Re: Paging all Latin Brides

Hey Patty, I am so happy to hear I could help. They performed at a Colombian Gala in Westbury that my mom's friend attended. She really liked them. You will not be dissapointed. You have to review them afterwards

Re: Paging all Latin Brides

Cute email I got:

In light of the latest Latina Miss Universe winner, a survey was taken on the number of Latinas who have won the Miss Universe title.

(I copied the survey below)

There has been 17 winners:

1 from Peru won in 1957
1 from Colombia won in 1958
1 from Argentina won in 1962
2 from Brazil won in 1963 and 1968
4 from Puerto Rico won in 1970, 1985, 1993 and 2001
4 from Venezuela won in 1979, 1981, 1986 and 1996
1 from Chile won in 1987
1 from Mexico won in 1991
1 from Panama won in 2002
1 from Dominican Republic won in 2003

And if you count Spain, one won in 1974.

In addition, 3 Miss USA have been Latina including Miss USA 2003.
Pageant 17 times.

Que viva las Latinas!!!!!

Re: Paging all Latin Brides

I am bumping this up b/c I wanted to talk about changing your name after the wedding.

Here is my deal and I am interested to get opinions and input on it.
Currently, I have my first name, middle name, Mom's last name Hyphen Dad's last name.

Once I get married I am dropping my mom's last name and adding FH's last name. So the last name part would be: Dad's last name hyphen FH's last name.

Should I just use my dad's last name as my middle name now or keep my middle name? Personally I prefer to keep my middle name as its my grandmother's name. If I keep my grandma's name I would be: first name, middle name, Dad's last name hyphen FH's last name. Is this too long?

Re: Paging all Latin Brides

Do you write your middle name when you sign things or just the initial? I'm planning on keeping my full name (first, middle, dad's last name) and hyphenating it with my FH's last name. BUT, if I had to spell out my middle name WOW, that's long!!
Does this help?

Re: Paging all Latin Brides

Wanda, I too think it may be a tad long.

I understand that you want to keep your grandmother's memory alive, but your whole name will be a mouthful.

Re: Paging all Latin Brides

When I sign, I tend to sign very weird. This is how it goes.
My full first name, initial of my middle name then in full mom’s last name then the initial of my father’s last name.
When I write in print I write first name, and last names only.

Re: Paging all Latin Brides

About name, somewhere I read that you don't have to change all the documents, accounts, etc if you don't want (and I don't want). I am legally for marriage issues rojas-crocker, but for when it comes to all what I have achived in the past (my career, etc) I am keeping my maiden name.

Re: Paging all Latin Brides

Hola!!! I'm new here and I think this post is great!!

My name is Tricia and I am getting married October 18th at the Grand Prospect Hall. Both my FI and I live in NYC. My mother is Mexican and my father was Korean - not exactly a full Latina, more of a mutt!! But, I speak Spanish and feel so close to the Latin culture! My FI is Italian and Russian. Its great to hear everyone else's ideas and suggestions.

Happy Planning!

Re: Paging all Latin Brides

At least you speak spanish.. I REALLY need to get that before I have kids

My parents grew up in San Antonio during a time where speaking spanish made you a second class citizen and having an accent made you cheap.

They had two kids (me and my brother) and never taught us. I soooooooooooo regret it.

Im marrying a Chinese guy. I want my kids to speak Mandrin, Cantonese and Spanish (oh and of course English). His grandmother, mother and sister all speak Cantonese & Mandrin so that's easy.. but I need to learn spanish!!!!!

It's tough cause I have a truly spanish name.. that rolls off any spanish speaking person's tongue. I even have all my accents right when I say the few words and phrases I know... *sigh*

Re: Paging all Latin Brides

Xelindra, I hear you! Entiendo casi todo in espanol pero no puedo hablar muy bien. Tengo verwensa (LOL..spelling...) I mentioned to you that I grew up in Corpus Christi...you know Selina Land. Is any one up to giving us lessons? We are what you call coconuts! The funny thing is that everyone thinks I am phillipina, hawaian, and sometimes Morrocan. I have heard it all. My FH is Jewish. So we will one day have a little jewican.
