Dress shopping-any last minute tips??

My advice is go by yourself. Once you have found the dress that you really love stop shopping. Then go back a few days later with 1 or 2 people that you trust to be completely honest with you about the dress. If you still love it after that then order it. By doing it this way, you will elimate a huge amount of stress. No arguments from well meaning family, future in-laws or friends. That is what I did and it made the shopping fun instead of stressful. Happy hunting!

Good luck

Dress shopping-any last minute tips??

Best advice I can give you is to try EVERYTHING on. Even if a dress doesn't look like your style on a hanger, it just might be "the one." Try differnet fabrics and styles. All fabrics lay differently and styles you would never pick may be the most flattering. Oh- And, wedding dresses DO NOT have seasons. You can wear any style you like in any season.

Hope this helps a little!!! HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!

Good luck

Great advice!

Definately try everything on - all styles. More often then not, what you like in the mags is not what you like on you. After a while, you'll get an idea on which cuts and colors (white, ivory, rum pink) look good on you. I tried on at least 30 different gowns before deciding on mine (at 4 different stores).

They will have a slip for you and sample shoes if needed (not really nded though). Wear a strapless bra, stockings if possible & comfy clothes (cause you'll be getting in an out of them alot).

Be sure to ask about caps on alterations and bustles (reg and french).

Check out www.bridalgown.com (with no "s" at the end) It's by the couple that wrote the Bridal Bargains book and they have very detailed info on all the manufactures, including info on who has a good reputation, or poor one, for quality, delivering on time, sizing mistakes, etc.

If you've got some designers in mind that you like, you can check them out before you go shopping, or check into them after you find some you like. It might help you narrow your choices and make a decision.

Be sure to ask about caps on alterations and bustles (reg and french).

Dress shopping-any last minute tips??

I agree with most of what's posted above except the go alone part. Take someone with you that you trust. I'm very close to my mother and I took her and my aunt. They liked and loved dresses that I knew were not "it". But when you put on the "one", you know it, your mother has tears in her eyes. It really happened that way with me. And it was one of the most special moments of my life. I think it would have been so sad to find my dress and have no one to share it with. My father passed away several years before the wedding, but if he was still here, I would've brought him too. I can only imagine the look in his eyes when I put on that dress!

Of course if you have people in your life that will make you crazy, don't brnig them. Just my thoughts.

Be sure to ask about caps on alterations and bustles (reg and french).

I have to agree with what Dorothy says too. I'm shopping alone and it feels like something is missing.

My mother is in Arizona and I'm planning to narrow down my choices, then she'll come into town to help me make the final decision.

If you have someone who you can trust to be honest and pushing their opinions on you, take them along. Besides, the dresses can be heavy and if the shop is more self-serve rather than providing help, you'll need someone!!!

Dress shopping-any last minute tips??

Thanks all for the advice. I am going with my matron of honor - I am so looking forward to spending this day together too, as part of the whole experience. My MOH will be great, she has always been a supportive without being overbearing kind of person in my life and that seems like a great person with whom to go dress shopping. Also she is getting married 2 months before me so she just went through the dress shopping experience as well. You have all given some great ideas/advice so far and I will have a little checklist. I like to be prepared when it comes to large & important purchases :-)

Hi another suggestion - Bring a clip to put your hair up. I did that and you get a much better picture of the neckline etc with your hair up (especially if you plan on wearing it up that day) Bring a bottle of water too - You get parched trying them on. I knew it was the right dress (the first one I tried on although I did try others just to make sure) because my mom, MOH and my moms Best friend all had tears in their eyes. You will also have a bounce in your step when you put "the dress" on. Good Luck!!!

Dress shopping-any last minute tips??

if you decide to try more places, you should try the Bridal Building in Manhattan, everything in one building (Dresses for everyone !) and I heard they are direct from the MFR so the prices are a bit cheaper than retail ! (Bridalbuilding.com). I am going this Saturday w/ mom, my Jr.Bridesmaid and her mom...I agree that you should keep the people that come to a minimum.....Im going w/ my bridesmaids and MOH separate, and my flowergirls separate...My twin sister is my matron of honor, she actually picked out what i think is "the dress" last weekend, we were WOWED when i tried it on......but i just like to shop around, its an anal thing i have !!! and PS i TOTALLY Agree that you will buy a style that you never thought you would want for yourself, the one i LOVED is spaghetti strap, (tight on top) and puffi organza on the bottom, kinda Cinderella-ish !! I would never have tried it on and when i did, my mom, sis and me all FROZE !!! I just wanna price the same dress at the bridal building......i'll keep you all posted !!!

Bridal Bargins Book

Great idea! Their book was my bible throughout my wedding process - and I loved their analysis on the designers....so important.

Its important to find the dress you love - but even more important to know the co you're ordering it from is going to deliver a good product on schedule!

Good luck. They are fabulous!!!!!
