Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hey ladies,

I'm not having a very cultural Indian wedding. FH and I are both Christian but we would like to incorporate some of his Indian culture to our reception. I'm getting my henna done, we're having a dhol player at the reception, and I plan to change into a lenhga for the reception with all the Indian bling. Our invitations are coming from India, so that's another cultural aspect to our wedding. But I still want something else that has some culture to it.

I wanted to give bangles as a favor to the women, but I decided to do this for my bridal shower instead.

Any suggestions on what else we can add?

Buttercooky is great!! I think they do Floral Terrace's wedding cake!! I think another desi bride used them and she was very happy..

Not sure about Mint - haven't heard of anyone using them.. the big ones are Tandoor, Bukara Grll and Mughal. hth

Hello everyone!

My name is Kris and I'm recently engaged. I found this forum while doing some searching online and let me say...you ladies are a great resource! I have a couple of questions that I'm hoping for some help with.

Hi Kris - congrats on the engagement! I am indian and my DH is Irish (born and raised in Ireland). We had an indian/irish wedding in NJ back in the fall. It was mainly Indian but we incorporated some of his irish hertiage by having a bagpiper, an irish station at the cocktail hour with guiness and bangers & mash, and also gave out four leaf clover keychains as our favor.

I don't have much advice on long island venues since we got married in NJ. Sorry! Good luck with the planning and congrats again!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hi Everyone,

I just got engaged (yay) and started looking at halls. I'm pretty new to this so I could use a lot of help I'm looking for a date this Sept/Oct 2009 (I know...) so I'm trying to fast fwd all the planning- yikes!

Anway, I was wondering if anyone has ever had/attended an indian wedding @ Chateau Briand? If so...likes/dislikes?

Any other hall recommendations would be great as well. Saturday night is a must!

Thanks so much!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

I've only heard good things about Chateau Briand. For the price they offer a very good value. Plus they just renovated the outdoor area and it has a miami vibe to it.

I didn't book because I felt the room was too small for the number of guests I am expecting. And for my date they could not guarantee a room for cocktail hour in case of rain. I could potentially have ended up having the cocktail hour in the same room as the reception and that was a chance I could not take.

Likes:
-Decor
-Food (lots of choices and taste is good)
-renovated outdoor area

Dislikes:
-did not like that it was right off old country road
-very small bridal suites (but they have a room for photos that kinda makes up for it)

Overall I really like CB.

There are a TON of halls in Long Island, if you give some more specifics as to what you are looking for that will help narrow it down. Size of guest list, budget etc....

Hi Ladies,

Hope everyone is doing okay and not too stressful!

I finally have all my vendors together, after 3 months of searching and searching. I think this was the hardest part of all. If any of you ladies need information on vendors, let me know. I have spreadsheets and information.

I also found a great makeup artist, who does amazing makeup. She's really sweet and not expensive at all.

Cheers!

Hey Rosie, Who did you book for makeup?

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hi Asg450,

One of my friend refer me to her. Her company name is Glamour. Her name is Angie. She does an amazing job. She came to my house for a make up trial, which I loved as well as my bridal party. She charged me $100 for the trial and quoted me $600 for myself, my mom and two sisters for the wedding. She's also doing my bridal party for $40 each. All her makeup is top of the line.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Thanks for the advice - there are tons of places in LI, but I'm limited to a Saturday night and a place that allows Indian food. I'm inviting aout 200+ guest so a moderate budget would work for me.

CB is allowing me to have another room for an indoor cocktail hour if it rains or to avoid the Miami vibe outside (that's not what I really pictured for my wedding.)

Hey Rosie,

Does she have a website? I tried looking her up but I couldn't find anything for Glamour.

TIA

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hi Asg450,

She doesn't have a website yet but I know she is working on one from the last time I met with her. I met with her a couple of times at the Dulhan Expo. I left her number at home but you can contact her at [email protected].

She will also send you pics of the events she has done.

I personally loved her. I have a bad experience with a couple of makeup artist, such as Nina Doshi. She's very rude and never responds back to my email or phone calls. She's very rude!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Thanks Rosie.

Hey Ladies,

So I found my bridal lehenga but I'm not sure what shoes and jewelry to wear with it. My lehenga is covered in swarovski crystals, so I don't want to overdo it with the jewelry.

Are you girls wearing crazy Indian sets or simple jewelry with your Indian outfits?

Also, what type of shoes do you think you will be wearing?

TIA

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

I just went looking for jewellery for my bridal Lenga today. My outfit is heavily beaded with crystals all over so I too am unsure how over the top I want to go with jewellery.

I didnt buy today, but next time I plan on taking my dupatta with me so that I can see if the colors are an exact match. You should do this also, it helps to see it all together.

That's a good idea. Now this means I would have to wait until I get my lehenga back from India; it's going to be altered in India and I won't have my first fitting until October. I guess I'll just ask the designer what type of jewelry I should wear.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hello Everyone!
First off, congratulations on everyone's engagements and nuptials! I'm recently engaged myself and wanted to introduce myself. I'm just getting my feet wet with wedding planning and stumbled upon this website and board and am finding a lot of great information. So far, we are thinking of doing our wedding 10/31/2009 (fairly soon, I know). My FH is abroad so I'm basically planning this with my family. I was wondering if anyone had used an indian wedding planner ? Any thoughts or opinions on hiring an indian wedding planner?
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
A

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Shehnaai USA in Manhattan will be having it's clearance sale August 1st and 2nd. (received an email from them and the date on the email is June 12th and 13th). Call to find out the correct date. Just thought I would pass this along to anyone who may need a Bridal saree or lehenga.

Enjoy

Hello Brides,

Hope everybody is doing okay and planning away.

I wanted to see if anyone knew of anybody or any site that I can view for wedding invitations. I'm going crazy here trying to find invitations.

Hey Rosie,

Are you looking for Indian invitations or regular invitations? You can find some really nice Indian invitations at :
Parekh Cards
Regal Cards
My Shadi Cards
123 Wedding Cards

There is also a place in New Jersey on Oak Tree Road that sells Indian Wedding Invitations. I don't have the name on me now, but you can FM and I'll get it for you later.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

I got my invites from Parekh Cards in India. You could also try India Wedding Card.

These vendors are very easy to deal with and work with you to customize.
