Laguna Beach stars Lauren 'L.C.' Conrad and Jason Wahler have split up, PEOPLE has confirmed.

'Its true. Lauren broke up with him last week,' Conrad's rep, Nicole Perez, tells PEOPLE.

Being single isn't slowing Conrad down a bit: The 20-year-old, who now appears on The Hills, took a trip to Las Vegas last weekend with her girlfriends, including Hills pal Heidi Montag.

Meanwhile, Wahler, 19, partied in Los Angeles over the weekend at Les Deux with Laguna pal Stephen Colletti. Wahler, wearing Adidas track pants and a t-shirt, got wild on the dance floor, according to a source.

'He was all over the place,' says an onlooker, 'Every time I saw him, he was talking to a different girl.'

Wahler's partying ways contributed to the couple's breakup, a source tells PEOPLE.

This is not the first time they've split. The pair broke up last August, then reunited. 'We're pretty serious now,' Conrad told PEOPLE in May.

As for the future, Conrad plans to return to L.A.'s Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in the fall, and will film a second season of The Hills.

Brittany Murphy and Joe Macaluso, engaged since last New Year's Eve, have broken off their engagement, PEOPLE has learned exclusively.

The two 'have amicably ended their engagement. They remain close friends and wish each other much happiness,' a rep for Murphy tells PEOPLE.

Last Sunday, Murphy showed up at the Teen Choice Awards without her engagement ring. Asked about her wedding plans in the press room, the actress became evasive before saying, 'Everything is going wonderful, thank you. I'm just living every moment, you know, enjoying my day.'

Murphy, 28, who had met Macaluso – who is a best boy grip responsible for lighting and electricity on a movie set – while filming Little Black Book. After that film wrapped production, she asked him to the movies for their first date.

The couple went on 17 dates before they shared their first kiss. They became engaged on Dec. 31, 2005.

'It felt right,' the actress told PEOPLE in January. 'I love being in love.'

It was the second engagement for Murphy, who was previously set to marry wed manager Jeff Kwatinetz.

'The couple is thrilled about the news,' says the rep.

The couple already have a son, 8-year-old Christian, and Combs has another son, Justin, 12, with fashion stylist Misa Hylton-Brim.

The record mogul and hip-hop performer, 36, also runs the men's fashion company Sean John and recently launched his own fragrance, Unforgivable. His new album is due out in October.

Combs and Porter, 35, first began dating in the nineties. They split in 1999. However, the couple later reconciled and Combs told PEOPLE in March 2003, 'My love life is straight. I'm back with Kim.'

Paris Hilton: My Album's So Good, 'I Cry'

Paris Hilton is releasing her album Paris on Tuesday, though for the 25-year-old hotel heiress, socialite and star of The Simple Life, making music is nothing new, she reveals.

'When I was little,' she tells Blender magazine for its September issue, she was forced to practice piano, violin and guitar 'every day ... since I was 11. My mom made me.'

All the practice seems to have paid off: Of her new album, she tells the magazine: 'I, like, cry, when I listen to it, it's so good.'

Already, her breathy, reggae-infused single 'Stars Are Blind' has climbed to the top of Billboard's dance music chart, and her producers are waxing enthusiastic about how hard-working Hilton is.

'She would sit for hours and not ask for a break, and she never gave me one bit of attitude,' says Kara DioGuardi, who worked on three tracks with Hilton (and whose credits include Ashlee Simpson's 'Pieces of Me').

Hilton says she had DJs at clubs play cuts from the album without revealing the artist, to test reactions.

'People go crazy,' she says. 'They love it. Everyone's like, 'Who is this?' I don't tell. Because I don't want someone putting their phone up and recording it and making a ring tone off of it. I think when people don't know it's me, they won't judge it. But if they know it's me, then they'll be like, 'Ugh.' They won't even dance.'

Hilton, who recently told British GQ magazine that she was taking a vow of chastity for a year ('I'll kiss, but nothing else'), also tells Blender that she's just a girl who can't say no – when it comes to the constant attention from fans asking for pictures and autographs.

'I think people expect me to be this ***** snob,' she says. 'But I'm really nice, and I feel bad if I'm mean.'

Tom Cruise Fired by Paramount

Tom Cruise and Paramount Pictures have ended their 14-year professional relationship, with the studio blaming Cruise's recent controversial behavior for the split.

Sumner Redstone, chairman of Paramount Pictures parent company Viacom, told the Wall Street Journal Tuesday that the studio would not renew its contract with Cruise's Cruise/Wagner Productions.

'It's nothing to do with his acting ability, he's a terrific actor,' Redstone said. 'But we don't think that someone who effectuates creative suicide and costs the company revenue should be on the lot.'

Cruise starred in Paramount hits including Mission: Impossible, Top Gun and Days of Thunder, and has based his production company on the Paramount lot since 1992, the Journal reports.

But in the past year, he's made headlines by promoting Scientology, jumping on Oprah Winfrey's couch to declare his love for Katie Holmes and attacking the use of antidepressants for postpartum depression.

'As much as we like him personally, we thought it was wrong to renew his deal,' said Redstone. 'His recent conduct has not been acceptable to Paramount.'

Cruise's production partner, Paula Wagner, fired back, telling PEOPLE in its new issue that Redstone's comments were 'undignified, outrageous and untrue.' She said she and Cruise would set up their own Wall Street-financed operation.

Cruise's agent, Rick Nicita, told the Journal that Cruise was 'offended' by Redstone's remarks. 'This was done in an incredibly graceless way,' he said.

Wagner told the Associated Press that agents for Cruise/Wagner Productions stopped negotiating with Paramount more than a week ago and had since secured independent financing.

She said she and Cruise had been considering taking their company independent 'for a long time. For us, this is a very new and exciting direction. We look forward to working with all the studios.'

Says Variety editor-in-chief Peter Bart: '(The split) is a challenge for (Tom) to get on with his career. … It's like a call to arms for him.'

I do NOT agree with Tom Cruise and his beliefs and craziness. But isn't that kinda illegal and unfair to not renew someones contract becuase of something they believe.

Movie houses have been s c r e w i n g over stars for years. Personally, they have the right to protect whats theirs. Like I have said before, Tom can start his own production company. I do not feel sad or bad for him at all.

`Apprentice' Figure Carolyn Kepcher Axed

Carolyn Kepcher, who sat by while her boss Donald Trump dismissed one would-be apprentice after another, has now felt the full force of his iconic phrase: 'You're fired.'

Kepcher, a co-star with Trump from the start of 'The Apprentice' in 2004 and a long-time employee of the Trump Organization, has been let go.

'Mr. Trump wishes her the best,' said Trump spokesman Jim Dowd, who confirmed she is no longer with the company. She had been chief operating officer of two of Trump's golf courses.

Her leave-taking will have no impact on the upcoming sixth season of 'The Apprentice,' originating for the first time from Los Angeles. Though production is completed, she was not part of the cast.

Kepcher's dismissal was first reported in Thursday's New York Post.

The slender, striking blonde had become familiar to viewers as one of Trump's two sidekicks on the NBC series. She was an adviser to one of the rival teams and was often seated beside Trump for boardroom sessions where one or more competitors would hear Trump declare, 'You're fired.'

The Post story attributed Kepcher's firing to excessive self-promotion as a star at the expense of her performance at her day job, an account echoed for The Associated Press by a person close to the situation. The person insisted on anonymity because it was a personnel matter.

Kepcher could not be immediately located for comment.

Since TV fame beckoned, Kepcher has been active with speaking engagements, made a number of talk-show appearances and two years ago wrote a book, 'Carolyn 101,' which promised to reveal the secrets of her success and give readers guidance for their professional lives.
