Hair loss after pregnancy...

My little angel was born just over three months ago, and now I find that I'm losing my hair in large quantities. I know that this is normal during this time, but is there anything that you ladies took to help stop the loss (if possible)????

Re: Hair loss after pregnancy...

This happned to my sister in law. During pregnancy you grow so much hair becuase of the prenatal vitamins you are on. You glow, right. Your nails grow, its great! :) Well once you get off of them, you shed some of that beautiful hair. That is what I was told. My sister in law freaked out and was told it was normal!

Re: Hair loss after pregnancy...

I know this happened to several friends of mine, but I haven't gone through it (yet). If anything, my hair has been growing like weeds lately, and I finished my pre-natals about 2 weeks ago -- I'm only taking my regular multi vitamins now!

Don't worry, it's totally normal. Another wonderful thing for us women to go through!

Re: Hair loss after pregnancy...

I lost a ton of hair after pregnancy -- But I had gotten so much ' extra' hair during the 9 months -- that it did not make a difference -- It came out in clumps in the shower -- I was very scared -- But Dr. told me it was normal -- and it stopped after a few weeks! Hang in there -- you will not go bald!!

Re: Hair loss after pregnancy...

Yep!! I've been there. Right about the three month mark, I starting losing my hair and Luke lost his newborn hair. The good news is that although he went bald, I didn't. It probably feels like you are losing an alarming amount but it is very normal. Very few women end up with permanent hair loss. The loss has nothing to do with prenatal vitamins, it's all hormone related. It is normal for every person (non-preg) to go through periods of hair growth and also a resting phase. When you are preggo, because of hormones your growth stage kicks into high gear. After you have the baby, the reverse happens and your hair goes into a serious resting stage, which is when hair loss occurs. I know about hair loss from before I was pregnant because I had a condition a few years ago where my hair was falling out.

It takes time for your body to get back to normal after the birth of a child in so many ways, probably longer than you think. Unless your hair is literally falling out in chunks where you are seeing bald spots, I would *try* not to get worried about it. But I went through the worry myself because it really seemed like alot. Hope this helps.
