Spinoff to yesterdays post of the police officer that wasnt indicted...ATTN: POLICE OFFICER WIVES AND POLICE OFFICER FAMILIES
Original post by Cindy
After reading yesterdays post, it seems clear that people who do not have police officers in their family are very critical to this police officer not getting indicted or maybe police officers in general. My husband came home this morning after working 14 hours all night and told me about his grueling night. To hear such comments like a police officer shows stupidity when making a mistake or not having his wits is extremely upsetting to me when people know NOTHING about what goes into this job.
My question is: Do friends of yours who are not from a police officer family show negativity toward police or are they supportive since they are your friend?

getting days off and only being on the news for the bad is annoying, I always reply to weddings and stuff that we will both attend so far he has always gotten off but if for some reason he cannot get a day off I would attend alone or bring my mom I dont think any of our friends would mind
and Jen said about in all professions there are (I should have quoted lol , I forgot how you put it is very true!) Dr's who scam the system, commit mal practice etc..... every profession, stockbrokers has its share of wrongdoers or those accused of doing wrong

All I can say is it takes a special type of person to be married to a police officer
God Bless you all and may they always be safe
And you would know, Fire Fighter's Wife.

Does anyone know the name of that man who keeps saying about not having your gun drawn on the rooftops?
He makes me sick!

Im not a cop nor do I have cop friends or family. (that I know of)
but I honestly felt bad for this cop. I don't think he woke up and said 'lets kill someone' and I don't believe it was race driven either.
I have no negativity for cops. I find the media here (NYC area) is quick to jump on their backs.
I support cops for a very simple reason:
I don't have the BALLS to do what they do, thank GOD someone does. They deserve my respect and if I thougth I could do a better job I'd shut up and do it myself.
HOWEVER!!! I must add that I do HATE cops who obviously break the law in driving and nearly kill me. GRR (different rant)

I think most cops are under paid. I have respect for those who respect me, not the ones that are Machismo about being a cop.
I think it sucks that most cops have to deal with the **** they deal with every day. Personally cops should recieve even more training. I think cops are scared for their lives when they go into certain high crime areas. They have families, friends and a life and in one second that can all be taken away from them.'
Its so easy to pull the trigger and I don think this cop did on purpose.

I second what Michelle said, I think cops and firefighter's wives are the unsung heros. You all are so strong, I applaud all of you.

Re: Spinoff to yesterdays post of the police officer that wasnt indicted...ATTN: POLICE OFFICER WIVES AND POLICE OFFICER FAMILIES
I have friends who are NYPD, and I meet many cops at my job, and just from witnessing what they bring in, I feel bad for how hard they have it! My father is a corrections officer, and deals with these prisoners every day.
As far as this case goes, I dont know all the details as to what happened, but IMO, I am not saying that all shootings are justified or not justified, and those who arent, should be punished. However, it seems a little odd to me that when these stories come out most of these people who are shot have done one or more of the following:
1) Tried to shoot/stab/otherwise attack the officer or someone in the near vicinity
2) Are making gestures that could be percieved as threatening (pointing a black object, or otherwise appearing to have a weapon directly in the officers direction)
3) Resisting arrest (if they are so innocent, why are they running?)
4) They are entering/leaving some sort of crack house, ect
These people are not just walking down the street minding thier own business and happened to get shot. For example, shortly after the Diallo shooting, there was a drug dealer/gangbanger who was shot by the cops on the roof of a building, and Sharpton and them all came out and cried police brutality. It was PROVEN that the suspect had actually gotten ahold of one of the officers guns and shot at him (he missed). The other officer shot the suspect and killed him. You dont think that this was justified? (I mean a general YOU, not anyone in particular)
I know some will say, why must they shoot to kill them, why not just wound them? Ask any trained officer who is required to carry a gun (police or corrections, sherrifs, ect) and they will tell you, in training you are trained not to shoot if you dont have to, but if you do you shoot to kill. It is nearly impossible to have such perfect aim, that you can shoot someone in the arm, lets say, to disable them. Even with a wounded arm or leg, if they are carrying a gun, they can still kill you. It is even very possible to have a suspect with a knife kill an officer with a gun.
I hope I didnt offend anyone, just stating my opinion.

But do our friends really understand our life? I'd have to say no. No one else but another cop's wife can understand my loneliness. My fear that my son may grow up without his dad. My worry that each kiss goodbye may be the last...
I do not come from a cop's family, nor am I married to one. I have a second cousin who is a fine officier of law, and a few friends as well. But, I will never know the life you ladies lead firsthand.
I believe in my heart that it DOES take a special kind of person to marry a cop/firefighter/emergency worker. There are very real and tangible risks involved in what they do every single day, and to accept that as a 'routine' part of your life is NOT easy. One of my best friends actually turned away the man who was likely the true love of her life, b/c she did not have the strength and the confidence to marry him and live through the loneliness and worry that Jenn describes.

I am not married to a police officer but my dad was one as I had mentioned.
I know from being the daughter of a ny police officer how hard it is. How many things you have to sacrafice throughout life, I can only remember about 3 times my dad was home on Christmas with us. I remember shaking whenever the phone would ring at odd times thinking the worst all the time. My mom though, thats who had it the worst. The stories she tells me are unreal. So I know from my mom first hand what it is like and I give many kudos and blessings to all of you who do it now. Firefighters wives are the same as well. It does take a special person..very special!

My Fh is a cop and my father was a cop... I always knew I would marry a cop! I hate watching TV hearing people bash the cops.. My FH comes home every day and tells me stories about how people abuse him and are rude to him throughout the day. He has to stand there and take it because he could get is so much trouble if he did. I don't think there are many times that people thank him for what he does... instead the people where he works are always questioning what he and others are doing..it's a shame! As for friends not being understanding, one of his friends is always complaining if FH has to break plans because he has to work but oh well.. the more overtime, the better! We need a house!

Re: Spinoff to yesterdays post of the police officer that wasnt indicted...ATTN: POLICE OFFICER WIVES AND POLICE OFFICER FAMILIES
I put this post up because I have never experienced negativity about police officers from friends. If they do have any ill feelings, they have had enough respect for me to not let me hear or read them speak hurtfully about what my husband's occupation is. I consider plenty of my husband's co- workers/friends my friends also. If any one of them was in the situation as this police officer who wasnt indicted, my god, I would not call it an act of 'stupidity' or not having his wits about him. I was very surprised to hear someone I knew write this when they KNEW I was going to read this, especially when they know nothing of what goes into this stressful job. I was shocked. I just wanted to know if others have experienced this.

Cops wife here! My hubby is not a NYPD cop, but a former one. NYPD cops are definately underpaid for what they do. Even though my DH left NYPD for another police job, the hours can still be wacky at times even though the pay may be better. He still risks his life everyday! I'm definately a police supporter! I guess since those being a cops wife or family member understand what the job really intails and what it's really like can really truly understand the things that cops go through everyday. If I had the time and space to type, I could tell you girls stories!
