to offer an explaination but I told him that I did not want to hear it because there is no explaination for this and that I cannot marry a man that I do not trust and I do not trust him. This made him begin to tell me how important I am to him, how I changed his life, how he never imagined he would find someone like me to spend the rest of his life with. But all I could ask is 'then why??' Why do something like this? He swears that he was not looking for someone else, that it was a stupid, immature thing that one of his other friends did and they thought it would be funny to see the responses they got. I do not find any humor in this, I think it is deceitful, disrepectful and hurtful!

We haven't slept in the same bed for two nights now and yesterday evening we stayed in separate rooms. He tried initiate conversation, but I was still to angry to answer at all. I try to focus at work to keep my mind off it but I just feel like crying at my desk and have to go to the ladies room to hide for a few minutes. I just keep asking myself what's wrong with me? What did I do wrong? The rational side of me knows it's not me. I just don't know what to do and the wedding isn't too far off.

Thanks for listening....sorry so long!

To be blunt: A leopard change its spots.

As hard as it is now, what if he says he'll change, you get married, get a house and have a kid. Then you find something else out. Its a choice you have to make, but I don't think I could marry someone that lied to me...again.

So glad that you shared this painful experience with all the girls, right now you need as much support as possible to make the right decision and as you see, other girls have experienced something similar. The first step is recognizing the problem-WHICH IS NOT YOU!! This person that you've loved has taken your love, trust and forgiveness and Thrown it in the Garbage, you gave him a second chance and He did not learn from his mistake, if you were to take him back do really think that he will change, I think not. If he could get away with not being faithful and honest with you twice he will take it even further next time. You are very very fragile right now, you are hurting and whats worse is you are putting blame on yourself - that is not healthy - staying with him is NOT HEALTHY, your self esteem and respect is getting chopped down the longer you stay in this relationship!! End the Marriage, do not even continue to date him, I don't know about counseling for you both - I think it's very obvious he doesn't give you the respect you deserve, I don't see how counseling is going to instill that in him, he's just not the right person. I think the best thing to do is get away from him fast and HEAL from the hurt. I know it may sound harsh and strong, but I feel the more you tolerate a person's wrong doing they will just continue - yes of course they will say sorry, I will change etc. blah blah, thats human nature, ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS!! YOU MUST ACT AND LEAVE HIM - THAT WILL SHOW HIM - HE SHOULD HAVE APPRECIATED YOU WHEN HE HAD YOU!! FM IF YOU NEED MORE SUPPORT AND STRENGTH TO STICK TO WHATEVER DECISION YOU CHOSE TO MAKE.

I am so sorry that you are going through this. I can't imagine how heartbroken you must be feeling right now. Sweetie you have to remember that none of this if your fault. You did nothing wrong.

I agree with the other ladies that it's better to call the engagement off then get divorced. From the way things sound I don't think cheating is out of system.

If you don't have trust then you can't have any kind of relationship.

Some hugs for you...

Before you do anything, go to couples therapy. If you really love him and want to work things out than postpone the wedding a couple of months and get yourselves to couples counseling. There may be and underlying problem that you dont know of. But if your gut is telling you this is all wrong, then follow your true feelings and just walk away. Make that choice for your well being, not his. Good luck, and we are here if you need us!!

I agree with Diva, if you love each other and want to work it out, then I would try couples therapy. With sounding like I am defending your FH actions, men seprate sex from love, they are totally different about it then we are.

I think both of you need to be open about your feelings and also be open about listening to each others feelings.

I was married for 6 years to someone I dated for 7. He cheated on me before we married, but there was always an 'excuse' (he lived in Spain and I here). Long story short, I found out he had been sleeping with my best friend (married to HIS best friend) for 2 years.

That was the end. I never should have taken him back. Few if any leopards change their spots -- EVER.

I would have saved myself a lot of time, frustration, anger, etc. etc. etc....I gave up everything and moved to Spain for him.

I say....end it. Now. Don't wait. He is not ready for this relationship, even if he loves you dearly.

JMHO..
