[[ * updated * ]] my 2nd class wedding

Original post by MrsK2008

I have come to realize that we just don't have enough money to throw a decent affair. I am not complaining, I am just being honest.

Yesterday and friend of mine told me,'flowers are what make a wedding special and beautiful.'

WE'RE NOT HAVING FLOWERS!!

If we put a floral CPs on our table it will take away money from our honeymoon, it's as simple as that.

I can't win.

I am scared of being ridiculed and humiliated by avid NY wedding goers, seriously I lose sleep over this.

I really want to tell everyone in advance to give me a break, we did the best we could on our blue collar salaries

the end

*******update**********

here is a photo of the crystal bowl we are using on our tables. I have class, I just don't want to spend a butt load of money on flowers because they die!

You dont need flowers! If you really want, do what Im doing. Im ordering bunches of tulips and sticking them into bud vases. Im not even doing it to save money- im doing it cus I dont want traditional centerpieces. But yes- it is saving me money. Your wedding will be great! And do what you want to do not what you think people want you to do!

here is a pic of what Im doing. Its mostly candles. You can buy them online in bulk. This is a sample table my mom and I set up.

that is very nice!

Oh please, you don't need flowers. Your wedding will be beautiful with or without flowers. There are many candle centerpieces that are more beautiful then flower centerpieces. Your wedding is definitely not 2nd class!!!!

thats crazy! my cousin had a lavish wedding...about $300 per person. at thanksgiving, she was talking about her centerpieces and another of my cousin goes 'you had centerpieces?'. the look on her face...hahah. but yeah, no one will remember, no matter what the cost. dont worry about it. my other cousin didnt have the funds for flowers so she bought small vases from ikea and cut roses herself the night before. it was fine and no one cared! we stil had a great time!

I went to a wedding about 1 year ago - and had a GREAT time, one of the best weddings I've been to - the DJ rocked...ne ways, long story short, someone said something like 'she didnt have flowers on the table' And I was like 'HUH?'

BOTTOM LINE.....................

Ppl wont even notice...

did your 'friend' know that you were not having flowers ? if so, nice friend !
Don't even give it a second thought, everything is going to be perfect reagrdless because you are getting married to the man u love. F everyone else and their opinions , as long as you 2 are happy !

may I say that I am more likly to remember a centerpice that is different. If its just a normal regualr one, Ill prolly think it is very pretty, but wont remember it. If you do something different, Ill remember it for years!!! My cousin did tall rounded vase like things with floating flowers and candles and everything was different heights and i remember it cus it was unique.

Your wedding will be gorgeous & who will even notice flowers when you are dancing all night - lol... Seriously, you can find some very nice, affordable CP's (floating candles, stones in glass dishes, etc...) and, you could even sell these after the wedding!!!

EVERYONE will have an opionion. You & FH are what matter and just make sure you'll have a great day for YOU & don't let $$ or anyone's opinions get in the way of your day!!

I agree- you don't have to have flower CP's!

Some of the most beautiful (and inexpensive!) CP's I have seen have candles.

I hate when people are so insensitive like that!

Who cares what everyone else thinks. its your dayq and unless everyone else is paying for it then do it your way!!

yeah yeah yeah...........seriously it isn't my day I just happen to be paying it for it through the nose

DONT feel that way! i did too. we couldnt affors 200 bucks per cp and it was just obsence. So we DIYed it. And you know what? They looked FINE. Maybe not the tall expensive fancy pants cpc, but not one eprson criticized them and I have MANY critics in my fam!

It matched our affair. You can buy plain roses or a few calla lillies or whatever pretty flower is in season during your month and put a few in a vase.

Or do as other girls suggested and just do candles.

Re: my 2nd class wedding

i'm most likely not doing flowers (i only say most likely just because we haven't finalized everything yet). honestly the flower ideas i liked were REALLY simple (one flower floating in a square vase, three-four vases per table) but also REALLY expensive (maybe not compared to other people, but at 20-35 per piece, it adds up). we can get the same effect with candles for 1/4 of the price, and that's what we're doing.

if you like it and it works for you, go for it. i honestly could care less about impressing people, i'd rather me and fh be happy. besides, it's not about the party, it's about your marriage and if people can't appreciate that, then screw 'em!

You dont need CPs! Candles around the table and flower petals are beautiful enough. No one is really going to noice if you have flowers after the first 5 mins, because they will have all eyes on you and your FH!

You have nothing to worry about! Some of the most beautiful centerpieces Ive seen dont even include flowers!

Re: my 2nd class wedding

Actually, one of the nicest centerpieces - maybe the NICEST actually - was at a wedding I attended last November. The Grooms mom made them. They were small (inexpensive) ceramic pumpkins filled with some fake/dried flowers, surrounded by a few votives. I wish I had won it!
