Tom Cruise may have found a way to keep Katie Holmes from violating the precepts of Scientology and shrieking in pain when she gives birth to their child.
It's a specially crafted adult pacifier, reports Star magazine.

'He commissioned an adult-sized 'binky' for her to clench between her teeth, hoping that it'll squelch her screams,' a source tells the mag. 'In keeping with a Scientology silent birth, Tom is prepared to do whatever it takes to muffle Katie's moans and groans during the delivery.'

Cruise's PR rep, Arnold Robinson, denied the existence of an adult pacifier. As for its manufacture, a spokeswoman for NYU's School of Dentistry told Lowdown: 'We haven't heard of it, but it doesn't mean a dentist wouldn't do it.'

Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, who died in 1986, discouraged painkillers during delivery and preached that birth should be silent to 'save both the sanity of the mother and the child and safeguard the home to which they will go.' The Scientology.org Web site explains: 'Having a quiet, gentle birth is all about providing the best possible environment for the birthing mother and her new baby.'

The alleged pacifier, which is reportedly made of plastic and molded to perfectly fit the 27-year-old Katie's mouth, could be deployed very soon. Cruise recently told a German television interviewer: 'Katie could be having our baby at any minute.'

And the 43-year-old Cruise - who three years ago spent several months wearing braces - likely knows a friendly orthodontist who could help get such a contraption made.

Star also reports that Holmes - with Scientology minder Jessica Rodriguez often at her side - has been spending long days at the Celebrity Centre in Hollywood and is under pressure to renounce her Catholic upbringing and fully embrace Scientology.

Eminem has filed for divorce from wife Kimberley Mathers — again — after just 82 days of marriage!

A source close to the rap giant tells Star that divorce papers — under his birth name Marshall Bruce Mathers III — were filed on his behalf on the morning of April 5, at the Macomb County (Mich.) Clerk's office.

Star broke the world-exclusive story last September that the troubled couple (who first wed in 1999, then divorced in 2001) would remarry again in January 2006 — which they did, on the 14th at Meadow Brook Hall in Rochester Hills, eleven miles north of their suburban Detroit home.

Eminem, 33, and Kim, 31, have a daughter, Hailie, 10. He also adopted Kim's daughter Whitney, 3, from another relationship, and they've been sharing their home with Kim's niece, Alaina, 12.

As Star previously reported, Eminem's grandmother has said she believes the couple did not have a prenup.

With fiancée Katie Holmes close to giving birth, Tom Cruise has admitted his own father was no role model.

Speaking to Parade magazine, Cruise – who has two children with ex-wife Nicole Kidman – said of his father, Thomas Cruise Mapother III, 'He was a bully and a coward – the person where, if something goes wrong, they kick you. … It was a great lesson in my life, how he'd lull you in, make you feel safe and then, bang!'

Cruise, 43, says, 'For me it was like, 'There's something wrong with this guy. Don't trust him. Be careful around him.' There's that anxiety.'

When Cruise was 12, his mother left his father, taking Cruise and his sister Lee Anne with her. The actor tried for a reconciliation 10 years later, when his father 'was in the hospital dying of cancer, and he would only meet me on the basis that I didn't ask him anything about the past.'

It's official: Meredith Vieira will replace Katie Couric on the Today show, Vieira announced Thursday on The View.

'I've spent nine wonderful years on this show,' said Vieria, who got teary making the announcement. 'If you're going to grow, you have to change. I'm very honored that NBC has asked me to cohost the Today show. I'm thrilled, I'm really thrilled.'

Vieira, 52, has been one of the cohosts of The View since its debut in 1997. She also hosts Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

On Wednesday, Couric announced that she was leaving the Today show next month to join CBS news. She'll become anchor and managing editor of the CBS Evening News in September, and will contribute to 60 Minutes. Vieira is a former 60 Minutes correspondent.

'We have had the most wonderful nine years with you and we love you very much,' Barbara Walters said to Vieria on Thursday.

Another View cohost, Joy Behar, told her, 'I'm miserable that you are leaving.'

Vieira is expected to join Matt Lauer on Today in September. Her reported salary has been estimated at $10 million a year.

'I have been her fan for years and I can't wait to be her partner,' Lauer said Thursday. 'She has the perfect background and personality to make a real mark on this show and in morning news in general. I'm thrilled to welcome her aboard.'

Before joining The View, Vieria spent nearly 20 years as a news correspondent, much of that time at CBS News. Over her career, she has won eight Emmy awards.

She is married to fellow journalist Richard Cohen, who suffers from multiple sclerosis – which Vieria has often spoken about publicly. (In 2004 Cohen wrote a book, Blindsided, about his battle with MS, as well as with colon cancer.) The couple have three children, Lily, 13, Gabriel, 14, and Benjamin, 17.
