It's simply over for The Simple Life as far as FOX is concerned, with the network announcing Wednesday that it was yanking the Paris Hilton-Nicole Richie reality series after the show's two stars no longer proved compatible.

Though FOX had renewed the contracts of the feuding ex-friends for a fourth go-round, 'We did not see a place for The Simple Life on our schedule this season,' said a network statement, the Associated Press reports.

Not that the move necessarily spells the death of the show.

'We're disappointed that The Simple Life will not continue on FOX where it has performed so well,' 20th Century Fox Television, which produces the series, said in its own statement, adding that it still considers the show 'a dynamic and valuable franchise, (and) we hope to be able to announce a new network partner in the coming days.'

In April, PEOPLE reported that the rift between Hilton and Richie had escalated into an all-out war. 'It's no big secret that Nicole and I are no longer friends,' Hilton said in a statement. 'Nicole knows what she did, and that's all I'm ever going to say about it.'

A source close to the hotel heiress told PEOPLE that Richie was jealous of the media attention her blonder costar received and resented being left out of things such as Hilton's February hosting gig on Saturday Night Live. The source also said Richie tried to get even for that perceived slight by throwing a party to celebrate the SNL stint and then screening Paris's infamous 2003 sex video instead.

'Paris was very hurt,' said the source. 'She loves Nicole but believes she is owed an apology.' Reps for Richie denied the screening incident.

Simultaneously, Richie's friends told PEOPLE that tensions arose because Nicole had grown out of her wild ways, quitting drinking and spending more time with her fiance, Adam Goldstein. 'She just wants to be with Adam and get married,' said one.

Last spring, Hilton had lobbied for Richie to be replaced by Rod Stewart's 26-year-old daughter, Kimberly, but FOX reportedly turned a cold shoulder to the suggestion.

Richie, the 24-year-old daughter of Lionel Richie, became engaged to Goldstein (known as DJ AM) in February. Hilton, 24, earlier this month called off her engagement to Greek shipping heir Paris Latsis.

Tori Spelling's estranged husband, Charlie Shanian, has filed for divorce from the former Beverly Hills, 90210 star, just 15 months after their lavish $1-million wedding.

Shanian, 39, is seeking spousal support from Spelling, 32, according to the divorce papers, filed Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court and obtained by PEOPLE. He also asked that Spelling be blocked from asking for spousal support, and that she pay for his attorney fees.

Blossom Star Mayim Bialik Has Baby Boy

Mayim Bialik, star of the '90s show Blossom, and her husband, Michael Stone, are parents of a baby boy, born Tuesday, the actress's rep tells PEOPLE exclusively.

'Mother and baby are both fine,' says the rep. This is the couple's first child.

Blossom, on which Bialik played the wholesome Blossom Russo, debuted in 1991 and ran until 1995. After the show went off the air, Bialik, now 29, went through a rebellious phase, she told PEOPLE in 2000 – the same year she graduated from UCLA.

The San Diego native also went on to work on a Ph.D. in neuroscience – and met Stone at school.

Meanwhile, back home in Ohio, Holmes' father, Martin, is reportedly extremely displeased that his daughter is pregnant without the benefit of first swapping vows, according to Life & Style magazine.

The magazine reports that the strict Catholic scolded the actress upon learning of her pregnancy, before telling Cruise, 'You're no good!' The grandfather-to-be also reportedly demanded that the pair wed soon.

In other reports, when it comes time for the actress to give birth in several months, it has been suggested that Holmes will attempt a silent labor in keeping with Scientology tradition.

For two people who insist they're just pals, Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn seem to spend a lot of time examining each other's tonsils. People reports the 'Break-Up' co-stars were joined at the lips in Chicago on Tuesday, when Jen turned up to watch Vince perform in his Wild West Comedy Show tour.

The former Mrs. Brad Pitt, 36, who has attended the show twice before (and has been photographed wearing a tank top promoting the tour), reportedly enjoyed the comedy stylings from the balcony of the Vic Theatre, and yukked it up especially hard as Vaughn, 35, ran a clip from his long-ago appearance in an After School Special on sex.

That scene must have set just the right mood, because at a post-performance party, the PDA-prone pair was spied 'dancing, eyes locked, before kissing and making out as bodyguards shooed the crowd away,' says the mag.

Need more details on the doting duo? Vaughn wrapped one of his manly mitts around Aniston's itty-bitty waist and drew her close, telling his buddies, 'She's the best!' as he caressed her back. Later, he bussed her forehead before the two tangled tongues.

While Aniston and Vaughn have repeatedly laughed off romance rumors, this isn't the first time they've been spotted engaging in a public round of smoochies.

At the 'Break-Up' wrap party back in August, they became increasingly close as the night wore on, according to the New York Daily News, first touching digits and later putting their 'arms around each other. Then they were dancing. Then they were 'I-want-to-rip-your-clothes-off' dancing. Then they were straight making out.'

At the time, Aniston's rep pooh-poohed to People, 'At the wrap party ... everyone was enjoying themselves, cast and crew included, and they were all being very affectionate to each other.'

But a few weeks before the film's farewell fete, Vincifer -- or Vaughniston (take your pick, 'cause they're both as annoying as Brangelina) -- were spotted snuggling up at her hotel, with one onlooker observing to People that they 'looked very cozy and familiar,' with her head on his shoulder and his arm across her neck. The actress' spokesman insisted 'nothing romantic' was going on.

When asked by Elle about the Vaughn wooing whispers, Aniston repeated that the actor was just a friend, although she did cop to him being 'delicious and funny. He's got all the colors of the rainbow.'

Vaughn, in turn, called her 'so genuine and warm, and she has a lightness, a classy ease about it all. You can see why people are so enamored. It's like she's stuffed with Elvis dust.'

But, Jennifer said, 'I don't want to be a rebound girl. I feel like it will happen when it happens.'
