Who are your readers for the ceremony? Family, friends, members of your BP?

I am not very close to members of my family (I have no brothers or sisters, and my extended family is so large, that we are not close, and I am much younger than most of my cousins).

Anyways, I asked a few of my very dear aunts, but they are terrified of public speaking. The one cousin I would definately ask is not sure if she'll even be able to make it to the wedding (she might be in labor )...so, I'm left with a choice, do I ask two of my very best friends (who are in my BP)....

Or do I ask two cousins who are not close with me at all, but they're still family (I see maybe once a year, but rarely talk to them).

Re: Who are your readers for the ceremony? Family, friends, members of your BP?

we ha da lot of trouble with this one.
originally we were going to only ask tom's godmother who is his aunt. she is a very special person in his life and she loves him dearly and takes a lot of pride in the fact aht she is his godmother.
when i mentioned it to my mother, she was wondering if our side of the family would also be represented in the reading department.
so i searched through all of my family memeber, and there was no one i could choose without offending someone else, and so i started to feel that we were picking someone just for the sake of having a second reader.
so long story short, we're having one reader - Tom's godmother!
We're going to ask her to be a part of our wedding on Christmas this year.....as part of her gift

Re: Who are your readers for the ceremony? Family, friends, members of your BP?

We are asking my FI's dad and my aunt. We figured his dad because everyone else really has a special part in the wedding. My mom and dad are walking me down the aisle and his mom get's a special dance with my FI. My aunt is my godmother also and even though we are not that close I feel I should ask her. Good Luck!

Re: Who are your readers for the ceremony? Family, friends, members of your BP?

I think that most people ask family or friends to include other people in the ceremony, but if there's no one who's special to you outside of those girls in your BP, then ask them.

We're having my best friend (we met at her bachelorette party Thank goodness for the Boardy BArn ), FH's dad and my brother. This way all of our immediate family members are somehow involved.

We're also doing a unity candle lighting during the ceremony so that both our mom's are involved.

Re: Who are your readers for the ceremony? Family, friends, members of your BP?

We had some trouble picking these. There were so many people to choose from and I didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings by not involving them. But we had to choose, so we picked, my aunt/godmother for one and my other aunt for the other. I wanted FH to ask someone in his family to do it, but he is not really close to them and didn't want them involved. I just hope my other aunt and uncle are not insulted we didn't chosse them for anything. I am trying desperately for something for them to do, but we pretty much have everything taken care of.

We are having our priest do the readings. My family is the same way with speaking in public. I am usually the one who will do readings for other family members because it does not bother me. And most of Dale's family can't speak english so they are out.

Re: Who are your readers for the ceremony? Family, friends, members of your BP?

If your FI doesn't have anyone in his family to do it I would just go with your 2 best friends in the bp. I felt the same way about asking relatives that I wasn't close to.

We chose his godmother who has no problem speaking in public but we had a hard time picking someone from my side. I wanted to pick someone outside the bp but everybody I asked was afraid of doing it. I ended up asking a friend of mine from college to do the 2nd reading (she's a teacher & didn't mind public speaking) & then we had my SIL (who was in the bp) do the Prayer of the Faithful b/c my DH did it at her wedding. If my friend had also said no, we were just going to ask my SIL to do the 2nd reading.

Re: Who are your readers for the ceremony? Family, friends, members of your BP?

I am asking a good friend of mine to do one reading. I was actually in her wedding party 4 years ago but after she got married we lost touch for awhile. (I would call her every so often after she got married and she would never call me back so I stopped calling her.

However, I wanted her to be part of it somehow, and I asked her to do a reading. She does them at Church normally and would have no problem getting up and speaking in front of the Church participants. And it's funny, I think she realizes why I didn't ask her to be in the BP and she's been more active in helping me plan the wedding, asking me what she can do for me, etc. My own BP while we all get along haven't been this helpful!

And FH's aunt will do the other reading and one of my cousins will do the responsorial psalm and if we have a prayer of the Faithful, I would like a mutual friend of ours (she and her FH introduced me and my FH) to do it.

BTW, I am not close to my cousin either but I figure it's nice to include extended family in my wedding in some way.

Jen, I hope you dont mind the suggestion but maybe you can have one of the readings done in your FH's home language? You can have the reading reproduced in your wedding program and have it in English and in the other language. I bet his family would love it.

my bridesmaids are doing the readings
just figured less people to have to deal with - and they would have to be at the rehearsal anyways - so i might as well make them useful -
