Re: whats a good town in nassau county in the $300's ????

Decent houses in the $300Ks in Nassau are pretty hard to find in LI. We are currently looking in LI and it seems like decent houses in the $400Ks are even getting hard to find!!!!! I can't wait until this seller's market ends (it has to happen eventually!!!!!!!)

I'd suggest going to MLSLI.COM and put it your price range and see what towns come up. Then, use their neighborhood info tab to get more information. Once you've narrowed down towns, start driving around. Although it is time consuming, it is the best way to get to know the areas.

NLSLI is a great resource!
we used it all the time when looking for our co-op....
drive around...
go to open houses....
check in the paper.
try not to get your heart set on one town though, becuse chances are good you may not find anything there - so remain open to different places!
good luck!
when are you two going to start looking??

That is a tall order in this market. You may want to focus on good grammer schools and buy a 'starter' house (if there is such a thing anymore) and build up equity and you could move to a town down the road with better high schools later. I know it is not ideal but as Mary said even in the $400k range they are hard to find.

We bought our house in the $300s in Massapequa Park, Massapequa school district, which is supposed to be great. It was the only area with a good school district that we could half afford!

Re: whats a good town in nassau county in the $300's ????

I'd look in East Meadow, Levittown, Wantagh, Seaford, Massapequa and Massapequa Park. Great neighborhood and great schools. They do alot for the kids. I'd suggest a small starter home like a ranch that you could always build up later. The ranch is the easiest to expand on. Usually they have really big nice basements too.

Good Luck! IF you want the name of a reputable buyers broker, just FM me.

Unfortunately, I don't think any exist, even in the towns listed I feel like a Nassau County RE expert by now!

From what we've seen, the going rate for a starter cape is at LEAST $375K and upwards of $425K and up in the nicer towns.

Re: whats a good town in nassau county in the $300's ????

An idea may be to go just over the border in to suffolk. You can try lindenhurst or babylon, the schools are pretty good and they are right near SSP. And right near the LIRR if thats a concern.

Good Luck!
