Mother of Bride/Groom Dress Color?
What color is the mother of the bride and mother of the groom's dress supposed to be? My mom got dark blue and the mother of my FH got cream. Is that weird?

Re: Mother of Bride/Groom Dress Color?
I have no clue on this, my mom said unless she goes on a diet, black is the color for her!
FH Mom..no idea...not really sure...I think she said like a green color...but for your FH mom to have cream, to me, is kinda close to having white...in my opinion, only the bride should be in that color!!!! Do you mean cream as in an off white?

Re: Mother of Bride/Groom Dress Color?
IMO, as long as they look good in their dresses nothing will seem weird.

Re: Mother of Bride/Groom Dress Color?
I haven't seen FH's mom's cream dress yet, but my first thought was that cream is sort of close to, well, white. I feel like a brat, but, what do you guys think?

Not strange at all ! My mother wore a light cafe color and DH's mother wore black. The photos came out gorgeous!

I think that would bother me a little too. You're not a brat.

Re: Mother of Bride/Groom Dress Color?
My mom wants a dress that will complement my bridesmaid's dresses, most likely go with a chocolate color..But those colors are not weird at all..How's that saying go for mother of groom..'SHow up, shut up and wear beige'

Re: Mother of Bride/Groom Dress Color?
'Technically' they are supposed to coordinte with the BP. But anything that makes them comfortable and look their best is all that should matter. I'm not sure about the cream color, though. I would probably be a little uncomfortable with that, too.Heidi

Re: Mother of Bride/Groom Dress Color?
Well my mother bought her dress first and it is called Cafe.. Kind of a creamish/goldish color. Very nice.. But FH's mom went after my mom and she bought it from the same store. FH's mom bought a dress in Eggplant. And she told the salesperson that my mother bought her dress there too. So the salesperson showed her what my moms dress looks like and the color so this way she would not get anything similar in color or design... That was good thinking!!! And in my opinion the only person who should be able to wear a lighter color such as a cream, etc... should be the mother of the bride.. I think that is the only person it is acceptable for.

Re: Mother of Bride/Groom Dress Color?
My FMIL is wearing black and my mom, we don't know yet...she hasn't gotten it yet. My mom can get any color she wants (within reason and not white
) and feels comfortable in.I'm not going to make my mom or FMIL coordinate w/the bridal party.

Re: Mother of Bride/Groom Dress Color?
I do not think it matters what colors. Although I've seen on here that the MOG should wait until the MOBride gets her dress, and finds out what color and not to 'outdo' her. IE: if your mom gets blue, then FH's mother should not get blue.I think your mom's are fine with what they got

Re: Mother of Bride/Groom Dress Color?
Maybe the cream color is alot darker than ivory or white? My mom's dress is a sand color which is darker then ivory. I loved it. She is not taking away from my dress. Maybe, once you see the dress you might feel better.

Re: Mother of Bride/Groom Dress Color?
I don't think they have to be in certain colors. My FMIL got navy and my mom is still looking but is leaning towards one dress that was silver/grey.

Re: Mother of Bride/Groom Dress Color?
My FMIL wore off-white to my FBIL's wedding and I'm pretty sure she wanted to wear it again. I told her straight out - no, too close, sorry. I think your best bet is to be direct - nope, you can't wear white and nope, that off-white is way to close to white lady. Now she's wearing a silverish color outfit.
