Re: ~OFFICIAL DOUGLASTON MANOR THREAD~

hi ladies!

i got married at DM on May 16th and just wanted to share my 2 cents! FYI, i'm 'jamichael' on Project Wedding. I think a few of you have peeked in over there! feel free to check out my bio over there for pictures of my wedding.

i'm really sorry to hear about the negative experience someone had. our experience with DM was honestly very positive. sam was our banquet manager and he was very responsive throughout our planning process. he put all of my worries at ease as the day approached, and i had no complaints for him on the day of. my bridal attendant was also fantastic. she made sure that we had a chance to EAT while our food was still hot and we definitely were able to taste our yummy cake. they put two huge slices at our table for us! as far as the service, we haven't heard anything but positive feedback from our guests. if anything went wrong, no one has mentioned it to us. everyone really had a great time!

as for the set up - we had 120 people which, in my opinion, is just about the perfect number for the grand ballroom without feeling crowded. any more than 120-130 may start to feel crowded, especially if you want a lot of space for the dance floor. we used all round tables. we had our DJ set up at the top of the T and our sweetheart table was at the divider on the right side. our cake table was at the divider on the left side. i think our set up really helped connect the two parts of the room. i don't think anyone felt isolated. and with us in the middle of everything, no one ever felt intimidated about coming up to us and taking pictures with us!

we did opt for the complete package with the wedding plaza. they were ok. i think i would give them a B. i'm happy with the photos so far (our photog peter was a sweetheart and so easy to work with!) and i was satisfied with the service for the most part, but if i had to do it all over again, i may have picked different vendors. except for the limo! the limo drivers were wonderful! but i will say that if you are considering the package to save money and you know that you will have more than 100 guests, it's probably not worth it. we ended up paying a lot of additional expenses that we didn't quite expect... and if you are looking for photojournalistic style photos, definitely look elsewhere.

if anyone has any other questions, i'm at project wedding more often, so feel free to find me there!

Re: ~OFFICIAL DOUGLASTON MANOR THREAD~

Hi there. I am new to this but am a Douglaston Manor 'bride to be' as well. Not sure why Chris the BM hasn't written back about my putting down a deposit for June 2010. I'm getting paranoid! LOL

I also want the Grand Ballroom. I agree that I am concerned the T room will alienate some people. I didn't know about the round table option. I realize the oval fits more people but if I can fit the round, I will. I passed thru with my fiancee and mom and saw the really narrow oval tables and didn't like it at all. Oddly narrow!

How many weddings can go on there at the same time? Not sure I like that. I think they stagger them anyhow so there's not much overlapping.

I can afford it much better with the complete wedding package by the Wedding Plaza/Ariana Studios for the reception, DJ, Limo, invites, flowers, photography and video. I am freaked out by the photography though because I have heard some slightly bad stories and I love photography. I am a graphic designer/amateur photographer and am anal about photography. I can do a lot of the edits on my own in Photoshop. I didn't like the 'busy' digital books and lack of photojournalistic/candid shots and lack of detail/tight shots. Then again, many brides seem to choose lots of posed family pics so they weren't able to showcase their artistry. Should I be concerned?

Would love to chat with the official Douglaston Manor women. I love the place. Went there on a whim driving home from a Baptism but knew the Spanish styled Villa/Medieval look was for me with the cathedral doorways and tudor styled European look. The Grand Ballroom is amazing for a wedding and the outdoor cocktail hour overlooking Manhattan gives it that extra pizazze. Wish I could book and feel settled and more confident of the Wedding Plaza with their photography.

Hope to hear back from you gals!

Re: ~OFFICIAL DOUGLASTON MANOR THREAD~

They will reduce the price at The Wedding Plaza if you go with a different photographer? I would really love to have a photographer I know but I didn't want to pay extra to have two photographers. I am definately looking for a photojournalistic style.

Re: ~OFFICIAL DOUGLASTON MANOR THREAD~

Congratulations. By now, you are officially married and probably exhausted after a full day. Hopefully in your wedding suite. You got a beautiful day without much humidity as well! What luck!

I am having my wedding at the Douglaston Manor next May/June 2010. Would love to hear how it went and your review!

Re: ~OFFICIAL DOUGLASTON MANOR THREAD~

I'm the same weekend!

I'm September 24, 2010! I'm so excited!! We are the same weekend!

How gorgeous is that place??

And almost no one knows about it... (at least not near my neck of the woods... which is an appeal to me)

I have the grand ballroom plus the T... hopefully cocktail hour outside.... let's pray for beautiful weather that weekend!
