So much drama about my wedding date.........

So much drama about my wedding date.........

I rarely post on here but I do lurk now and then, but I need to vent. I'd ask for advice but I don't really know if there is anything I can do at this point.

Basically, one of my 'friends' has been with her boyfriend a little over a year and wants to get married on our wedding date (9/20/08) because it will be their 2 year dating anniversary. We got engaged January 07 (when they had been dating just a few months) and knew we wanted to have a September wedding. Our hall was only available on certain dates, so we picked the one that worked best for us.

We didn't think it would be an issue at all, and to be honest we didn't even know that was their dating anniversary. I'm not trying to be mean but this girl has a new boyfriend every few months so we weren't expecting anything to last.

Now, THEY ARE NOT ENGAGED YET but she seems to think they will be soon (her birthday is coming up). She also wants our date and is fuming that we would get married on their anniversary. I don't know that they are going to get engaged and that they will have time to plan a September 08 wedding, but it's too late for us to really change anything. Our vendors are booked, etc.

I'm afraid she's going to get engaged and then set her date the same as ours. We have a lot of mutual friends. She's also making me feel horrible because she said even if they dont do a September 08 wedding I'm stealing her special day and their anniv will always remind them of our wedding and not themselves.

I never expected this to spiral out of control this way. Am I wrong here?

ummm...wow.
my wedding date is the wedding anniversary of a few of our guests.
none of them complained. they all said it was a 'lucky day for love'

i think your friend is being a selfish brat.

She is off her rocker....

Sorry, but you can't be expected to keep track of anyone's 'dating' anniversaries. Most of the time the only people aware of what date that would be are the couple themselves.

She's not even engaged yet! And if she has that much of an issue with your wedding being on her anniversary, she can decline the invitation and then go celebrate her anniversary elsewhere.

Don't even give a second thought to her possible wedding to be. She may not even be engaged any time soon. And god knows it takes a while to get a wedding planned...who knows if she would even be able to find a hall on such short notice.

Also, people already know you are engaged and have been planning your wedding for all this time....if she was insane enough to try to plan a wedding on the same day if she even ends up getting engaged, I'm sure your mutual friends would think 'wow, what a b*tch move on her part' and opt to go to your wedding over hers.

Honestly if they aren't even engaged yet, I would not worry. I think it highly unlikely that they would get engaged and pull all that off in time. I would not stress yourself out over this

Thank you. This is what I was hoping to hear. I'm just afraid people will think I am a brat for 'stealing' her anniversary. Her birthday is in March and she's really expecting a ring. I guess I'll just have to hold my breath until then...

Unfortunately you really learn who your friends and family are. I know it's a cliche, but it's so true.

Your friend needs to get over it, she's not even engaged!!! If she really loves you and wants to share in your joy then she needs to look past her selfish ways and pick another date...

I think that as brides, we forget that we dont own things, like halls, or favors, or flowers, halls or dates.

Shes not engaged yet. So right now, she might just be talking. Theres wedding fever...or she might feel competitive and the need to get married asap (if thats her nature)

I wouldnt take her seriously and get yourself so stressed right now...Im sure others might notice this andhave said something to her.

You are NOT stealing her date! You did what was convienent for yourself and FH and the RH. You had no idea the relationship might lead somewhere...

If she does get engaged and plans that day, be the bigger person and just congradulate her...you cant do anything to stop her from doing her own thing on that date...and think about the bright side.....You have a great family that is going to be there to celebrate with you...and dont worry...not all ur friendsa re going to jump ship...they might realize its off...and if they dont - dont worry we cant control people, just ourselves and how we react to things...

not to mention, is her BF ready for marriage? what if they cant find a hall....

theres a lot to consider in a mtter of months...she might just be jealous...

HTH!

she's a lil looney IMO

you were dating first, you got engaged and set a date that was good for the 2 of you. if she wants to be a brat thats on her.

She's jealous! Don't even think about changing OR feeling bad about it! First of all she's not even engaged...she's trying to get under your skin. Are we supposed to ask every guest to list their special dates so we don't upset them...s crew her! I really hope she's not a BM!

Wow I am so sorry that you have to deal with that...That is just ridiculously childish and immature in my opinion. Don't let her stress you out in any way.

That is absolutely horrible. She is trying to down play your day, cause its her dating anniversary?? Tough cookies, get over it... shes not even engaged!

I'm getting married on a friend's birthday. I felt a little guilty about it at first, but it was the only date that worked for us. She's invited and can celebrate with us! It totally wasn't a big deal and she's really looking forward to it.

Your friend is a bit out of control. Don't even think about changing your date for her.

wow wow wow some people are just totally off their knocker!
Seriously don't stress yourself over this crazy jealous girl... even if she happens to get engaged next month, chances are she won't be able to put a wedding together in 6 months... and if she tries you can at least sit back and watch how crazy she goes trying to plan a wedding in such a short amount of time! Also your friends will see how crazy b!tchy she is and I highly doubt any would choose to go to her wedding over yours.

I think she's a nut....We're getting married on my aunt and uncle's wedding anniversary. They were SOO happy for us. It's something we can share with them forever and it has to be good luck!!

She's just crazy!

Seriously, Laura...weird....our wedding is also the anniversary of my aunt and uncle....would have been their 50th, but my aunt passed away in november of 06. My uncle was really happy to hear that we would have the same anniversary as them and said how it would have meant so much to my aunt to have us share their day. Coincidence Date Twin!

This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard! How can anyone get mad about that??? They've only been dating A YEAR? Give me a break! That's such an immature attitude to have. No matter what date you chose is going to be somebody's SOMETHING- whether it's a birthday, anniversary, whatever... she needs to get over herself and I think you should set her straight!!!
