I am not saying that Stef shouldn't be mad or that I wouldn't if I was in her situation (though I never would be b/c I'm a creative moron), just that she has no legal recourse.

Re: Nothing
I found a picture of a cake online and it happened to be on the website of some cakemaker in Ohio. I then took this pic to the lady i met with to make my cake and she's going to do something similar for mine.
Am i being unethical? I don't think so. I liked the idea, and i modified it to suit my personal taste. then i asked someone else to create it for me.
Curly did the same thing .. so I don't see the problem here.

There is no fault here. It's awful Stef feels like this but it's WRONG to blame Laura. She did not STEAL anyone's idea, and w/o knowing the facts, it's wrong to say she did.

Re: Nothing
What does the legal recourse aspect have to do with this? Just because its legal does not make it right.

Nor does it make it wrong.

Re: Nothing
Stef, I'm assuming you're referring to my comment, I was just commenting that legally they do not owe you money, not that what happened was right or wrong. I didn't say what they did was right, or wrong for that matter.

Re: Nothing
I have taken pictures off of another florist's website and have given them to the florist I'm using to recreate the arrangements.
I have taken pictures of make-up and hairdos from other artists sites or ads and shown them to my hair and makeup to creat a similar look.
I have gotten photo ideas from other photographers websites and will give them to my photographer so she can take similar shots.
Are all of my vendors unethical?

Re: Nothing
Stef, the legal aspect is involved when infringement and compensation were discussed. You may not have mentioned that, but others did.

Exactly lulu, what you did, and I have done, Curly and so many other brides is common practice

Re: Nothing
lulu and sonia: I don't think your examples are unethical, b/c you're taking ideas made for profit (i.e. somebody is selling that design, and this make up look) and doing them through another vendor.
I think the difference here is that Stef wasn't out there trying to sell you her programs, if anything, she was offering the designs to brides so that they could save $. If Stef were 'selling' the programs, etc., then it would not be entirely unethical to replicate them. But I would also be upset if someone used my creation as one of their own and made $ off of it.

Re: Nothing
alina - I disagree with your distinction. Perhaps Curly wasn't comfortable making them on her own, or perhaps she just didn't want to bother. If she is entitled to use the design personally, she should also be entitled to have someone else make them on her behalf.

Re: Nothing
This is insane, I have been to tons of weddings where the brides have used programs that looked almost exactly like the one Curly posted. I will not argue that Stef had a lot of creative ideas, but I am sure a lot of them came from looking at a lot of examples. No offense, but the programs were not THAT unusual to accuse a vendor of stealing ideas for using them. Most programs are layed out exactly that way, with the bridal party and a thank you. Are you trying to copyright using engagement pics on the cover, or ribbon to hold it togeher???

Re: Nothing
I reaallly think this is getting out of hand. Stef was upset because a vendor made money off an exact duplicate of her program. That's it! Let them work it out.
Has anyone realized that there are now like 4 posts on this same subject, and Stef is really trying to keep it between the parties involved??? Let let it go for Curly's sake, Stef's sake, and for LA Productions sake.

Re: Nothing
Curly said she didn't have the time or creativity to make them. What is so wrong with her paying somebody else to do them for her? Was Stef going to make them for her? If she is so protective of her ideas she should be creating them for other brides and making a profit of it. Maybe with this Curly would of turn to Stef to making them instead of someboday else. I completely understand how Curly feels and I probably wouldn't use them either after all this stupidity.

Re: Nothing
Curly,
Oh man chica, you poor thing, this is an example as to why I don't visit these boards as much as I used to. Don't get me wrong, I met some really sweet people on this board & I got a lot of great ideas & shared some as well, but the point being that some people just take certain things to a whole other level & create stupid drama when it's not needed. I think that with possible war pending, the fact that we live day by day in fear that our city will be attacked by wackos, subways & train fares going up, bombings, deaths, distruction of rainforests, homeless people...etc... THOSE things are the things we should take to heart & realize the seriousness of. This is a place of sharing ideas & helping others, a place where we can come to & NOT take things so serious.
If Stef has an issue, she needs to call the vendor herself and not create drama over this, and sorry Ronnie&Theresa, I don't happen to agree and that does NOT make me or anyone else NUTS! That's your opinion & quite frankly one that you should keep to yourself, there's no need for name calling we're not in high-school here.
Curly, sorry you had to go through this & hopefully your vendor will not be harrassed by something you requested, you go girl!!!!

Re: Nothing
You know...Stef hasn't posted on any of these threads but for one, to try and keep it off the boards so that stuff like this wouldn't happen.
She felt slighted, mentioned it, it had nothing to do with Curly, and now Stef is getting tackled here for no reason whatsoever. This is how she felt about something she created. Why can't we just let her feel this way? Now the girl's creativity is being called into question on one of the 4 other threads created about this topic (when she has more in her pinky than a lot of us do in our entire bodies), and now she's being lambasted for bringing it up, when she is the one trying to keep it between her and LA Productions. She has said over and over that Curly has nothing to do with it.
And honestly, Theresa isn't the drama starter in this thread, so please don't start on that again. She wasn't name calling, we all need to lighten up.
Can we just leave well enough alone and stop the Friday drama????

Re: Nothing
just a thought...
I cannot comment nor do I want to comment on legal or ethical issues...but Stef has provided ALOT of brides on this board with tons of info and designs...
attacking her will only get her to stop doing this and then we all lose...
