I'd say a cruise. They leave from NYC harbor (so you don';t need to buy plane tix) and can be a lot of fun and very inexepensive. I'd recommend Royal Carribean. Either that or try www.site59.com -- it's a great site for last minute vacations at a great rate.

Royal Caribbean has four and five night cruises for that price. You'd have to stick to a four nighter when you take airfare into account.

You could also do a weekend at Mohonk Mountain House, which is beautiful!!!

A bed and breakfast. I am looking into doing this for my parents. They have some really nice ones out East. You can do a weekend for that price.

Double Tree Inn and Spa in Newport Rhode Island. We sent my parents there for their 25th anniversary. It was like $200 for the weekend and it came with 2 1/2 hour massages.

Are they beachy people? What about Ocean City MD. I'd say you could send them almost anywhere in driving distance, air fare takes up a large portion of the budget.

How about a ski trip in Vermont or upstate NY. Do they like big cities- like Boston.

We just went to a wedding last weekend and the couple gave their parents gift certificates from giftcertificates.com. I am not familiar with that website really, but another guest told me that the website has B&B all over the place. They gave them the gift certificates for a specific dollar amount and told them to go on a vacation with it. It was such a nice idea- I am going to look into it for my parents...

Poconos, Eastern Long Island-montauk, shelter island, etc., B oston, Florida.

Look in the travel section of the paper and find specials from Liberty travel to places like the Dominican Republic.
