yeah I am, kristin! There it is again!

The post is so old. It was a huge drama on BHB b/c I asked what people would think of a vegetarian wedding, like would they think it was cool, cheap, nothing they'd want to eat, etc, and it turned into like, all of these unneccesary attacks back and forth, but anyway..

I think fur is SO much worse than meat, leather, etc, combined!

it's like saying 'Omg, you support gay marriage? do you alos upport stem cell research? You don't? How can you call yourself a liberal, you hypocrite!!!' Cause it's in the same vein, but it's two different things...it's annoying. I hate answering questions about why i don't eat meat, but I eat eggs, etc, because I don't try to represent myself as something I'm not. I don't think it's like 'well if you eat meat, then you can't criticize fur' because it's two different things. There's no black and white, there's a lot of grey, and everyone draws the line somewhere. Some people are completely vegan and would never wear leather or wool. Some people don't eat meat, but they eat fish, some people eat meat and wear leather, but believe fur is abominable (many people, actually).. ANyway, that's the short version. I really don't want to get into it again.

I understand what you are saying about not wanting to get into it- but you can't start a post like this and expect to not have to defend yourself.

Anyway, I agree that fur is gross, but am past the paint throwing (like I used to do).

I don't eat cows, or pigs, but have long ago developed an understanding that I should not criticize others for it- I am not going to change anyones mind so it is not worth it. Also, I wear leather shoes and coats and don't wan't to be a hypocrite.

Also, someone posted if the animal is already dead shouldn't it be enjoyed- just wanted to comment on that stupid statement (and I am sorry to offend, I am not saying YOU are stupid, just the statement- I am sure you are very nice)
If people didn't buy it to begin with, there would be no demand and the animals wouldn't be dead. People should do research on how animals are actually treated before they judge if fur is ok- it is really horrible stuff that I won't go into on here because it is disgusting.

IMO, killing something to eat it is different then doing it to be fashionable.

Also, the way the animals are kept and killed for fur is torturous and cruel- so it is not really the same thing.

I disagree with having 'defend myself' because I was just venting, not trying to cinvince anyone of anything, etc.

I agree with what the others ahve said. Fur is collected in a MUCH more cruel way than the wya they kill animals for meat, leather, etc. I think it's very different. Most people believe that we need to eat meat and it's the food chain, etc. yes, there is a food chain. I don't eat meat, but I can't argue with that. I have never ever tried to convince another person not to eat meat (with the excetion of veal, but that's another post). leather is durable and used for shoes, and also comes from the same animals used for meat, etc, etc. Fur animals are caught in inhumane traps, killed in many inhumane ways (anal electocution for one) that are crueler than neccessary because the fur must be preserved. Also there's no 'need' for fur. The synthetics we have are cheaper and warmer than fur. The ONLY reason most people wear fur is because it's a status symbol. Killing an animal for food, ok, I can see that's totally legitimate, using that anima;s skin to make durable, lasting shoes, okay, I guess (Many of these animals are killed in more 'humane ' ways, especially if it's kosher meat). but killing MANY animals to make a coat so that you can prance around in it and look rich? I don't think there's any way that's acceptable. Indigenous peoples wear fur, but many of them live in the wilds and need them, they don't have access to the synthetics we have, and they're not wearing death as a fashion statement, so that's totally acceptable, but just as a fashiion statement, I think it's gross.

And I don't think it's hypocritical to draw the line one place or another. FH doesn't eat veal or lamb, and we refuse to have either served at ur wedding, but he eats most other kinds of meat..is he a hypocrite? I don't eat any 'meat' but I eat fish, eggs and dairy. While I try to avoid it, I do have the occasional leather item, am I a hypocrite? i really don't think so. I think I'd only be a hypocrite if I were saying 'fur is so bad' and I had a fur coat, or I were telling people not to wear leather with a pair of leather shoes in my closet. you know?

I agree, for the most part.

While things may have 'gotten better' the situation for battery hens, pigs, geese, turkeys and cows is cruel and torturous. It really is the same thing - in that sense.

no seriously, and i'm guilty of this too at times, this thread began where marymoon was venting about a wedding she was going to and now all of a sudden it's turned into an animal rights debate.

whether or not you or i agree with her is irrelevant. I don't really have an opinion one way or the other, but for the purposes of this thread, i don't have to because that wasn't the intent. It was a vent, not a forum for her to be judged and have to defend herself.

And I don't buy that baloney 'if you put your feelings out there, prepare to be judged' Sometimes, we all just need to shut, listen and respond to the subject of the thread

Just like she drives a mercedes ya 1985 Mercedes that she bought like 5 years ago used. Its a piece of crap that is falling apart. It was great when my mom went and bought her 2003 mercedes. Ya its the cheaper model but She loved the car she bought it in Florida and it was cheaper then the maxima she was looking at. My mom doesn't drive it to show she has money (cause really she doesn't) but because its a nice car. SO Yes some people probably do it for status! Like my aunt. Do I hate her nope I just think she is an idiot! But anyway we all spoke our minds Thread over Ok?
