You know I was thinking yesterday I wouldn't be suprised depending how this ended that her husband better watch his back because I think someone might be crazy enough to try and harm him.
I read an article in the newsday yesterday about these two sons had to decide whether or not to put their 90 yr old mother on a feeding tube and they thought it was something she would not want (she had gone into dementia) and so they decided against it and appraently she was yelling 'Please I'm thirsty...I'm hungry'. It is such a terrible way to die. At least Terri will be at peace but I don't agree that this be the way she dies. It is a terrible way to suffer. I just hope she goes soon. And I hope her family will find solace.

I'm sad too but it is worse for her to continue suffering.

Re: Terry Schiavo's parents
I have so many mixed feeling on this. First of all from the parent's point of view they don't want to see their daughter die. I cannot blame them for that or for feeling that deep down in their hearts Terri would want to live. I don't blame them for still having hope, especially for her mother who gave birth to her, but on the other hand she is suffering whether there is a sliver of hope or not she will never be the same Terri she was 15 years ago. If she will live only to suffer more then it's God's will that he take her to heaven.
What I do have a problem with is the husband getting on with his life while his wife is still alive. Granted she's been in this condition for 15 years but still. I guess everyone would feel differently but I would not disrespect my spouse like that, yes I would want them to get on with life but after I am officially gone. It's disrespectful to Terri whether she's in a vegetative state or not.
I also think he may have had a part in her being in this condition but i'm not 100% sure on that because not all the pieces add up.
Is there something in writing that says she wanted to die if something like this happened to her??? If so then then she has her right to pass away in peace.

Re: Terry Schiavo's parents
There is nothing in writing because she was 26 when it happened and nobody thought about things like this. Thats why it is imperative to let your wishes be known.....no matter what your age is!!!

My cousin and his girlfriend were telling me tonight that there is something in writing but I have not heard anything. I think we would have heard it by now on the news. Whatever...he always thinks he knows everything....
I do agree that you should make your wishes known, verbally and in writing...especially in writing and it must be specific too. I've been thinking a lot about this and may have a talk with DH about this.

Re: Terry Schiavo's parents
I need to think long and hard about what I would want my family to do.
Does your spouse automatically become your legal guardian? Can u have your spouse and your parents as your legal guardians? Cuz I would want something like that.
I mean I would not want my parents and DH arguing over the choices I made regarding my right to live or not if I were in a situation like this.

Giovanna, everything you said is so on the money- I feel the exact same way. I also still feel that her parents should have been allowed to take care of her. I also feel that any money that would go to the husband should go straight to charity- not to her husband. Since he supposedly wants her to die in peace for the right reasons, he should not care if the money goes to charity and not himself right? I am sorry, but I am so suspicious of this man's motives- I just don't get a good feeling from him . . .

That's why things need to be in writing, and who knows if there was something in writing in Terri's case. For all we know there could have been something saying she would still want to stay alive and he probably destroyed it.
There should be a document made up and left with a lawyer or something. It soulds like i don't trust DH it's not that but unfortunately we live in a scary world full of Scott Petersons...and that is a reality we have to face, and if I were to make up such a document in writing where money would be involved I would want to make sure it goes to charity or if we have kids then it goes to my kids only. That way noone accuses anyone of anything and DH would not look like a monster, and I also would not want the government involved in deciding my fate. No way man! I want no courts or politicians involved...

..
He didn't destroy anything and for people to assume that is silly. Just out of curiousity..DO YOU have a health care proxy or a DNR? I bet NOT. Why would you think this woman had one....I am 31 and i don't have one. (at least not yet). This case is an eye opening experience. I bet even if she would have had one it...she would have left it as the husbands decision. But that is just a guess. And the money going to 'just your kids' well the money would be used FOR THE KIDS...to help raise them. And to say that he should be by her side not going on with his life, is silly too. He did stand by her for years, moved in with her parents to take care of her. But once he was told there is no hope. He felt having her live this way, without any possibility of getting better, was wrong and would be something she wouldn't want....
And i am sorry but 'handing' her over to the parents to take care of her....SHE ISN'T A PET. I know they love her and want to think that she will get better. But she won't. She will never live a life worth living. THey are keeping her here because they are desperate and they are listening to DOCTORS WHO WANT MONEY. Putting her through all this experimental BS...So they can get money and fame To me THAT is SICK part. These doctors playing on the parents desperation....SICK AND WRONG!
