PLS READ - Need Help Make A Decision!

I have not been out all day...but, have plans tonight to get together for dinner w/my friend and her Mom and me and my Mom. We are meeting up in Nassau, which means I'm the only one that has a long drive (on the highway).

Can anyone tell me if it's really bad out there with this wind? The weather reports keep saying that the highways are most dangerous...should I risk it? I don't want to cancel b/c we have re-scheduled several times already...what should I do???

Any advice from anyone that's been out driving on the highway recently would be helpful! Thanks!

my mom always says: go with your instinct.
so if you feel uncomfortable don't go.
on the other hand...
i was just outside (in manhattan)
and it is very windy. but manageable. i don't really understand the connection to it being windy and dangerous to drive...?
except maybe for trees and power lines falling...??

i agree if you really don't feel comfortable don't go. better safe than sorry.

as far as the connection to driving, if you have an suv especially high winds can cause you to lose control b/c of the pulling back and forth. if you've ever driven one i'm sure you know what i mean. also on bridges the crosswinds are really dangerous.

I agree go with your gut.. I'd like to add in the city although wind tunnels exist.. it's less windy and managable with buildings to block it.. on a highway they come sudden and forceful.

Ive been sitting here at home Nassau.. and the wind gusts have died down a bit.. but when they hit.. man im glad im inside.

I was out on Sunrise Highway at 1:30 - 2:30, and my car is usalyy all over the road in the wind, and I didn't think it was that bad at. I don't know if it has gotten worse from then though.

DH is on his way home from the city, on the LIE. He said he had absolutely no problem today. It sounds like the side roads may be more of an issue-with branches or garbage cans blowing around.

Go with your gut, and if you do go just take it easy. Do you drive an SUV? Usually the higher profile vehicles get blown around a little (more so than a car).

I was on Sunrise in the hamptons at 3:00 and I thought it was pretty bad and I am NEVER a nervous nelly, but I was like 'GEEXZ!' There are warnings in effect until 12 midnight, I justr called DH to tell him to be careful coming home. My teakwood bench just blew over! that's how intense it is here!

I'm in Old Westbury right now and it seems as though it's worse now than it was earlier. I have to drive home to Lake Ronkonkoma on the LIE. As it is my car was blowing around this morning. It's up to you and how comfortable a driver you are.

Its alot owrse now than it was earlier. I told Danielle not to come over after work because the weather is supposed to get really bad later. I now hear it may snow later, but I dont think its cold enough. The weather said that the wind is up to 51 MPH in some parts of Nassau County. They were showing some trees down, and said some areas have lost power. If I was you I would reschedule.

Claud - i just drove from Stony Brook to Babylon and it was BAD!!!!! my little toyota was all over the place. when i drove this morning, it was kinda iffy, but it has definitely gotten worse.
